The origin Law entity was still.

Not the patient stillness of the weight entity waiting for accumulated substance to do its work, not the continuous-application stillness of the erosion entity. The origin Law's stillness at the stage above established was something different in character from either of those, the specific quality of something that had located its own beginning and was fully expressed at that location rather than moving away from it.

The entity was at its own origin.

He stood at engagement range and let the identification function complete its picture.

The origin Law at the stage above established was operating through the premise at a depth where the beginning it had located was not a point in time but a point in the Law's own expression. The fullest version of the organizing principle, the most complete statement of what it was, accessed not through development forward but through return to the initial purity of the principle before any expression had complicated or extended it.

The entity's strength was its clarity.

It had located something fundamental and was expressing it without the accumulated complexity that development forward tended to introduce. Where the recursion entity had used patterns across scales and the becoming entity had engaged developmental direction, the origin entity was expressing a single thing with absolute precision.

Precision, he had learned, was harder to address than complexity.

He thought about the Law of Slaughter's own relationship to origin.

The Law of Slaughter's origin was the moment of identification. Not the removal. The identification that preceded and made the removal possible. The first instant in which the obstacle was completely seen was the origin point of every expression of the Law, the most fundamental moment in its sequence, the beginning from which everything else followed.

The origin entity's precision found the established depth's boundary the way the becoming entity had found the approaching threshold. Both entities had oriented to what was most fundamental in his current state. The becoming entity had found the direction. The origin entity found the source.

The Law of Slaughter's origin.

The moment of identification. The first complete seeing. The prerequisite of every removal.

He held the origin entity's precision-contact and expressed through the identification function at the clearest he had ever expressed it, the Observer and the Slaughter Sovereign operating together in the complete integration the chamber had built and the seven high-density engagements had settled and the deeper interior's engagements had developed further.

The contact was the most complete expression of the Law's origin point he had produced.

He did not feel the pre-emergence state from the becoming engagement. He felt something different. Not the Law reaching toward the stage above established the way the becoming entity had pulled it toward its developmental destination. The Law reaching toward its own source, the identification function finding the most fundamental moment of itself, the origin point of the organizing principle that the origin Law entity was built around.

The two Laws were, at their deepest accessible expression, oriented toward the same moment from different directions. The origin Law organized around the beginning as the fullest state. The Law of Slaughter's identification function operated from the beginning as the prerequisite of everything else.

The contact produced a resonance he had not encountered since the chamber.

Not the chamber's resonance between multiple Laws at depth finding correspondences in his foundational Law. This was a resonance between his own Law at two points simultaneously: the established depth's current expression and the origin point of the Law's principle itself, the resonance between where he was and where the Law had begun.

The five-second charge of Final Cut built inside that resonance.

He released it.

The origin entity received the contact with the same satisfied quality the becoming entity had received its engagement's conclusion. The Law of origin finding in the Final Cut's release the genuine beginning of the Law of Slaughter, the identification at its source, the removal following from the seeing the way it always had and always would.

The entity withdrew.

The notification arrived and he looked at it before reading it, waiting the one beat that significant notifications sometimes warranted.

He sat with that for a moment.

Not as a weapon statistic. As what it meant in the context of the path. At foundational the penetration property was present but moderate, the Ninth Gate had confirmed that. At developed it had become significant. At established it had become substantial. At Sovereign depth it was absolute.

Absolute removal.

Not absolute in the sense of unstoppable against any conceivable resistance, the word carried a different meaning at this depth. Absolute in the sense of complete, the removal function of the Law expressing without the partial character that lower depths produced, the obstacle engaged not partially removed but removed in the way the Law itself was now complete.

Lei Bao did not speak.

He was present through the blade in the way he was always present, the crackling there, the warmth of the Thunder Spirit active and steady. But he did not speak and Lin Yi understood why.

Some thresholds were held in silence first.

He held this one in silence.

The deeper interior continued its vast self-luminous expression around him, the formations emitting their Laws at their various depths, the potential-color sky above carrying its quality, the realm organized in its most recent layer around the absence that was also the reason he was here.

The absence the tenth note asked him to address.

He looked at the panel.

The sword spirit crackled once, the sound carrying everything that needed to be carried.

"Yes," he said. "The proving ground."

Lin Yi drew the Thunder Surge Blade.

The blade in his hand at Sovereign depth was different from the blade in his hand at every previous depth, not different physically, the same Abyssal weapon with the same listed attack power and the same Lei Bao active within it. Different because the hand that held it was no longer a cultivator holding a weapon that expressed his Law.

The Law was the framework. The framework held the blade. The blade expressed the framework.

There was no separation.

He looked toward where the proving ground's door was positioned in the Middle Domain's territory and began walking toward it with the Sovereign depth of the Law of Slaughter present through him completely and without remainder.

Four stages to match Kǎn had been the measurement from established depth.

He was going to find out what the measurement was now.
