Young Mafia POV: Woke Up As A Mafia Heir In A Game
Chapter 27: The Overlord’s Tooth
Lorenzo Pov :
After leaving the SCBD office, I finally had some time to myself.
Well, not much time.
At best, I could rest for a day or two before the academy results arrived. Once that happened, my brief period of peace would be over, and I’d have to deal with whatever came next.
Honestly, after everything that had happened today, I wanted nothing more than to lie in bed and forget the world existed.
The terrorist attack, Sofia’s frightened expression, and the interrogation at the SCBD had left me with plenty to think about.
The worst part was that I couldn’t even say the interrogation had gone particularly badly.
Elena Ward was certainly a troublesome woman. She had questioned me as though I were some criminal mastermind instead of someone who had been caught in a terrorist attack.
Granted, I hadn’t exactly made things easy for her.
I had killed their leader, refused to show any remorse, and practically challenged her to arrest me.
Still, what was I supposed to do? Apologize for protecting my fiancée?
I wasn’t going to pretend I regretted killing those bastards.
Anyways....for now, I needed rest.
At least, that was the plan.
Ding!
An alarm suddenly rang from my smartphone.
I frowned and picked it up, expecting a message or perhaps a notification from the academy about results of entrance exams.
Instead, the screen displayed something unexpected.
\[Achievement Unlocked!\]
"...Huh?"
I blinked.
An achievement?
For a moment, I wondered whether I had accidentally opened one of the games installed on my phone. However, before I could investigate, the notification automatically redirected me to a familiar-looking interface.
It resembled the achievement menu from the game [City Of Overlords].
\[Achievement (N)\]
A list appeared beneath the heading.
Most of the entries were marked with question marks, as though their names and descriptions were still hidden.
Among them, however, one entry stood out.
\[Impossible Feat (N)\]
I tapped it.
Nothing happened.
I tried again, but the interface remained unchanged.
"...Seriously?"
I stared at the screen.
Was this another one of those ridiculous system functions that refused to explain itself?
After a moment, I noticed the small letter beside the achievement’s name.
N.
I had no idea what it meant, but I suspected it might be some kind of notification marker. I pressed the achievement again, hoping to get rid of it.
Ding!
The screen flashed.
\[Achievement Unlocked!\]
\[You have accomplished an impossible feat at such a young age!\]
\[Your name is beginning to spread among mafia gangs, villain organizations, and even local thugs!\]
\[You have earned a special reward!\]
\[A new trait, ’Rogue Charmer,’ has been granted!\]
"...Oh, no."
I stared at the notification.
Then I stared at it some more, hoping the words would somehow change.
They didn’t.
Another trait? Seriously?
I was already having enough trouble dealing with \[Perfectionist\]. That trait had a nasty habit of pushing me toward unreasonable standards, and I was still figuring out how to keep it from controlling my decisions.
And now I have one new trait.
I rubbed my forehead and exited the achievement window before opening my status information.
There was no reason to check my full status. I only wanted to confirm that the new trait had actually been added.
The familiar interface appeared.
\[Name: Lorenzo Riina\]
\[Gender: Male\]
\[Occupation: Heir to the Underworld\]
\[Bloodline: Locked\]
\[Traits: Perfectionist, Rogue Charmer\]
I stared at the new entry.
So it was real.
The trait had been added to my status, and there didn’t seem to be any way to remove it.
With a sigh, I tapped its name.
\[Rogue Charmer: Your charm increases in proportion to your notoriety.\]
I read the description twice.
Then a third time.
"...What?"
My charm increased with my notoriety?
I leaned back against the headboard, staring at the screen as I tried to make sense of it.
I had played the game before transmigrating into this world, but I had never encountered a trait like this.
Not \[Rogue Charmer\], at least.
There had been plenty of traits related to combat, intelligence, physical ability, and even social interactions. But something that directly linked a person’s charm to their notoriety?
That was new.
And considering the circumstances in which I had obtained it, I could make a pretty good guess about what had triggered the achievement.
The terrorist attack.
More specifically, what I had done to the terrorists.
The SCBD might have been busy investigating the incident, but that didn’t mean the news would remain confined to their department.
There had been dozens of hostages at Appetite of Heavens. Some had witnessed me killing the terrorists, and others had seen what happened to their leader.
Even if the authorities kept certain details confidential, rumors would spread eventually.
And given my surname, those rumors would probably travel much farther than I wanted.
So the more notorious I become, the more charming I get?
On the one hand, increased charm could be useful. People were generally more willing to cooperate with someone they found attractive or likable, and that could prove valuable in a world where connections mattered almost as much as strength.
