Chapter 52: Left in the Dirt

"Hahaha!" Ethan Mercer suddenly burst into laughter. "Zach, you’re finished!"

Victoria Sterling had arrived.

Seeing him injured, she would definitely kill Zach, or bankrupt his family and make him wish he were dead!

Ethan really didn’t want to ask Victoria for help. Going to meet Victoria meant that he would be locked up by her again. But if he kept getting hit, he would die. He had finally been given a second chance at life; he couldn’t die. He also wanted to be with Amelia and become the richest man in the country.

He just needed to make sure Victoria didn’t see his face. Although Victoria was cold-blooded and ruthless, she was only kind to him. Victoria would definitely save him.

A look of confusion appeared on Zach’s face. Has Ethan lost his mind because of their beating?

"Get out of my way!"

Ethan struggled to break free from Zach and his heavy-handed group, stumbling wildly as he bolted toward the car where Victoria sat. Heart pounding, he threw himself into its path, spreading his arms wide to block her escape. A wave of cold panic suddenly hit him—what if she recognized him, bound him, and locked him in that miserable cage just like in his past life? Instinct took over. He hastily shoved his hands over his face, shielding his features from her view through the windshield. Breathing heavily behind his trembling fingers, Ethan stood trembling in the middle of the road, willing his disguise to hold while waiting for her reaction. Every second stretched into eternity as the hum of the engine echoed the thumping in his chest, leaving him trapped between terror and desperation.

Squeak—!

The driver immediately slammed on the brakes.Tires shrieked against the pavement in a deafening, metallic pitch as the driver slammed on the emergency brakes. Who was this lunatic? Did he have a death wish, standing in the middle of the road while nervously masking his face like a criminal with a guilty conscience? Inside the car, the sudden stop caused the air to thicken with tension, leaving Ethan completely motionless,covering his face with fingers as he waited for Victoria’s next move. The bumper stopped a mere five centimeters away from bumping into Ethan.

If Victoria weren’t in the car, the driver would have definitely jumped out and started cursing.

When Zach saw someone approaching—especially in a luxury car—he didn’t dare to go forward and simply stood aside to see how it played out. If this person helped Ethan, he would leave; if not, well... Zach looked at Ethan with a cold glint in his eyes. He hated these tattletales the most. He wouldn’t let Ethan off easily.

The driver got out of the car and said coldly, "What are you still doing here? Get out of here right now! If you’re here to stage an accident, then let me tell you, you’ve come to the wrong person."

"Save me!" Ethan said in a trembling voice. "Take me away quickly, or I’ll die! Also, call those shadow guards and teach them a lesson!"

"Get out of the way," the driver said coldly again. "If you don’t move, don’t blame me for being impolite."

"Ask Victoria Sterling," Ethan said hurriedly. "She will definitely save me!"

The driver’s brows furrowed tightly. Does this person know their lady? Just to be on the safe side, the driver walked back to the rear passenger door and knocked gently on the window.

Victoria rolled down the car window. "What is it?" she asked in a cold tone.

The driver respectfully said, "Miss, he knows your name and says he knows you."

Victoria glanced indifferently at Ethan, who was still covering his face with his hand. "I don’t know him." Victoria calmly withdrew her gaze.

"Yes, Miss, I understand."

The driver walked back to the front of the car with a cold, stern expression.

Ethan asked impatiently, "So? Did Victoria tell you to save me?"

But don’t think that just because Victoria saved him, he will be grateful, Ethan thought bitterly. In his previous life, he was tormented by Victoria for so long. Saving him was what Victoria should do! This is what she owed him!

The driver sneered, "Save you?"

"Get out! Get out of here right now!" The driver pointed firmly to the side of the road.

Ethan’s eyes widened. How dare he insult him?! He recognized the driver—in his previous life, this driver had always treated him with the utmost respect!

Ethan was furious. "Who gave you the right to talk to me like that? Do you believe I’ll get Victoria to fire you?!"

The driver looked at him like he was a total idiot. Where did this lunatic come from? Anyone who didn’t know better would think he was President Sterling’s man!

The driver sneered and said, "It was our young lady who told me to kick you out. She said she didn’t know you."

Ethan was completely taken aback. He shook his head frantically.

"Impossible... how could Victoria do this to me?" Ethan muttered to himself. In the past, whenever he was injured, Victoria was always extremely worried. Even though he was beaten so badly today, Victoria remained totally unmoved!

Ethan accidentally glanced in the direction of Zach. He saw Zach and his group smoking cigarettes, staring at him with fierce, predatory eyes.

Ethan’s body trembled. No. He absolutely had to get Victoria to save him! Otherwise, Zach would never let him go.

Ethan gritted his teeth. Victoria didn’t help him just now probably because she didn’t see his face. As long as Victoria saw his face, she would definitely help him!

Ethan gritted his teeth and rushed forward directly to the rear window.

"Victoria! Victoria, it’s me, Ethan Mercer! Please save me, and teach these people a lesson!"

Victoria’s gaze fell on Ethan through the glass, her eyes completely calm and unwavering.

When Ethan saw Victoria’s face, he was instantly reminded of his past life. His heart was pounding wildly with tension. Is Victoria going to drag him back to the estate again? He would never have exposed himself to Victoria if it weren’t for the urgent need to save his life!

"Victoria, did you hear me? Go and teach them a lesson!" Ethan’s voice carried an automatic, commanding tone.

Victoria frowned.

Two hidden shadow guards instantly materialized from the shadows behind the vehicle, standing right behind Ethan.

Victoria coldly ordered, "Take him away."

Delaying her from finding julian was suicidal. Just thinking about wasting time here made Victoria feel a chill run down her spine.

"Also, teach him a lesson," Victoria added, looking at Ethan as if he were a piece of trash.

Ethan’s eyes widened, his face filled with absolute disbelief.

Victoria actually didn’t help him! She even ordered her people to teach him a lesson! How could she do this to him?!

"Yes, Miss."

The two shadow guards immediately grabbed Ethan and dragged him to the side of the alley.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Ethan was relentlessly punched and kicked by them.

Victoria didn’t look at Ethan ever again. Aside from Julian, no other man was worth her attention for a single second.

"Drive," Victoria instructed.

"Yes, Miss."

Victoria’s luxury car smoothly accelerated and drove away down the alley.

"Pfft—!" Ethan spat out a mouthful of blood onto the pavement.

One of the shadow guards stepped down hard on Ethan’s back, pinning Ethan flat to the ground.

Ethan watched Victoria’s car disappear around the corner, his eyes filled with endless, stunned disbelief. It was completely unbelievable that Victoria not only refused to help him, but also had him beaten up!

In his previous life, Victoria had always doted on him endlessly! In his past life, he burned down her Rose Manor, killed her beloved big white cat, and leaked confidential commercial secrets of the Sterling Group—yet Victoria didn’t do a single thing to harm him, and couldn’t even bear to scold him!

Everything had changed!

The shadow guard pressed down hard on Ethan’s ankles, pinning him firmly to the dirty asphalt.

"Remember," the shadow guard said coldly. "Don’t stop cars you shouldn’t stop in the future. If there’s a next time, it won’t just be a beating. Also, don’t think about calling the police, or we’ll let you experience what it means to disappear into thin air."

The shadow guard withdrew his foot. In an instant, both guards vanished into the night shadows.

Ethan gritted his bloody teeth, his eyes burning with hatred. "You all just wait..."

He’ll teach them a lesson sooner or later! How dare they treat him like this? They’re really asking for trouble!

As soon as the two shadow guards left, Zach stepped out from the shadows once again, leading his men forward with wicked grins on their faces.
