Chapter 83: Golden Crow Phase 1 Modification Project
Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Golden Crow Phase 1 Modification Project
"There is no need to directly modify your Magic Attribute. Instead, we’ll build a bridge between your Spiritual Power and the Samadhi True Flame."
Chen Shang explained Elemental Enchantment to the Golden Crow in detail.
"The Dream Manipulation talent has too limited of an attack method. Other than using Spiritual Power to interfere with your opponents, you have almost no self-defense capabilities.
"If you master the Samadhi True Flame, your combat prowess will undergo a qualitative transformation, and your subsequent evolutionary path will become much broader..."
The Golden Crow was highly tempted and nodded heavily. "Bring it on, Boss. Just go for it. I trust you!"
"Alright. I’ll prepare some things. Implanting this Witchcraft is very simple; it’ll be done soon."
Chen Shang opened his Crystal Plate and began searching for a Potion that "protected the will." It was similar to an anesthetic, but instead of numbing the physical body, it numbed the consciousness’s perception of the modification process.
This was because live Enchantment was completely different from inanimate engraving.
The physical bodies of Creation Species could be messed with at will, but the Golden Crow was a living being. It had its own soul and will. If subjected to a forced modification, it could suffer from mental derangement at best, or total consciousness collapse at worst.
Soon, Chen Shang found a suitable one called the "Spirit Sleep Potion." It was commonly used to protect the Spirit of Low Tier volunteers from trauma during surgeries.
It wasn’t too expensive—only one hundred Wizard Coins per vial.
Before the Potion arrived, Chen Shang cleaned the operating table, finished calibrating the Rune Array, and went over the entire procedure with the Golden Crow one more time.
When the delivery arrived, Chen Shang took a test tube out of the incubator. It contained a pale purple Spirit Sleep Potion.
The Golden Crow crouched on the table, its feathers pressed tightly against its body. Chen Shang brought the Potion to its beak, and it opened its mouth, swallowing it in one gulp.
As the Potion slid down its throat, the Golden Crow’s gaze began to lose focus, and its pupils dilated. It lay on the operating table; its eyelids grew heavier, and its breathing slowed.
Chen Shang mentally ran through the steps again.
Summoning the Samadhi True Flame, stabilizing the frequency, guiding it into the body, attaching it to the Sea of Consciousness, and establishing a connection with the Golden Crow’s Spiritual Power... He couldn’t afford to make a single mistake at any step.
He picked up a rune pen and muttered to himself, as if suddenly remembering something, "Actually, the Golden Crow is supposed to master a different kind of flame. Attaching the Samadhi True Flame to it is really a bit mismatched."
The Golden Crow, on the verge of slipping into a coma, suddenly widened its eyes. Its consciousness struggled with its last ounce of strength.
"Huh? Boss, what did you say? Is this actually reliable?"
"It’s fine. A Wizard must dare to break convention."
The Golden Crow’s eyes widened even further. "Is it too late to back out now?" That was the last sentence it spoke before its consciousness fell into a deep slumber.
"Of course it is. You already drank the medicine." After Chen Shang spoke, the Golden Crow’s eyes closed completely, and its breathing became even and slow.
In truth, for Chen Shang, triggering the entry for the Samadhi True Flame was already a stroke of good luck, even if its completeness wasn’t high. As for flames related to the sun, he couldn’t access them for the time being.
However, this phase of modification would allow the Golden Crow to become a creature with the Flame Attribute. If they encountered a more suitable one in the future, they could simply swap it out.
After confirming that the Golden Crow’s condition was stable, Chen Shang got to work.
The Flame Runes for the Samadhi True Flame were already thoroughly committed to his memory. He stripped a sliver of the Samadhi True Flame from his Secondary Magic Spring, wrapped it in his Spiritual Power, and carefully guided it into the Golden Crow’s Sea of Consciousness.
