Wizard: Scamming a Demon God
Chapter 297 - 223: The Scapegoat and the Mysterious Event (Part 2)
Chapter 297: Chapter 223: The Scapegoat and the Mysterious Event (Part 2)
In the world of magic, names hold power. That’s why the Sect’s research group studying Pure-blooded Giant Dragons named the Dragon they created after a former Dragon God.
Naturally, for beings like Deities, even just speaking Their Divine Names could draw Their attention. No matter the circumstances, attracting the gaze of an Outer God was never a good thing, even for a High-level Mage like Mensa.
However, in contrast to Mensa’s panic, Isaac just paused for a moment. Then, with a look of realization and a hint of apology, he said, "Oh, my apologies. It’s a habit. I forgot you don’t have the protection of the Gate of Legends. Anyway, based on my deductions, those Cultists belong to *that* one."
"You mean... Dimension Apostles? But *that one* is an incredibly powerful Dimensional Demon God. His Dimension Apostles should also be very strong, and the rejection they’d face in the Real World should be immense. Why..." As he spoke, a trace of suspicion crept into Mensa’s eyes as he looked at Isaac. He knew that Isaac also possessed a Dimension—albeit a small one, theoretically not yet large enough to nurture a Dimension Apostle.
But, a Mad Witch...
Their growth defied all logic!
Especially when it came to abilities derived from an Outer God. Any rate of growth, no matter how fast, was to be expected.
Therefore, he had reason to suspect that the Dimension Apostles belonged to Isaac, who was merely trying to frame the Master of Billions of Flesh!
Of course, Mensa had to admit this suspicion also stemmed from his initial bias against Isaac.
"No," Isaac said, shaking his head. "Dimensional Demon Gods can intentionally create weaker Dimension Apostles to do their bidding. It’s just that under the radiation of such a Demon God’s immense standing, these Apostles grow very quickly and can’t operate for long. That’s why few Demon Gods do it."
"Is that so?" Mensa asked, his voice tinged with suspicion.
He was now even more suspicious that this was just a story Isaac had fabricated. However, he had no way to confirm it, so he prepared to verify it afterward. For the sake of the Empire, he could make a small exception and delve into some Knowledge about Outer Gods.
’If I confirm that Isaac is really the one pulling the strings...’
An imperceptible, cold glint flashed in Mensa’s eyes. After all, unless it was a fated death, any other prophecy could be changed. Success, however, was never guaranteed.
Although Isaac didn’t notice the subtle, cold glint in Mensa’s eyes, he did detect the suspicion in his tone. But Isaac wasn’t the least bit flustered.
Because he was telling the truth. Dimensional Demon Gods did indeed possess this ability, and several had done so throughout history—including the Master of Billions of Flesh!
This was why Isaac had acted so aggressively, making a move directly against the Empire.
He knew full well that the Emperor’s prophecy was his greatest protective talisman.
With the Emperor on the verge of death, the Empire didn’t have many cards left to play.
That was why Isaac could appear so composed.
Of course, while making his move against the Empire, he had also prepared an escape route. He had already placed a destruction device within his Mage Tower. If the Empire tried to move against him, he would immediately summon an Evil God to perform a Divine Descent and use its power to fight the Demigod Emperor. Meanwhile, he would escape to his Dimension World as the Mage Tower self-destructed, severing the link between the Dimension World and the Real World.
Then he would leave the Empire, find a place to lie low and build his power, and once the Emperor was dead, he could charge back to the Terra Empire for revenge!
However, things didn’t develop as Isaac had expected. He had thought there would be a longer period of back-and-forth with the Empire before he had to retreat. But just as Mensa was about to ask Isaac for more information, a Magic Book floated out from Mensa’s robes and began to shimmer before him.
Seeing this, both Isaac and Mensa froze. Someone was sending him a message via the Magic Book—an urgent one at that!
Although this world lacked a convenient form of Magic Communication like a telephone, the Magic Book served a similar function, and with even greater secrecy!
A message that popped up like this was usually extremely urgent.
Mensa’s brow furrowed. He shot Isaac an apologetic look before quickly opening the Magic Book. His expression visibly hardened.
