Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back
Chapter 445: It’s Nothing, We’re Friends
Chapter 445: Chapter 445: It’s Nothing, We’re Friends
Tanya Sinclair had a very long dream.
She was trapped in a narrow and long alley.
The sky was somber, the alley seemed endless.
She did not know how long she had walked when a figure appeared ahead, clad in black, with black hair, tall and thin, his pace slow.
Tanya Sinclair almost burst into tears the instant she saw him.
"Declan!"
She knew it was him.
The man slightly tilted his head but did not turn back.
She desperately chased after him, he was clearly right in front of her, yet she couldn’t reach him no matter what.
"Declan—" she cried out his name pleadingly, "Don’t go, I beg you!"
But one call after another, until her voice became hoarse, still the man never turned back...
Inside the hospital room, all was silent.
Felix Kendall gently pushed open the door and walked in, pulling a chair to sit by the bedside, watching over the slumbering Tanya Sinclair.
The dark circles under his eyes were evident. He had only gone out once, to deal with the aftermath of a fallen police officer.
He even contributed a part of the compensation out of his own pocket.
This case had escalated to this stage, which was beyond his expectations.
Something happened during the extradition, resulting in a fatality; regardless, he had to bear this responsibility.
Felix Kendall pinched the bridge of his nose in fatigue.
He leaned back against the chair, his eyes resting on the woman lying in bed.
It seemed that ever since they returned from Pyralis, he hadn’t had a good look at her.
She was still thin and frail, with pale skin and faint lips, with a hint of illness about her; she had been unwell ever since Declan "died."
"Tanya Sinclair." Felix Kendall leaned forward slightly, reaching out, wanting to touch her face, but in the end, restrained himself and drew back.
His phone vibrated at this moment, and Felix Kendall took it out and glanced at it—it was an unfamiliar number.
He guessed who it was, walked to the window to answer.
"How is she?" The man’s deep, hoarse voice came through, accompanied by a cough he tried hard to suppress.
"You saved her, you should know; she’s fine." Felix Kendall’s tone was flat, bordering on indifference.
Declan Pierce wanted to say something, but first coughed with a hoarse voice.
"I’m leaving today, and I’ll never appear again."
He had come this once just to see her, that was enough.
Felix Kendall frowned slightly, "Declan..."
Before he could finish, the other party had already hung up.
Felix Kendall took a deep breath, put away his phone, and returned to the bedside,
Tanya Sinclair was still in a deep sleep, eyes tightly shut, brow furrowed so tightly it formed a deep crease, as if caught in a nightmare.
Felix Kendall watched her silently for a while, unable to hold back, he reached out and gently rubbed her furrowed brow with his thumb.
When her brow relaxed, and he was about to withdraw his hand, Tanya Sinclair suddenly reached out and grasped his fingers.
She held on tightly, her knuckles blanched with pressure.
Felix Kendall paused.
He heard Tanya Sinclair murmur in her sleep, pleading, "Don’t go... I beg you..."
"..." Felix Kendall’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and he reversed his grip on her feverish hand.
His palm was large enough to envelop her entire hand.
But in the next second, he heard her call another name.
"Declan..."
Very softly, with a hint of sobbing, as if cried to the point of exhaustion, the last lingering note.
Felix Kendall’s thumb froze on the back of her hand, not moving.
He watched Tanya Sinclair’s sleeping face, a glint of moisture at the corner of her eye, not falling, hanging at the roots of her eyelashes.
After a long while, Felix Kendall slowly withdrew his hand and tucked her hand back under the covers.
He leaned back into the chair, turning his head to look out the window.
The sky had not yet fully brightened.
When Tanya Sinclair woke, the day was bright.
She gradually opened her eyes, her vision going from blurry to clear, her head slightly tilted, seeing Felix Kendall sitting by her bed, the chair small, his figure tall, sitting quite uncomfortably.
Being from a special forces background, Felix Kendall, despite having been napping with his eyes closed, became alert the moment Tanya Sinclair’s gaze met him.
He met her eyes, which were flecked with the red of insufficient rest.
"Awake? Do you feel any discomfort?"
Tanya Sinclair gently shook her head, "Did you...sit with me all night?"
Felix Kendall didn’t say anything, he stood up and stretched his stiff neck, walked to the window, pulling the curtain open a little. Sunlight streamed in, casting over the white sheets of the hospital bed, somewhat dazzling.
"That person in the room..." Tanya Sinclair spoke, her dry lips pressing together, not continuing, but her eyes shone with anticipation.
Felix Kendall turned around, looking at her.
"I’ve checked." He calmly gave her the prepared answer, "He’s someone from the village, no parents. When working outside, the factory caught fire, his face and throat were burned. After returning, he lived alone, not fond of interacting with people. The town rumors are just unfounded guesses."
Tanya Sinclair listened, saying nothing.
Felix Kendall added lightly, "If you don’t believe it, you can check it yourself."
He believed she would find only the information he provided.
"..."
Tanya Sinclair lowered her eyes, her fingers marking the blanket.
After a moment’s silence, she softly said, "I misidentified."
Felix Kendall looked at her, his gaze showing a flash of reluctance: "Hungry? I’ll get some food."
"No need." Tanya Sinclair lifted her head, "How is Buddy?"
Just then, there was a knock on the hospital room door.
Mrs. Crawford poked her head in with a bag of fruit.
"Ms. Sinclair, you’re awake?"
She came in, followed by Buddy, head hanging low.
Buddy entered and saw Tanya Sinclair lying in bed, his mouth quivering before he started crying.
"Ms. Sinclair, I’m sorry...it’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have run out..."
His crying was comical, pitiful yet endearing, and Tanya Sinclair couldn’t help but smile, reaching out to stroke his head, soothing him softly.
"It’s not your fault. As long as you’re safe, but you must promise me, no matter what happens, never leave home without saying a word again."
"He won’t dare!" Mrs. Crawford gave Buddy a light kick, "Ms. Sinclair, he really caused trouble for you and the police."
Felix Kendall watched, arms crossed from the side.
Mrs. Crawford’s eyes fell on him, unable to hold back her curiosity: "And who might this be?"
"A friend of mine," Tanya Sinclair said.
She knew Felix Kendall had a delicate identity.
But Mrs. Crawford misinterpreted her haste, giving a knowing wink with an ambiguous tone, "A friend! It’s good to have a friend, I won’t disturb you then, Buddy and I will head back. Ms. Sinclair, get some good rest!"
"No, Mrs. Crawford, not that kind of friend." Tanya Sinclair hurriedly explained.
Mrs. Crawford left with a smile, pulling Buddy along, clearly thinking she understood.
Tanya Sinclair looked at Felix Kendall in resignation, "People in town are a bit gossipy."
Felix Kendall raised an eyebrow noncommittally, a playful curve forming at the corner of his mouth.
"It’s alright, friends, after all."
Tanya Sinclair: "..."
She felt there was a deeper meaning in his words.