Inside the Sea of Consciousness, the effects of the Spirit Sleep Potion manifested as a pale purple membrane that enveloped the Golden Crow’s origin consciousness, like an insect preserved in amber.
Chen Shang manipulated the Samadhi True Flame to glide along the outside of the membrane, searching for a suitable place to attach itself. At the same time, his Spiritual Power built a bridge between the Samadhi True Flame and the Golden Crow’s Spiritual Power.
The experiment progressed smoothly. In less than an Hourglass of time, the Samadhi True Flame that Chen Shang had transferred settled into the Golden Crow’s Sea of Consciousness like a seed. The spiritual connection had also been successfully established.
As the effects of the Spirit Sleep Potion wore off, the Golden Crow slowly roused from its coma.
It opened its eyes and shot up from the operating table. Its ruffled feathers flattened tightly against its body before it opened its beak and subconsciously spat out a small fireball.
"Boss, I can feel the Flame Element... but I can’t use any of my original Skills anymore. Dream Perception is gone, and Mental Shock is gone too..." the Golden Crow said in a panic.
"That’s perfectly normal; your body is still adapting." Chen Shang observed the Golden Crow’s condition before continuing, "My Second Magic Spring can only release Flame Witchcraft because I directly enchanted the Magic Spring with an attribute.
"The modification I performed on you is different. I built a bridge between your Spiritual Power and the Samadhi True Flame. Once your body gradually adapts to this evolution, you won’t lose your racial talents."
The Golden Crow swallowed the small fireball back down, closed its eyes to feel it out for a moment, and then opened them again. "I think... I feel it a little bit. Deep within my Sea of Consciousness, something is giving off heat."
Chen Shang stood up. "This evolution will continue for a while. Do your best to adapt to it. Who knows, maybe in the future you’ll be able to unleash Flame Attacks inside other people’s dreams!"
That single sentence instantly cheered the Golden Crow up. It continuously spat out flames and swallowed them back, having the time of its life.
Surtr walked over from the Temperature-Controlled District. It looked at the Golden Crow with a trace of envy in its eyes. "Boss, I want it too."
Chen Shang patted Surtr’s head. "You’re a Magma Giant. You’re intrinsically a Flame Creature, so you only need to learn slowly to master the Samadhi True Flame. There’s no need for this kind of modification."
Surtr lowered its head. "But those Runes are too complicated!"
This was a common flaw among many races. They were far better at evolving based on their Bloodlines and instincts, finding it difficult to dissect the underlying structures and logic of their racial talents.
"It’s alright. If a guy like the Golden Crow can master it, you’ll definitely have no problem," Chen Shang consoled.
"What is that supposed to mean? Boss, am I stupid?" The Golden Crow was unhappy upon hearing this.
"It took you several years just to grasp the most basic Flame Runes. Do you think you’re smart?" Chen Shang replied bluntly.
A flighty creature like the Golden Crow needed to be kept in check, while an honest, simple-minded, and straightforward guy like Surtr needed to be encouraged.
After Surtr returned, a strand of Luna Xiya’s mycelium clung to the window again. The timid mushroom had also been peeking at the Golden Crow’s modification.
Chen Shang glanced at her and shook his head. "Don’t try to join in on the fun. Your attributes lean toward life and the Water Element. They conflict too heavily with the Samadhi True Flame. Forcibly converting it would burn away your Spiritual Power."
Luna Xiya shrank back and asked, somewhat unwilling to give up, "Then when will I get a chance to undergo this kind of evolution?"
"Hmm... we’ll wait until we encounter a suitable one." Chen Shang spread his hands. There would eventually be a chance to stumble upon an entry from the Plant Type series.
Over the next few days, the Golden Crow’s transformation became highly apparent, visible even from its outward appearance. Its pitch-black feathers gradually turned pale gold, while its Power and flight speed also experienced a significant boost.
A specific creature came to Chen Shang’s mind—the Fire Crow.
