Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 444: Why Are All the Hateful Women Named Something Yuan?

  • Next Chapter

Nina Scott was busy, so when she saw an incoming video call from Mrs. Scott, she really didn’t want to pick up.

After a moment’s hesitation, however, she answered. "What is it?"

She knew the entire Scott family had gone abroad for vacation. Except for her brother, not a single person had invited her, as if they had forgotten she even existed.

Seth Scott had invited her, but she wasn’t about to make things awkward for herself. If she spent the holidays with them, no one would have a good time.

The Scotts probably knew this as well, so they never invited Nina Scott during the holidays, and Nina never went looking for trouble.

"What took you so long to answer the phone?" Mrs. Scott’s tone was full of displeasure.

"What is it you want?"

"That boyfriend of yours is cheating! I caught him red-handed, and he still won’t admit it!"

"What boyfriend?" Nina Scott didn’t immediately register what she was saying.

The moment she processed it, Nina Scott’s eyes widened in shock. Her mother’s words terrified her. "What?"

Mrs. Scott aimed the camera directly at Miles Mercer and Ivy Sherwood. "See for yourself. I caught them red-handed."

When Nina Scott saw Ivy Sherwood and Miles Mercer, she nearly passed out on the spot.

’How can the world be this small? Of all people, they had to run into each other.’

"You’ve got the wrong person. He’s not my boyfriend," Nina Scott denied.

"How could I be mistaken? You said so yourself last time."

"When I say he isn’t, he isn’t! Leave those people alone. My boyfriend is right here beside me, so stop your baseless accusations!"

Yara Scott, standing nearby, was secretly amused. ’Nina’s words are obviously just a flustered denial. Her boyfriend definitely cheated on her. Nina is nowhere near as beautiful as this woman... but why do this woman’s eyes look so much like Ivy Sherwood’s?’

"Did you hear her? I’m not her boyfriend. You should apologize for your behavior, but I’ll let it slide, given your age," Miles Mercer said coldly.

’But he didn’t finish his sentence. The unspoken part was that he was only letting it slide because she was the mother of his little sister’s good friend.’

Mrs. Scott grew furious. ’There’s no way I’m mistaken!’

"What do you mean, ’given my age’? You’re the one who’s cheating, and you won’t even admit it! Today, I’m going to expose you for who you really are! Everyone, come look! This shameless man is messing around behind my daughter’s back!" Mrs. Scott began to cause a scene, immediately drawing a crowd.

Miles Mercer’s expression darkened. ’What is wrong with this family? I’m just traveling with my own sister. We haven’t bothered a soul, have we?’

’Women really are nothing but trouble, young or old.’

"Ma’am, this is my brother. How is being with one’s own flesh-and-blood brother considered cheating? If your eyesight is failing, I can help you find an optometrist. But if you’re just trying to cause a scene, I’m calling the police." Ivy Sherwood didn’t like this woman either.

’She ignores her own daughter but dotes on an adopted one.’

Ivy Sherwood’s words were a statement of fact, intended to clear up any misunderstanding about Miles Mercer.

Overhearing the commotion, Seth Scott thought he recognized his mother’s voice, and Ivy Sherwood’s. He rushed over and saw that it was, indeed, his mom.

"Mom, what’s wrong?" As Seth Scott approached, he saw that it really was Ivy Sherwood.

"Ivy?" A fire lit up in Seth Scott’s eyes. "What are you doing here?"

Mrs. Scott saw Seth Scott’s reaction and asked, "You two know each other?"

"Yes, she’s a friend of mine. I never expected to see you here. What a coincidence." Seth Scott walked over to Ivy Sherwood’s side before turning to his mother. "Mom, what’s going on? Has there been some kind of misunderstanding?"

The look in Seth Scott’s eyes as he gazed at Ivy Sherwood irked Yara Scott, who was standing nearby, filling her with a sense of foreboding.

’When did Seth meet such a beautiful woman? How did I not know?’

’And what did Seth just call her? Ivy?’

’Why do all the women I can’t stand have to be named Ivy?’

"I saw him with Nina before. He’s her boyfriend. And today he’s out with *this* woman! No matter what you say, Nina is still part of the Scott Family. What he’s doing is an affront to us all!" Mrs. Scott’s tone was as harsh as ever.

At the mention of Nina’s boyfriend, Seth Scott took another look at the man. He had indeed seen him before, back at the resort.

’But when did he become Nina’s boyfriend? Since when does Nina even have a boyfriend?’

"Mom, you’re mistaken. They’re brother and sister," Seth Scott explained.

Hearing Seth Scott say this, Mrs. Scott was finally surprised. "They’re really brother and sister?"

"Yes, really."

The crowd of onlookers began to disperse, some muttering insults at Mrs. Scott under their breath for making such ugly accusations without getting her facts straight.

"Is everything clear now?" Miles Mercer was truly exasperated.

"Mom, hurry up and apologize to them," Seth Scott urged, pulling at her arm.

"I will not apologize." Mrs. Scott remained haughty. ’Why would I ever apologize?’

’The Scott Family is renowned in Lustre. Now that Seth is shouldering the family business, we’ve reached new heights, nearly second only to the Blackwood Family.’

’The Blackwood Family seems to be in a precarious situation at the moment. Soon, our Scott Family might even become the top powerhouse in Lustre.’

"Fine by me. I don’t need your apology anyway. Sis, let’s go." Miles Mercer had no desire to get tangled up with these people any longer.

"Ivy, wait." Seth Scott wanted to chase after them.

’He’d finally had a chance to see Ivy. If he let her go now, he had no idea when he’d see her again.’

’And with Quentin Blackwood nowhere in sight, he had so much he wanted to tell her.’

"Brother!" Yara Scott grabbed Seth’s arm, stopping him from going after them.

She was in love with Seth but didn’t dare confess it. She hated seeing him look at other women, and it was obvious this particular woman was special to him.

"Let’s go, Brother."

Held back, Seth Scott could only watch helplessly as Ivy Sherwood walked away.

...

Miles Mercer had a car waiting for them just outside the airport. Once they were inside, Ivy propped her chin on her hand and stared at him.

Miles Mercer said, "What’s with that expression?"

"Bro, you’re Nina’s boyfriend? Since when? How did I not know about this?"

"It’s all that woman’s fault for spouting nonsense. If she hadn’t made up that ridiculous story last time, none of this would have happened today."

"So what really happened? C’mon, tell me," Ivy said, her curiosity piqued.

Miles then gave her a brief rundown of the events. After listening, Ivy couldn’t help but think that her brother and Nina were destined for each other.

"Bro, why don’t you like women? Do you have some past trauma or something?" Ivy asked.

Miles Mercer would never admit that ever since he was a teenager, women had been trying to climb into his bed, and one had even nearly forced herself on him.

"No."

"If you won’t tell me, I’ll just ask our eldest brother. He definitely knows."

"Don’t. It’s nothing major. It’s just... women are so annoying. They use their supposed ’weaker sex’ status to their advantage, doing all sorts of repulsive things just to get close to you and take what they can."
