Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 276: Chapter 210: Isaac: You’re the Real Mad Witch?
Three days went by. In that time, Isaac and Liu Li had explored more than half of Nebula City, buying a mountain of small trinkets. A few were useful, but most were just novelties they picked up on a whim.
It didn’t cost much, and it was worth it to buy a little happiness.
However, their leisurely strolls had to come to an end. It wasn’t that they had tired of exploring, but that word had come from the Truth Association: the person had been contacted and was at the Association’s headquarters today. Isaac needed to hurry over, as it was rude to keep someone waiting.
Soon, Isaac once again found himself at the resplendent headquarters of the Truth Association. Led by the young, round-faced wizard, he and Liu Li entered a conference room. Inside, a young man in a silver Wizard Robe was seated, a worried frown on his face.
But the moment he saw Isaac, the young man—Siwal Itelas—saw his gloom vanish. He smiled and asked, "Isaac Solomon?"
After escorting Isaac, the young, round-faced wizard bowed respectfully and promptly turned to leave.
Isaac stepped into the room. After Liu Li closed the door behind them, he took a seat and asked with a smile, "You know of me?"
"It would be hard not to." Siwal shrugged, a note of wonder in his voice. "Isaac Solomon, the infamous God-Usurper. You killed a Tier Three High-level Knight when you had only just reached Tier Two. You became a High-level Mage less than three years after becoming a Wizard. Your name is legendary now~"
Isaac’s eyebrows rose in surprise. ’I... I’m really that famous now?’
’And God-Usurper...’
’That’s a rather grand title. All I did was make a few too many deals with Outer Gods and pick up some things nobody else wanted. What have I done to deserve such a name?’
Still, Isaac didn’t object. He knew it would be pointless. Titles were given by others, and if this one had spread, it meant that’s how the world saw him.
Therefore, instead of arguing, it was better to change his image through his actions.
"So, are you interested in my research?" Isaac asked curiously, handing the documents outlining his research proposal to Siwal.
"I’ve heard a little. It’s a very bold idea." Siwal smiled faintly and took the documents from Isaac’s hand with an air of confidence. As a High-level Mage who researched the Divine Art System, Siwal didn’t fear the True Gods as others did.
Only through deep research does one discover that this bunch of True Gods aren’t actually so terrifying. As long as you follow proper procedures, no True God will get angry just because you’re studying Their power.
Even if your methods aren’t entirely by the book, the Deity Itself won’t mind you studying Its power; only Its Church will be furious.
That’s why Siwal scoffed at the friends who advised him to stay away from Isaac. Only Wizards who knew nothing about divine research would be so wary of Isaac’s work.
’After all, even if Isaac is a Mad Witch, his research proposal was still approved by the committee. How could it possibly be the same old Mad Witch nonsense?’
Except... after Siwal finished reading the documents Isaac had given him... he fell silent.
’This research project... was it really approved by the committee?’
The confidence on Siwal’s face vanished, replaced by a trace of faint fear!
Only a Wizard like him, one who researched the divine system, could understand just how outrageously blasphemous Isaac’s research was!
’Compared to this madman, all our research into Divine Power Attributes and Divine Art Systems is absolute crap!’
’This guy is actually trying to steal the authority of a Deity!’
’Dammit, Deities might let us Wizards tour Their homes, but They won’t let you secretly forge your name onto Their house deeds!’
However, seeing the sudden shift in Siwal’s expression, Isaac wasn’t disappointed. In fact, he was pleased. For deep in Siwal’s eyes, he saw a glint of barely perceptible madness.
Legendary Mages were never meant to be a well-behaved lot.
Their original power was seized from beings from beyond. As the saying goes, once you’ve done something, it’s easier the second time. After tasting a shortcut, few could tolerate the slow grind of power improving gradually, or worse, the feeling of it not improving at all for long stretches.
This was the reason Mad Witches continued to emerge, an unending stream.
Desire, after all, is humanity’s greatest fundamental flaw.
Siwal was a Legendary Mage, too. He might be one of the more normal ones, but that same streak of madness still flowed in his veins.
Moreover, he was a Wizard who dared to research the great power of Deities!
His methods may have been a bit more orthodox, but a normal Legendary Mage would never study Divine Power. Their own power, after all, came from such beings.
Therefore, a typical Legendary Mage would maintain a healthy dose of fear toward Deities—even True Gods!
This faint fear generally lasted until a Legendary Mage became powerful enough to contend with a True God.
This meant Siwal must harbor extraordinary ambitions, ambitions he had kept firmly suppressed until now. And now, the opportunity to unleash them had arrived: Isaac’s research proposal.
The project was backed by the Flesh Sect. This meant that if they produced significant enough results, the Sect could suppress the wrath of not just one Deity, but an entire Pantheon—even the collective fury of all True Gods!
Of course, that hinged on them producing sufficient results.
This was supposed to be the biggest hurdle, but now, even that was guaranteed to a certain extent—by the God-Usurper, Isaac Solomon!
He had proposed and designed the entire research project. As a Mad Witch who frequently dealt with Outer Gods, no one understood Deities better than him. Furthermore, he possessed highly advanced techniques for creating artificial Divine Species. The probability of achieving a major breakthrough was high!
That was one side of it. The other was that Isaac had set up the entire project himself. If something went wrong in the future, he, the Mad Witch, would be the one to suffer the most. The rest of them would be considered accomplices at worst. The punishment might be severe, but it wouldn’t be life-threatening.
So, while a trace of fear still lingered on Siwal’s face, it was only a trace. The rest had already transformed into the most extreme form of madness!
"I’ll join, but I have two conditions!"
Isaac’s eyebrows shot up. He nodded happily. "Never mind two. If it’s within my power, I’ll agree to two hundred!"
"I don’t need two hundred. My first condition is this: there is a Sub-plane in Isman Valley, outside Nebula City. Inside are three very powerful High-level Demons. Kill them, and bring me their corpses and the Moon God Flowers from their lair." Siwal’s emotions gradually calmed, and his expression returned to a controlled state. Both the fear and the madness had all but vanished.
"No problem." Isaac nodded, then asked, "And the second condition?"
"For the second condition, I want to add another research objective to the project: creating the Moon’s Favored!!!"
"!!!"
Isaac’s pupils contracted!