’At least, this trait is useful.’
I closed the phone and put it back on my pocket and looked towards the distant sky that was beginning to go dark by the time I was out of SCBD office.
"Lorenzo!"
I turned towards the source of voice, and there he was Aldric Riina, My father.
He was waiving at me from inside his car while he smokes his cigar
’Wasn’t he was in spirit realm fighting Sword Saint, Dreck Storms, Overlord of Sword Domain?’
I didn’t waste time as I crossed the parking lot and slid into the passenger seat without a word. Aldric then pulled out into the street.
A few minutes passed in silence before he finally spoke.
"They didn’t do anything illegal in there, did they?"
"Not really. Just asked some random questions."
"Hmm... I see."
That was the end of the conversation and the rest of the ride passed in heavy silence.
I eventually broke it myself, I was too curious to keep my shut.
"... Father Is the old geezer is dead?"
He then stairs at me and suddenly brust into laughter.
".... hahaha!!! Him? Dead? It’s not that easy to kill that old man even if he has become an antique piece and besides we were not even fighting seriously! If we did, there would be aapocalypse situation right about now."
He paused for a moment and added with grin.
"But still, we did fight, fist fight, old school. He was so pissed at me when he lost me to rock-paper- scissors game and had fight hand to hand instead of swords and I even managed to broke his one tooth!"
To show me the proof, he took out an broken tooth from his pocket and handed it over to me.
I couldn’t help but sweat drop at his causel manner as he summarise his fight with an [SS] rank Overlord just like that.
"...You seriously broke his tooth?"
"Of course." Aldric took another puff of his cigar, looking rather pleased with himself. "Do you think I’d lie about something like that?"
"No, I just think you’re insane."
"Hahaha! That’s my boy!"
He laughed as though I’d just complimented him.
I felt a vein twitch in my forehead.
What the hell is wrong with this family?
I had just survived a terrorist attack, nearly lost control of myself, and spent hours dealing with the SCBD. Meanwhile, my father had apparently spent his afternoon playing rock-paper-scissors with one of the strongest beings in the world before getting into a fistfight with him.
And he was proud of it.
Actually, considering that he had returned alive and was casually smoking a cigar, I supposed I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Still...
"Father, you do realize Dreck Storms is an Overlord, right? The Sword Saint? The man who rules over the Sword Domain?"
"Yes?"
"And you decided to fist fight with him through rock-paper-scissors?"
"Naturally."
"..."
"What’s with that expression?" Aldric asked, glancing at me. "You should be happy. Your father defeated a Sword Saint in a fistfight."
"Didn’t you just say you weren’t fighting seriously?"
"That’s right."
"Then how exactly did you defeat him?"
Aldric’s grin widened.
"By breaking his tooth."
"That’s not what I—"
"Hahaha! You should have seen his face, Lorenzo! The old geezer looked as though someone had insulted his entire swordsmanship!"
He tapped the steering wheel with one hand, clearly enjoying the memory.
"Imagine that. Dreck Storms, the great Sword Saint, losing a tooth in a fistfight. If only I’d brought a camera."
I pressed my fingers against my temples.
This man is one of the four Overlords in the world.
For some reason, that fact became increasingly difficult to believe whenever he opened his mouth.
Normally, he would be all time serious. But after releasing his stress through fist-fight he was in great mood.
Still, there was something I couldn’t ignore.
I looked at the tooth again.
A very expensive tooth, perhaps.
’I wondered whether there were collectors who would pay a fortune for something like this.’
Then I immediately dismissed the thought.
Why am I even considering that?
"By the way, Father."
"Hmm?"
"Why did you come to pick me up?"
Aldric glanced at me.
"What kind of question is that? You’re my son. Of course I’d come to pick you up."
"...You could have sent Salvatore."
"Salvatore is busy."
"Doing what?"
"Making sure that whoever dared to attacked my son would found out soon enough, very soon."
There was dark edge on his voice.
I stared at him.
Aldric took the cigar from his mouth and exhaled a thin stream of smoke through the slightly open window.
"Salvatore informed me everything as soon as I returned back to earth, He also told me that you’d gone to the SCBD voluntarily. Seriously, I didn’t expect you to go voluntarily."
His voice remained light, but his eyes had sharpened.
"I wanted to come sooner, but that old bastard wouldn’t let me leave."
Well, what can you expect him to do?
Dreck knows that if Aldric Riina would have reached the Appetite Of Heaven in furious mood, who knows what could have happened there.
That’s why he even accepted the request of the world government chairman to stop the Don Aldric Riina and forced fully dragged him into spirit realm.
So, that he could occupied him there for time being.
