Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 394: The Other Half of the Ashes Were Returned to Ivy Sherwood
"Where’s Caleb Blackwood?" Xavier Mercer asked, entering with a dark expression.
"Our master is not in," the butler said, blocking Xavier Mercer’s path.
"Then when will he be back? We can wait. Or have Sylvia Blackwood come out." When Xavier Mercer’s expression turned cold, his aura was terrifying.
The butler looked at the menacing group and had no choice but to say, "M... Miss Blackwood isn’t here either. Mr. Mercer, perhaps you should all leave for now. I’ll call you after the master and miss return. They likely won’t be back for some time."
Just then, however, Anna Nash came downstairs. "Isn’t Sylvia in her room? I just saw her a moment ago. Are you looking for Sylvia? Butler, hurry up and get her. Tell her that her brothers are here."
Anna Nash was doing it on purpose. She loved watching a good drama and wasn’t afraid to stir the pot.
Having seen Sylvia Blackwood’s eyes after her plastic surgery, and witnessing the recent string of actions from Caleb and Sylvia Blackwood, she knew exactly what they were scheming.
For Anna Nash, it was a chance to take down an opponent. Besides, the Blackwood Family looked down on her. She’d like to see how they could continue to look down on her after this.
The butler was speechless.
"If she’s home, then go and get her." Xavier Mercer had already led the others inside and had even taken a seat on the sofa.
He crossed his long legs, his presence commanding.
The once-spacious room suddenly felt crowded with so many people.
Not daring to even breathe too loudly, the butler had no choice but to go upstairs to get Sylvia Blackwood.
Meanwhile, Anna Nash slowly descended the stairs, something in her hand. "Hello, brothers. I’m a friend of Ivy Sherwood’s."
She had been planning to go on a trip and had already made it to the airport. But then Ivy Sherwood called her to ask about Sylvia Blackwood, and Anna knew some drama was about to unfold. So, she canceled her trip and came straight back.
Anna Nash said, "I haven’t seen Ivy Sherwood in a long time. There’s something I’ve been meaning to give her but never got the chance. If you see her, brothers, could you please pass it along for me?"
With that, Anna Nash handed the item over.
It was a glass vial containing a fine powder.
"What is this?" Xavier Mercer asked.
Anna Nash replied, "These are the ashes of Ivy Sherwood’s mother."
"What?" Xavier Mercer and Connor Mercer were both stunned. ’These are our aunt’s ashes?’
Anna Nash continued, "Previously, to threaten Ivy Sherwood into marrying Silas Blackwood, Caleb Blackwood dug up her mother’s grave. I’m the one who got the ashes from him for Ivy. But I was afraid she’d come after me when she went against the Blackwood Family, so I only gave her half. Please, give this half to Ivy for me. And please, tell her I’m sorry."
As she spoke, the rims of Anna Nash’s eyes began to redden, and she put on the air of a victim.
’I’m a smart woman. I’ve already figured out most of it. If I return the ashes to Ivy now, I might be able to save myself.’
Xavier Mercer gripped the vial tightly, yet he didn’t dare to squeeze too hard, terrified it might shatter.
They had long been mentally prepared for the possibility that their aunt was no longer alive.
But to have the relative they had searched for for so many years turn out to be nothing more than a vial of ashes... the pain was still unbearable.
Xavier Mercer’s eyes were bloodshot. He stared intently at the vial. ’These are our aunt’s ashes.’
’And Caleb Blackwood... to think he’d actually dug up their aunt’s grave and taken her ashes!’
’How could they ever forgive such a monster!’
Xavier Mercer and Connor Mercer both clenched their fists, the veins on the backs of their hands trembling with rage.
Upstairs, the butler knocked on the door to Sylvia Blackwood’s room.
"Miss, the Mercers are downstairs. They say they want to see you."
Sylvia Blackwood, who was too scared to leave her room, snapped, "Didn’t I tell you to say I wasn’t here?!"
She had peeked from the stairwell just now and seen them. ’So many people from the Mercer Family... it’s obvious something is wrong.’
’And Dad isn’t even here. I have no idea how to handle this. If they find out I’m a fake, that I’m not a Mercer at all, they’ll never let me go.’
"But the Young Madam just went downstairs and told the Mercers you were up here."
"That damn bitch!" Sylvia Blackwood clenched her fists. ’That Anna Nash deserves to die!’
No matter what, Sylvia Blackwood refused to go downstairs. Soon, another servant came up. "Miss, Mr. Mercer says that if you don’t come down, he doesn’t mind bringing his men up here himself. He said he means no harm, he just wants to do another test with you."
The servants were all trembling in fear. When titans clash, it’s the mortals who suffer, and they were just ordinary people who could easily get caught in the crossfire.
"I’m not going down! I’m just not going down!" The servant’s words only made Sylvia Blackwood even more terrified to leave.
Soon enough, however, the Mercer Family’s bodyguards came straight upstairs. They were holding a key to her room—provided by Anna Nash, of course.
"What do you think you’re doing? This is the Blackwood estate!" the butler cried out when he saw them, trying to remind them of their place.
"As long as Miss Blackwood comes out, we won’t make things difficult. Otherwise..." The bodyguards were tall and imposing, clearly not people to be trifled with.
The servants naturally tried to protect the Blackwoods, but soon, the butler and the others were all dragged away by the bodyguards.
They used the key to open the door. Inside, Sylvia Blackwood panicked. "What are you doing? This is my room!"
"Let me go! All of you, let me go! I’m going to tell my father! I’m calling the police!"
But no matter how much of a scene she made, Sylvia Blackwood was no match for them. Soon, she was being dragged down the stairs.
Her eyes were filled with terror. Looking at them now, Xavier Mercer found them utterly repulsive.
’They can’t even compare to Ivy’s. Ivy may have an ordinary face, but her eyes are so expressive and bright, as if they could speak. Sylvia’s eyes, on the other hand, are completely lifeless. The difference is obvious at a glance.’
"I thought you weren’t here," Xavier Mercer said, his voice bone-chillingly cold.
When his gaze fell upon Sylvia Blackwood, her legs nearly gave out, almost causing her to collapse to her knees.
Watching the drama from the sidelines, Anna Nash was incredibly satisfied to see this battleground unfold.
"Brother, I was sleeping. I didn’t know you were here! They’re hurting me... Brother, what are you doing?"
"Don’t call me ’brother.’ You know perfectly well whether I’m your brother or not," Xavier Mercer said, his voice cold and merciless. "As for the truth, I imagine we’ll have our answer very soon."
He waved his hand, and his men moved forward. One grabbed Sylvia Blackwood while another began to draw her blood.
Sylvia Blackwood struggled. "No, don’t..."
But her struggles were futile. They quickly collected the sample.
A blood test was the most accurate method. The technicians were their own people, flown in from Elandra.
If Sylvia Blackwood turned out to be their sister, they would, of course, apologize and make amends. But if she wasn’t... then the person who deceived the Mercer Family had best not expect them to show any mercy.
"How long will it take?" Xavier Mercer asked.
"Eldest Young Master, we’ll expedite it. It should take a little over half an hour."
"Fine." Xavier Mercer nodded.
’The results would be ready in half an hour, but they already knew the truth in their hearts.’
’Sylvia Blackwood was definitely not their sister. Ivy Sherwood was.’
It all felt like fate. Just like that reunion dinner—in the end, they hadn’t shared it with Sylvia Blackwood, but with Ivy Sherwood.
And they had missed their chance to connect with Ivy so many times before.
