Chapter 475: Chapter 236: The Corpse Transformation Talisman Is Used at Last

Under the astonished gazes of Xiaojiu, Bai Wan, and the others, the three corpses—along with their clothes and hair—rapidly dissolved and decomposed at a visible rate.

Finally, they turned into a small pile of ash, slightly darker than the soil. A gentle breeze through the forest scattered it, and it blended into the thick layer of decaying leaves on the ground, vanishing without a trace. Not even the faintest smell of blood remained.

"Not bad."

Yang Qi nodded in satisfaction.

’The Corpse Transformation Talisman worked even better than I expected. As expected of a product from the System. It’s a perfectly clean job.’

Next, Yang Qi used the Small Transport Technique from a distance. He retrieved the three handguns he had previously thrown into the bushes, along with several spare magazines he had taken from the corpses. After checking to make sure he hadn’t missed anything, he stored them all in his Hundred Pouches Belt.

These items couldn’t see the light of day, but they might come in handy sometime in the future.

As for the cell phones, wallets, IDs, and other items taken from Wu Kemin and his men, Yang Qi simply used brute force to crush them all to pieces before casually tossing them into a steep ravine nearby.

Finally, he meticulously inspected the area one last time. He used a branch to sweep away their footprints and did his best to smooth over the signs of the fight—mainly the marks from the tangled vines and whipped branches. He made sure that, on the surface, it looked like nothing more than an ordinary, somewhat messy clearing in the woods.

Once he had done all this, Yang Qi led Xiaojiu, Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard out of the forest, heading down the mountain.

...

「After leaving the mountain.」

While driving his SUV steadily, Yang Qi took out his phone, found Deng Lei’s number, and made the call.

The phone rang a few times before it was answered.

"Advisor Yang?" Deng Lei’s hearty voice came through the line.

"Captain Deng, sorry to bother you. I need to ask you for a favor."

Yang Qi said, "I think there might be something wrong with my car."

"Your car? Did it break down?"

"Not a breakdown."

Yang Qi explained, "It’s like this. I took the dogs to the back mountain for a run today. When we came back, Xiaojiu suddenly started circling the car, sniffing and scratching restlessly, especially under the chassis and near the trunk."

"I checked it myself but couldn’t see anything. But Xiaojiu has never acted like this before, so I’m a little worried. I was hoping you could help me find a trustworthy guy who knows his stuff to check my car. See if there’s a problem? Like, maybe someone tampered with it?"

Yang Qi delivered the speech he had prepared, his tone natural.

On the other end of the line, Deng Lei was silent for two seconds before his voice turned serious. "Xiaojiu found it? Alright, I understand. Drive over to the White Tower District Forest Police Brigade station now. I’m here at the station."

"Okay, I’ll be there in about twenty minutes. Thanks, Captain Deng!"

"Don’t be so formal with me. Drive safe."

After hanging up, Yang Qi turned the car around and drove toward the White Tower District Forest Police Brigade station.

Twenty minutes later, Yang Qi’s black Wrangler pulled into the Forest Police Brigade’s compound.

As soon as he parked, he saw Deng Lei walking quickly toward him, accompanied by two young officers in police uniforms. They were carrying something that looked like a metal detector and a small scanning device.

"Captain Deng."

Yang Qi got out of the car and greeted him, then nodded to the two officers.

"Advisor Yang, you’re here."

Deng Lei walked up, first glancing at Xiaojiu, who was perched on the front passenger seat curiously peering out the window. Then he looked at Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard as they jumped out of the back, and smiled.

"Quite the entourage. Alright, let them all out. Have them wait on the side."

"Xiaowang, Xiaoli, get started. Be thorough. Check it inside and out, don’t miss a single inch."

"Especially the hidden spots—the chassis, the wheel hubs, under the hood, beneath the seats, the trunk’s inner compartments."

"Yes, Captain Deng!" the two officers replied.

Xiaojiu, Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard quickly jumped out of the car.

One of the officers began scanning around the car with a device, while the other put on gloves and started a more detailed physical inspection.

Yang Qi led his Guardian Beasts to the shade of a nearby tree and watched them work.

Deng Lei offered Yang Qi a cigarette, but Yang Qi waved his hand to decline.

Deng Lei didn’t light it either, just held it between his fingers, his expression somewhat grave. "Advisor Yang, your concern is both timely and necessary. Those people from ’Jiulian Mountain’ are unscrupulous. They’ll pull any dirty trick in the book."

"Xiaojiu is perceptive. He might have really found something we can’t see with the naked eye. If they’re really behind this, it means they’re paying far more attention to you than we anticipated."

Yang Qi nodded without speaking, his gaze fixed on the officers inspecting the vehicle.

The inspection was very thorough.

About ten minutes later, the officer with the scanner suddenly stopped at the inner side of the mudguard above the rear right wheel. The device emitted a faint beeping sound: BEEP BEEP BEEP.

"Captain Deng, I’ve got something! The signal is abnormal here!"

The officer reported immediately.

The other officer heard this and came over, carefully feeling around the area with his hands.

Soon, using a small tool, he carefully extracted a black electronic device from behind a plastic clip hidden inside the mudguard—a clip designed for routing wires. The device was slightly larger than a fingernail, as thin as a cicada’s wing, and completely black.

"It’s a miniature GPS tracker. The latest model—long standby time, strong signal, and it’s magnetic."

The officer examining it took a close look and confirmed.

Deng Lei’s expression darkened.

However, that wasn’t all. The officer with the scanner continued to circle the car. As he reached the area below the driver’s side door, the device once again let out a more urgent series of beeps.

"There’s another one here!"

The other officer immediately crouched down to inspect it.

This time, from a nearly unnoticeable crevice inside the weather stripping at the bottom of the driver’s side door, he pulled out another black device. It was even smaller and thinner—the size of a soybean—and had a tiny microphone hole.

"Is this a miniature listening device?!"

The officer’s voice was filled with shock.

A tracker wasn’t enough, they actually planted a bug too!