A moment later, he looked up at Isaac, his gaze incredibly grave. "You were right! Just now, *His* Dimension Apostles led a horde of Cultists to invade a border town in the former Itra Kingdom. They sacrificed the lives of the entire town to *that one*!"
"Right about what?" Isaac froze, then asked in disbelief, "It was really the Master of Bill... *that one*? Why?"
’I’m a little confused,’ Isaac thought. ’Good heavens, I was just making it up. This has nothing to do with me... right?’
Isaac felt an inexplicable sense of guilt...
Mensa noticed Isaac’s disbelief and slight guilt. However, now that it was confirmed the Master of Billions of Flesh was responsible, he had already dismissed his suspicions about Isaac. As for his guilt and disbelief, those were easy enough to understand.
"The problem probably wasn’t your ritual. The secrecy of the Gate of Legends has been flawless for years. The one behind the Gate isn’t someone a mere Evil God can afford to provoke," Mensa said, shaking his head and explaining to the slightly guilty Isaac.
Clearly, he believed Isaac’s reaction was due to the massive sacrificial ritual he had previously conducted for the Master of Billions of Flesh.
This assumption wasn’t entirely wrong; Isaac had harbored the same suspicion himself. But after hearing Mensa’s words, he relaxed and nodded thoughtfully.
’That’s right. If the problem had been with the Gate of Legends, the Master of Billions of Flesh would have come for me directly, not attacked Philo’s Itra Kingdom.’
After a moment of thought, Isaac quickly identified the source of the problem. He exchanged a look with Mensa and said, a little exasperated, "The Itra Royal Family?"
Mensa nodded wordlessly. He had clearly thought of the same thing...
The thought that the Empire was now facing the Master of Billions of Flesh because they were taking the blame for Isaac made him feel sick to his stomach.
If they were facing the Master of Billions of Flesh because of Philo, the pressure would be just as immense, but at least he would feel a little better about it.
Yet he couldn’t even blame Isaac for this. He himself had nodded in agreement with the plan. On one hand, he had been stunned by the sheer audacity of Isaac’s scheme, his mind a bit dazed. On the other, he had immense faith in the Empire’s power—or rather, the Emperor’s. A mere Master of Billions of Flesh wasn’t worthy of challenging the Emperor!
After all, the Emperor wasn’t dead yet!
But clearly, Mensa still didn’t understand Dimensional Demon Gods well enough.
Dimensional Demon Gods were different from other Deities. In the outside world, Their power was on par with other Deities of the same standing. But Dimensional Demon Gods also had their Dimensions. Inside those home territories, a Dimensional Demon God’s power would increase by at least half a level!
Some powerful Dimensional Demon Gods could even become one or two levels stronger. And most importantly, as long as the Dimension was not destroyed, the Demon God was Undying.
And a Dimension, being Infinite, was fundamentally indestructible!
Therefore, a Dimensional Demon God could only be grievously wounded or sealed, but never killed. They were just like Evil Gods in this regard; in fact, their very Existence was even more bizarre and troublesome than that of Evil Gods.
Possessing such a heaven-defying trait allowed Them to act with a certain recklessness. Once They got worked up, They naturally wouldn’t overthink things.
"I’m not supporting Itra!" After they stared at each other for a moment, Isaac was the first to speak, drawing a clear line.
At this juncture, since Philo had already taken the blame, he wasn’t stupid enough to take it back. But he couldn’t be too absolute, either. He still had to prevent the Terra Royal Family from feeding his information to the Master of Billions of Flesh. So, he couldn’t touch anything involving Itra, but if the Empire needed him elsewhere, he would have to go.
At this moment, he was just a tool for the Empire to use.
Mensa’s expression was grim as he nodded. He clearly understood that they had no choice but to shoulder this burden. So, he didn’t stand on ceremony with Isaac and said directly, "Soon, the world will undergo a massive change. At that time, we will need you to fight on behalf of the Empire. You should start preparing."
"A massive change? What kind of massive change?"
"I can’t say right now. You’ll know when the time comes," Mensa replied, nodding with a solemn expression.
