Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Shopping at the Supermarket

The rain had stopped, and with nothing much to do, they realized there were a lot of things they needed to restock now that they were back at Azure Heights.

The refrigerator was empty, and they also needed to buy essentials like toiletries for the child.

Adrian Grant suggested they all go to the supermarket together.

The happiest one of all was Ryan Grant, who cheered, "Yay! I get to go to the supermarket with Mommy and Daddy!"

Caroline Whitman just shot Adrian Grant a surprised glance. "Why aren’t you having your secretary buy everything this time?"

Adrian Grant replied with a straight face, "My secretary needs to handle work-related matters. I rarely ask him to run personal errands. Since we all have time right now, there’s no harm in going ourselves."

Caroline said, "I guess you’re not worried about paparazzi anymore."

’Back when they first met, this guy had drawn up a ridiculously long and detailed agreement.’

’And that very agreement was sitting in her study right now.’

Adrian Grant seemed to understand the look in her eyes. He calmly uttered four words: "What’s done is done."

Caroline Whitman was speechless.

’What a "what’s done is done." ’

’It had come to this. What else could she say?’

They had traveled together and even gone to a shopping mall together, but the trip was outside of Kingsport, and for the mall, he had used his "superpower" of money to book the entire venue.

This was the first time they were going to a crowded place like a supermarket together.

Adrian Grant’s distinguished aura and impressive physique alone were enough to attract a ton of attention and a flurry of camera phones.

’If he showed his face, all hell would break loose.’

Caroline Whitman couldn’t even imagine the scene.

But regardless, and whether the public knew about their child or not, whenever she went out with the father and son, she would disguise herself thoroughly to avoid becoming a topic of heated discussion online.

Of course, after becoming a trending topic twice recently, Caroline had become even more protective of Ryan’s privacy.

She made sure to disguise him with a mask before they went out, only feeling at ease once his little face was hidden from view.

But she soon realized she had been overthinking it.

’Nobody told me the Grant Group owned a supermarket this huge!’

’No wonder Adrian had been so calm.’

Caroline Whitman and Adrian Grant pushed the shopping cart side by side, with the child sitting inside, babbling away.

She secretly observed Ryan’s reaction to their surroundings. He didn’t seem to find anything novel about it.

So she asked tentatively, "Sweetie, have you been here before?"

Ryan turned around, an unopened toy in his hands. "Of course! You and Daddy used to bring me here all the time to buy yummy treats."

"The yummy-smelling cakes are just up ahead."

The little guy even pointed toward the corner up ahead where the cake section was, as if to prove his memory was correct.

Adrian Grant was surprised, but his expression remained impassive.

Caroline had never been here before. As she and Adrian pushed the cart forward and rounded the corner, she saw that there was indeed a cake counter.

They both found it incredible. If this child really was from a parallel universe, for details like their family background and where they lived to be identical was just too much of a coincidence.

As they verified Ryan’s words one by one, it seemed more and more likely that he was from the future.

Then again, their timeline and the child’s were separated by several years. It was strange that the store’s layout hadn’t changed at all in all that time.

Just as she had that thought, Ryan crooked a confused finger. "Huh? Why are the cakes over here? Did they move?"

Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Where was it before?"

"A little farther ahead."

They both looked in the direction he was pointing. It was only about ten meters away. Well, that’s not much of a difference, she thought. It’s still in the same general area.

They didn’t need to buy much. After getting some groceries to fill the refrigerator and some daily necessities for Adrian and the child, there was basically nothing left on their list.

Even though this was a Grant Group supermarket and they had restricted public access, the store was already pretty empty this early in the morning.

Even so, Caroline was still on edge, worried she might run into someone she knew.

This feeling of insecurity probably stemmed from the constant state of anxiety and secrecy they’d been living in, a habit they hadn’t yet managed to break.

Fortunately, they didn’t run into anyone they knew.

’It made sense, though,’ she thought. ’They had taken time off work to be here with their son. If they ran into any of their peers at the supermarket at a time like this, she’d just have to accept her bad luck.’

Only when they returned home did she finally feel a sense of relief.

After lunch, once Ryan was down for his afternoon nap, the two of them returned to the study to deal with work.

The study wasn’t large, but it wasn’t small either—more than enough space for one person to work comfortably.

For two people, however, it felt a bit cramped.

Then again, as Caroline looked at the two of them sitting side by side, she thought they looked just like coworkers at adjacent desks in an office.

She subconsciously turned her head to look at the man beside her.

Adrian was focused on his computer screen.

She had to admit, when he was serious, the expression in his eyes softened, giving him a cool, self-possessed look. He exuded a cold, ascetic air that warned strangers to keep their distance.

’No wonder CEOs needed their own private offices. With a face and an aura like that in a public workspace, who could possibly concentrate on their work?’

Caroline’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly composed herself, pulled her gaze away, and forced herself to focus.

At first, the only sounds were the clicking of their keyboards and the scrolling of a mouse.

After a while, Adrian started frequently making and taking calls.

Caroline could tolerate it at first. But when Adrian had to join an online meeting around one or two in the afternoon, she simply shot him a cool glance, closed her laptop, and left the study.

When she emerged after a nap, Ryan was awake, and Adrian was still in the study.

She played with Ryan for a while, and by the time they were done, it was already 3:00 PM. Adrian was *still* in the study.

He hadn’t come out, but he did give her a call.

Caroline stared at the incoming call, her gaze drifting subconsciously toward the shoe rack by the door.

’If Adrian’s shoes weren’t still there, she would have thought he’d left the house.’

Caroline answered the call. Adrian’s voice came through immediately. "Do you have a blank notebook?"

She replied, "It should be in the drawer. Have a look. If you can’t find it, check the bookshelf."

"Okay," Adrian replied before hanging up.

Putting down her phone, Caroline went back to reading a story to Ryan.

Ryan listened with great interest, his eyes on the picture book.

Suddenly, the story stopped.

The little boy tilted his head up in confusion. "Mommy, why’d you stop?"

"You look at the pictures for a minute. Mommy just remembered something she needs to do."

With that, Caroline rushed to the study.

Sure enough, she saw Adrian holding a picture frame.

Even though they had officially become a couple, the sight of Adrian—the very subject of the photo—looking at it...

A wave of intense embarrassment instantly washed over Caroline.
