Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 442: The King’s Shock at Seeing Ivy Sherwood

  • Next Chapter

For the past two days, Moira Kensington had been taking Ivy Sherwood out to have fun. Ivy was having a great time, but for some reason, she wanted to go back.

Although it was wonderful being with her family, she wanted to return to Calypsos.

Ivy Sherwood had originally planned to stay a few more days to get everything sorted out for the new branch store, but after thinking it over, she decided to just have Edie arrange for someone to handle it.

Ivy Sherwood told Xavier Mercer what she was thinking. Xavier was silent for a moment. "Is it uncomfortable here? Are you not used to it? If you want, I can have someone replace your bed. I’ll have them buy you anything you want."

Ivy Sherwood said, "No, it’s not that. I was just thinking about the work I need to take care of."

"What work? I’ll handle it for you."

"It’s alright."

Xavier Mercer said, "Are you going back for that man?"

"How could you think that? My wanting to go back has nothing to do with him." ’Maybe it’s just because I grew up in Calypsos,’ she thought.

’In fact, she had completely forgotten about Quentin Blackwood these past few days.’

’She absolutely hadn’t thought of him. Not even once!’

"Alright, I’ll make the arrangements."

"But... what about Grandfather..." Ivy worried he would be upset.

"Don’t worry, I’ll talk to Grandfather. But Ivy, I’m not comfortable with you going back alone right now. I’ll have Miles go with you."

"Is that really necessary? I’m not a child anymore."

"If you don’t let Miles go with you, then you can just stay here until our whole family can go back with you."

Ivy made her choice instantly. "I’ll go with Miles, then!"

"In that case, I’ll go pick out some gifts for my friends this afternoon. I’ll go with Moira."

That afternoon, Ivy Sherwood went shopping with Moira Kensington again. They picked out quite a few things together. Ivy bought a lot of gifts for Nina Scott to make up for not being with her for the New Year.

After they finished at the mall, they went to a restaurant to eat. Moira Kensington said it was a very famous restaurant, a favorite spot for many influential figures in politics and business. Ordinary people couldn’t even get a reservation.

They went in together. Ivy Sherwood said she was going to the restroom first and told Moira Kensington to go ahead.

When Ivy Sherwood came out of the restroom and was about to head to their private room, she saw someone.

’Isn’t that the King of Elandra? Ovillette.’

They had met before, in a way, so Ivy Sherwood offered a greeting. "Mr. Ovillette."

’Only after speaking did she realize she’d been wearing makeup last time. This time, he was seeing her real face. So many days had passed, and a king has countless matters to attend to. How could he possibly remember her?’

Just then, one of Ovillette’s bodyguards noticed her. "Who are you?"

"I..."

Before Ivy Sherwood could explain, she saw the King staring intently at her, his eyes wide.

"You..." The King looked like he wanted to say something, but he didn’t know what.

’That face... so familiar. Where had he seen it before? His head throbbed. It felt like something was trying to break free, like countless fleeting, ungraspable images were flashing before his eyes.’

His head felt like it was about to explode, and just like that, the King collapsed.

"King! Your Majesty!" The bodyguards panicked and rushed the King to a private hospital.

Ivy Sherwood was completely baffled. She had no idea what had just happened. Why did the King suddenly faint?

’It had nothing to do with her. She hadn’t done a thing.’

"Seize her!" one of them shouted, and they moved to grab Ivy Sherwood.

After all, the King had collapsed right after seeing this woman. She was the prime suspect.

"What are you doing?" Moira Kensington shouted, seeing them try to lay a hand on Ivy Sherwood.

"Miss Kensington." The King’s bodyguard recognized her.

Her family was part of Elandra’s aristocracy and held considerable influence.

"She’s my friend. What happened?"

The bodyguard explained what had happened. Moira Kensington stated flatly, "She’s with me. How could the King’s collapse have anything to do with her? If something has truly happened to the King, and you have confirmed her involvement, you can take her away only after you’ve produced concrete evidence."

"We naturally trust a friend of Miss Kensington’s, but we can’t take any chances when it comes to the King."

"Of course, I understand that. Don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere."

After negotiating with them, Moira Kensington led Ivy Sherwood back to their private room.

Moira Kensington said, "I have no idea why the King was eating here today. He must have fainted from his crushing workload. What does that have to do with us?"

Ivy also shook her head. "I don’t know. Don’t tell me I’ve stumbled into some conspiracy and I’m being set up as the scapegoat."

"That won’t happen. You need to have faith in the Kensington and Mercer families. Relax and eat."

Despite Moira Kensington’s reassurances, Ivy was still a little worried.

’The King’s expression had clearly changed when he saw her. Or was she just overthinking it?’

After finishing their meal, Moira Kensington and Ivy Sherwood went back.

Ivy also told Xavier Mercer what had happened. He looked into it and soon had an update. "The King is fine now. He just fainted. It was probably due to exhaustion from being too busy lately."

"That’s good." Ivy breathed a sigh of relief. If something had really happened to the King, she could have been in a lot of trouble.

"Don’t worry. I already spoke with Grandfather. He said that since you like Calypsos so much, you should go back."

"Thank you so much, Grandfather."

That night, as Ivy lay in bed, she couldn’t stop thinking about the King’s reaction earlier.

’Still, it was good that the King was alright. She could finally breathe a little easier.’

...

At the private hospital, the Princess rushed over the moment she heard the King had fainted.

"What on earth happened? Why did he suddenly faint?" the Princess asked anxiously.

The bodyguards and the doctor explained the situation. The Princess asked for more details, and a bodyguard recounted what had happened.

When she heard the King had fainted right after seeing someone, the Princess asked urgently, "Who was it he saw?"

The bodyguard described her. "A friend of Miss Kensington’s. Quite beautiful."

The Princess’s heart clenched. "Pull up the security footage. I want to see."

’The Princess worried that the person the King had seen was that girl, Ivy Sherwood. After all, her eyes were so much like *that woman’s*.’

The bodyguard said, "Your Highness, perhaps we should wait until the King has woken up and given his permission before we retrieve the footage."

’The Princess knew that everything concerning Ovillette was confidential. Not even she could view it without his consent.’

Before long, Ovillette woke up. He still had a splitting headache. The face he’d seen today surfaced in his mind. ’Where on earth had he seen it before? Why couldn’t he remember at all?’

’And whenever he thought of that face, his head throbbed painfully, and he couldn’t grasp a single clear thought.’

The Princess immediately came to his side. "Darling, you’re awake! How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable anywhere? I heard you fainted right after seeing someone. What happened?"

Although the Princess’s tone was one of anxiety and concern, a careful listener would have noticed it was laced with something else.
