Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back
Chapter 438: Oh, It’s Declan Pierce!
Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Oh, It’s Declan Pierce!
The breath that Tanya Sinclair had drawn in suddenly relaxed, and she suddenly felt a bit ridiculous.
How could that person possibly be Declan Pierce?
In this world, there was no longer a Declan Pierce.
This was something long confirmed, yet this realization rushed back and still caused a stabbing pain in Tanya Sinclair’s heart.
The pain wasn’t fatal or sharp, just like a dull knife slicing through flesh, continuously, with no end in sight.
Tanya Sinclair closed her eyes, and the cold mountain wind pierced through her, cooling down her boiling blood.
The adrenaline that had spiked earlier had masked the pain, and now, she finally felt it.
Especially her knee, it burned with pain. She rolled up her pant leg and saw a large area of skin and flesh scraped raw, bending the knee pulled at the wound painfully. Her palm also hurt, a patch of skin was scraped off.
Supporting her leg, she slowly made her way down the mountain and reached the foot, considering whether to call Leo Rhodes. But upon taking out her phone, she didn’t want to disturb him on his rare day off, so she put it back.
By the time Tanya Sinclair walked back to the dormitory, it was already dark.
She simply rinsed the wound, rummaged through the cabinet for medicine, and only then discovered that the iodine tincture was long gone and there was no gauze. She wrapped her knee with a clean towel.
The health office was a bit far from where she lived, but Tanya Sinclair called Leo Rhodes.
"Mr. Rhodes, do you have any iodine tincture and gauze? I took a fall on my way back and am worried about the wound getting infected."
"I have some at home," Leo Rhodes quickly said, "I’ll bring it over to you now."
"No need," Tanya Sinclair immediately said, "Tomorrow morning is fine. I’m about to rest now."
Even though it was late spring, the evenings still got dark early, and the streetlights from Leo Rhodes’ home to the school were out again. Tanya Sinclair felt it was too much trouble for him to make a special trip by bike just for her.
Leo Rhodes heard her polite refusal and didn’t insist, "Alright then, don’t walk around, just lie down more."
"Okay, thank you."
"No problem." Leo Rhodes waved and left.
Tanya Sinclair ate a little something, lay in bed reading for a while, and soon felt sleepy. After lying down, each time she turned over and touched the wound, she woke up; her leg and hand hurt, and she slept fitfully all night.
The next day, she woke up early, opened the door, and saw a plastic bag placed on the ground right at her door. She was slightly taken aback and picked it up to open it. Inside, besides the iodine tincture and gauze she needed, there were various sprays and ointments for swelling and abrasions.
She assumed it was from Leo Rhodes but hadn’t expected him to be so thorough, preparing all the medicines.
He had promised to bring her medicine last night and must have come over early this morning.
Tanya Sinclair felt slightly embarrassed; giving money seemed too formal, treating him like a delivery person. She thought of treating him to lunch.
She applied the medicine on her knee, wrapped it with clean gauze, cooked a simple breakfast of noodles and eggs, and after eating, she checked the time and went to the office.
She had just sat down when Leo Rhodes stormed in a whirlwind.
He was carrying a small bag and placed it on her desk.
"Here, iodine tincture and gauze," Leo Rhodes said, "it’s just what was left at home, not much, but enough for the next few days."
Tanya Sinclair was utterly dumbfounded.
"What is it?" Leo Rhodes asked, noticing something off in her expression, "Isn’t this what you asked for last night? Did I bring the wrong thing?"
"No." Tanya Sinclair gently shook her head, "When I opened the door this morning, I found medicine and gauze at my door. I thought you left it there."
Leo Rhodes scratched his head, confused, "No, I just brought this over now."
Then that was strange. If not Leo Rhodes, then who could it be? The principal and other teachers didn’t even know she had fallen.
Suddenly, Tanya Sinclair trembled all over, remembering the dark figure she had seen in the mountains.
"Maybe it was some student who left it." Leo Rhodes, not noticing her pale face, speculated. "Ms. Sinclair, you’re so kind to the kids. They know it in their hearts. Maybe one of them saw you fall and secretly put the medicine at your door."
Tanya Sinclair didn’t respond. She suddenly stood up.
"Mr. Rhodes, can you cover for me during morning reading? I need to go back quickly!"
Without waiting for Leo Rhodes to answer, she hurried out.
Leo Rhodes called after her, "Hey, Ms. Sinclair, take it easy!"
He had never seen Tanya Sinclair look so flustered and anxious.
Ever since Tanya Sinclair arrived, from the first moment he saw her, he felt she was enveloped in a layer of mist. Clearly, she always appeared gentle and smiling, but Leo Rhodes felt she was far removed from everyone, hiding her emotions deeply...
But now, she was so distraught...
What could make her this anxious?
Or rather, who could make her display such genuine emotion?
Suddenly, a face emerged in Leo Rhodes’ mind, her fiancé’s face, which he had only seen in the photograph she brought.
A man so beautiful it could be described as enchanting... so beautiful it was almost too much.
What was his name again?
Leo Rhodes furrowed his brow, trying hard to remember.
"Oh!" he recalled the man’s name, "It’s Declan Pierce..."
On the other side, Tanya Sinclair almost sprinted home, eager to check the surveillance footage.
Desperate to confirm, it wasn’t just a dream!
Perhaps... perhaps he really was still alive!
After all, Declan Pierce had lived through two lifetimes; maybe a miracle could really happen!
Tanya Sinclair felt her heart pounding in her throat.
She arrived at the door and found the lock had already been opened; someone was inside!
Through the window, she could see a man’s silhouette; the glass covered with art paper obscured the details, showing only a shadowy outline.
The man inside was tall and thin.
Tanya Sinclair’s eyes instantly filled with tears. She pressed her hand over her racing heart and with the other hand, trembling, slowly pushed open the door...
