Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 603 Caught Jason Summers
"I’ll ask the servants if there’s anything left from breakfast. I’ll have someone run tests on it," Miles Mercer immediately arranged.
Xavier Mercer was busy with other matters and hadn’t been staying with them much. For the past two days, it had only been the three of them staying there. If it was food poisoning, they all should have eaten the food and been poisoned as well. However, news came from the villa that all the unfinished breakfast had been thrown away. There were no leftovers, which made things troublesome.
It was unlikely that someone in the villa had poisoned the food. The servants they hired had all passed rigorous background checks.
The old man was still in the hospital room. Ivy Sherwood and the others went in together. Their grandfather hadn’t woken up yet, and everyone else stayed by his side.
"Ivy, take a seat for a while." Nina Scott pulled over a chair.
"Thanks, Nina. Why don’t you go ahead if you have things to do? My brother and I are here, so you don’t need to worry."
"I don’t have anything going on anyway. I’ll stay here and keep watch too."
Fortunately, their grandfather woke up not long after, though the ordeal had nearly scared them to death.
The doctors said he still needed observation. Miles and Xavier stayed at the hospital, but by the next day, the old man’s condition seemed to have worsened. The cause was still unknown, and he was transferred to the intensive care unit.
"If it really is poisoning, then brother, you, Nina, and Grandpa all ate the same things. Why don’t you both get checked too?" Ivy suggested.
Miles agreed and pulled Nina along to get examined. At first, Nina claimed she was perfectly fine and energetic, so there shouldn’t be any issues. However, the checkup actually revealed a problem.
Both Nina and Miles’s blood contained the same substance found in the old man’s blood. However, perhaps due to his old age, the old man’s condition was much more severe in comparison. Their current symptoms were still relatively mild; it only showed up as slight abnormalities on their medical reports, and they hadn’t physically felt anything yet.
If it hadn’t been for the old man’s situation, they wouldn’t have proactively gotten checked. By the time they noticed any physical anomalies, it might have been too late.
"Damn it! To think we were played so easily!" Miles was furious.
"You’re both poisoned, so it must be an issue with the food. Check the staff at home right now," Ivy said.
But they were a step too late. The servant responsible for cooking had already quietly fled yesterday. It wouldn’t have been too hard to track her down, but by the time they found her, the servant was already dead.
"Dead?" Ivy furrowed her brows tightly. This was too sudden.
Nobody would believe it wasn’t orchestrated by someone behind the scenes. As for who could have poisoned their food, although there was no concrete evidence yet, Ivy already had an answer in her heart.
Jason Summers!
It had to be Jason Summers!
The servant’s death was undoubtedly Jason tying up loose ends.
Ivy said, "If Jason contacted her, there must be clues left behind. If it was poison, she must have had the toxin on her. If we can get ahold of it for testing, we might be able to develop an antidote based on its composition."
Their grandfather’s condition was becoming increasingly dangerous. The doctors said they were out of options, having never encountered such a situation before; they could only do their best to keep him alive. Even after forming a global panel of experts to discuss the old man’s condition, there were no positive results.
They quickly found evidence among the servant’s belongings: a record of her communications with Jason Summers. He had used her family to threaten her.
After Quentin Blackwood learned about this, he quickly took Ivy for a checkup. He only breathed a sigh of relief when the results showed she was unharmed. Fortunately, most of what Ivy ate was personally cooked by him. If he didn’t have the time, he would have people from Norhaven deliver the food. The people at Norhaven were all individuals Quentin had helped. Most of them owed him a debt of gratitude, so they wouldn’t betray him easily.
"Jason is definitely leaving a way out for himself by doing this. He must have the antidote, but he’ll have conditions for handing it over. We haven’t found him yet, but since he’s cast his net, I’m sure he’ll show up soon," Quentin said calmly.
His guess was spot-on. As expected, Jason stopped hiding and showed up openly at the airport. Moreover, his flight’s destination was Lustre.
From the moment the flight took off, Quentin’s men tailed Jason all the way to Lustre. After getting off the plane, Jason strutted around with a swagger, seeming entirely unafraid. However, Quentin’s men brought him directly to the Mercer family’s home.
Miles wasn’t an impulsive person; he was usually very calm. But if anyone dared to hurt his family, he would risk his life to fight them. Right now, Jason was trampling all over his bottom line.
Miles went straight up and landed two fierce punches on Jason. "How dare you murder my aunt! What did she ever do to you?!"
Still furious after the initial strikes, Miles delivered a few more blows. "My grandfather is so old, and you still laid a hand on him! Jason Summers, are you even human?! Don’t you feel ashamed of the righteous name your parents gave you?!"
If it weren’t for the fact that Jason was the only one who might have the antidote, Miles would have beaten him to death.
Jason’s mouth was bloody. He wiped it and looked at the Mercer family. Since all pretenses were dropped, there was no need for him to keep acting.
"Watching a bunch of self-proclaimed geniuses being led by the nose gives me quite a sense of accomplishment."
Jason could still smile. His gaze landed on Ivy, but in the next second, his view was blocked by a tall figure.
This Quentin Blackwood really was a nuisance.
"Since we’re all smart people here, let’s stop beating around the bush. Hand over the antidote, or the people here will make the rest of your life a living hell."
When looking at such scum, Quentin’s eyes were completely devoid of warmth. A person like Jason didn’t deserve to live in this world. Yet, unfortunately, human trash like Jason had so many tricks up his sleeve and would always find countless ways out for himself.
Jason burst into laughter. "I don’t really care, but I’m afraid that old man can’t afford to wait."
"You... you’re at death’s door and you’re still acting so smug!" Miles was truly enraged. He had been so respectful to Jason before, but it turned out everything Jason presented was just a facade. It was sickening.
Jason said, "I do have the antidote, but I want to talk to Ivy alone."
In other words, his target had always been Ivy.
"Impossible!" The three men practically spoke in unison.
Did Jason even deserve to speak with Ivy alone right now? Who knew what kind of schemes someone like him was plotting? Jason kept claiming he loved their aunt, yet he had brutally murdered her. Even if Ivy were his biological daughter, he probably wouldn’t hesitate to kill her, too.
"Then we have nothing to talk about. If you kill me and let the Mercer family’s old man be buried with me, it’d still be worth it." Jason maintained a nonchalant attitude. He was still acting so high and mighty, making their teeth itch with hatred. "Besides, you’re the ones begging me right now, not the other way around."
