Chapter 748, The Death of the Frost Dragon King
Chapter 748, The Death of the Frost Dragon King
Translator: Silavin
After regaining the freedom to move, Lu Fan finally departed from the Secret Realm and emerged into the outside world.
Upon returning, Lu Fan discovered that the Secret Realm Transport Arrays that had previously manifested had all closed with his departure, presenting themselves in a sealed state.
Simultaneously, the Ice Crystal Coffin upon the Frost Dragon King carcass now bore countless cracks across its surface, appearing as though it would shatter at the slightest touch.
Lu Fan understood that having passed the Seven Trials, he could now claim the Frost Dragon King’s inheritance.
He summoned out his Bone Wings and ascended into the air. Merely brushing against the ice covering the Frost Dragon King carcass. Without applying any force, the ice instantly crumbled, thundering as it cascaded downward.
Subsequently, these ice fragments emanated milky-white radiance before dissolving entirely. Soon, only the Frost Dragon King carcass remained, lifelike in appearance yet utterly devoid of vitality.
Confronted by such an immense carcass, Lu Fan found himself momentarily perplexed.
Though he had successfully completed the Seven Trials and theoretically possessed the qualifications to claim the Frost Dragon King’s Reward, the precise nature of this Reward remained unclear to him.
Even now, when he directed his Appraisal toward the Frost Dragon King carcass, it revealed no indication of being an item suitable for storage within his Inventory, nor was it a Pet that could be Tamed through Dragon Taming.
[So, what is my Reward? How can I claim it?]
Just as Lu Fan wrestled with mounting confusion, a brilliant azure aura suddenly manifested across the Frost Dragon King carcass.
The luminous halo then rose from the carcass, resembling much like the creature’s Soul departing its earthly vessel.
The Frost Dragon King’s ‘soul’ continued radiating gentle illumination, appearing genuinely alive once more. Lu Fan then perceived an unfamiliar consciousness emerging within his mind.
This voice was not truly auditory but communicated through spiritual vibration, identical to other Giant Dragons’ method of communicating with Lu Fan.
“Trial participant, congratulations on passing my Seven Trials.” This opening statement confirmed beyond doubt that the consciousness within Lu Fan’s mind belonged to the Frost Dragon King.
“First, allow me to introduce myself. I am the Frost Dragon King from the Dragon Domain, called Winter Calamity. Once, I governed the Dragon Domain’s Dragon Snow Mountain Secret Realm, where my fearsome reputation resonated throughout the realm.”
“As for why I died and came to perish in such a desolate location, that constitutes a lengthy tale.”
“Originally, I should have preserved a visual record, allowing you to witness firsthand what transpired within my Dragon Snow Mountain. Unfortunately, my injuries proved too severe; I lacked sufficient strength to reconstruct everything I had witnessed. I can only explain that three hundred years ago, within Dragon Snow Mountain, a Transport Array was opened, whereupon countless strange Monsters poured into my territory.”
“They resembled putrid mud, reeking of decay and possessing extremely potent infectious properties. Wherever they passed, the pure white snow of the mountains transformed into sludge. Moreover, this sludge was somehow imbued with new life. It could combine and merge at will, forming increasingly powerful Monsters.”
“When I discovered their arrival, these entities had already occupied a third of my entire Dragon Snow Mountain. They had assembled themselves into an extraordinarily robust Giant Dragon. Though merely a mass of putrid mud shaped into a Dragon, their power was no less formidable than my own. I battled this creature for an entire year. Throughout that period, neither of us could definitively overcome the other. Tragically, while engaged in combat, the corruption emanating from its form continuously tainted my territory.”
“Eventually, as it grew stronger, I gradually found myself outmatched. It inflicted severe wounds upon me, forcing me to tear through space itself and flee from the Dragon Domain to this location, where I ultimately succumbed to my injuries.”
“I understood that the vile entity coveted my body. Therefore, I sealed myself within this Ice Crystal Coffin to sever its perception and ensure it could never locate me. Thus, its corrupting influence could never contaminate my body. Even in death, I wished to perish as a true Dragon King should, buried within Heaven and Earth, allowing time to erode my physical form and transform it into a Secret Realm that would endure for eternity.”
“I would rather anything else than become a mass of putrid sludge and merge with the existence which claimed my own home.”
Upon hearing this account, Lu Fan’s shock became unmistakably evident.
Even without witnessing the actual events, the description alone enabled him to deduce that the entity which had invaded Dragon Snow Mountain must surely be identical to, or at minimum, be the same type of being as the one that had destroyed the Valley of Life.
It was truly unexpected that this entity had not only invaded the Valley of Life but had also devoured Dragon Snow Mountain three centuries prior, claiming the Frost Dragon King’s life in the process!
If even the Frost Dragon King proved no match for this adversary, it was no wonder that hundreds of Giant Dragons within the Valley of Life had been consumed by it…
Lu Fan genuinely desired extended discourse with the Frost Dragon King to obtain more information.
Unfortunately, he recognised that while the Frost Dragon King appeared to be conversing with him, this represented merely a fragment of consciousness the Frost Dragon King had preserved, intended solely to explain these events to successful trial participants.
He could establish no genuine communication with the Frost Dragon King. He could only passively receive whatever information the Frost Dragon King chose to impart.
The Frost Dragon King’s voice continued its steady narrative. “What manner of existence that entity truly represents remains unclear to me, though I harbour certain hypotheses. After all, to possess such bizarre capabilities that even I could not match them, they could only belong to one of the Ancient Gods.”
Indeed, the Frost Dragon King’s speculation aligned perfectly with Lu Fan’s own assessment. The adversary was almost certainly an Ancient God!
The Frost Dragon King continued. “During our battle, I managed to sever a portion of its form, which I preserved in ice for research purposes to determine its identity. This severed section remains in my possession, located beneath my body. Once my carcass dissolves, search carefully and you shall discover it.”
“Remember this well: this is an extraordinarily terrifying existence. Should it be permitted to spread across any Map, it will inevitably devour that entire Territory. It is the bringer of catastrophic extinction for every living being.”
“Your success in passing my Seven Trials demonstrates that you possess sufficient capability. As the saying goes: with greater ability comes greater responsibility. I hope you will not disregard what I have revealed to you.”
“Remember: harbour no false hopes. Regardless of your identity, what manner of being you are, or upon which Map you reside in, that entity will eventually come for you, consuming everything in its path. Defeating it remains your sole method of salvation!”
