Chapter 170: Chapter 116: Blizzard Project and the 4th Magic Spring
After finishing his match with Alicia, the minor exam was practically over for Chen Shang. Because his battle record was stunning enough—winning all three matches with irrefutable skill—the examiners had ranked him first in terms of Points.
Although there were still matches left to determine the final rankings, they had nothing to do with Chen Shang anymore, unless someone else wanted to challenge him.
People in the audience gradually stood up. Some walked toward the exit, some looked down at their Crystal Plates, and others were still debating the details of the Ice Dragon showdown with those next to them.
"Water-Fire Heaven Extremes, Body Techniques enhancement, Wind Element Control, Natural Fury, and that Three Elements Mutual Multiplication Witchcraft... just how many types of Witchcraft does he know?"
"I heard he’s also practicing the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force. Who knows how far along he is with that."
"Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force? That Witchcraft from the Starfall Legacy? He’s practicing that too? Where does he find the time?"
"I don’t know. Regardless, if you run into this guy in the future, you have to be careful."
These people were observers from other laboratories. Their discussions drifted into Chen Shang’s ears from both sides of the corridor, but he didn’t look back, simply walking into the rest area and closing the door behind him.
The door shut out the outside noise. He sat down on a chair, leaned against the backrest, and closed his eyes for a moment.
Three matches, three victories. However, the actual combat had also exposed quite a few problems. He picked up his Crystal Plate and began to take notes.
First, the input Magic Power for the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes had stabilized at 110 degrees. With a twenty-fold leverage, it produced 2,200 degrees of Attack Power, which was sufficient against a Second Level Apprentice.
But in today’s match, Alicia’s Frost Domain had suppressed the burning efficiency of his Samadhi True Flame, nearly compromising the power of the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes.
He needed to study how to maintain the stability of the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes amidst extreme environmental changes. He couldn’t allow environmental factors to become his weak point.
Second, the model for his Three Elements Witchcraft was not yet mature enough.
Although the superposition of Wind, Water, and Fire boasted astonishing power, its consumption of Spiritual Power was three times that of the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes. Moreover, the cohesion time was too long, making it very difficult to find an opportunity to use it in actual combat.
He needed to find a more efficient method of superposition, or simply keep the Three Elements Witchcraft as a trump card, refraining from exposing it in conventional battles.
Finally, the mismatch between the Eye of Truth and his Witchcraft output had been glaringly obvious in this match.
He could see the opponent’s weaknesses, capture the fluctuations of energy nodes, and predict attack trajectories.
But seeing didn’t equal hitting.
In the match against Alicia, his Eye of Truth had long captured the secret of her Double Casting, yet he had surprisingly found himself out of options, forced to expend a massive amount of Magic Power just to maintain the Shield of Monatomic Heavy Water.
It wasn’t until the late stages of the match that he managed to break it using a Curse.
It wasn’t that his eyes weren’t fast enough, but rather that his body couldn’t keep up. He needed to develop more Witchcraft that paired well with the Eye of Truth—preferably offensive methods capable of precisely striking weaknesses.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Chen Shang looked up. "Come in."
Alicia pushed the door open. Her braids had been re-woven, and the bloodstains on her face had been treated, leaving only a faint red mark.
She had changed into a clean Magic Robe, looking much more plain and neat. She stood at the doorway without entering immediately, her gaze sweeping around the rest area before landing on Chen Shang.
"I’m not bothering you, am I?"
"No." Chen Shang put down the Crystal Plate and stood up. "Do you need something?"
Alicia walked in, closed the door, and sat down on another chair.
She took a roll of blueprints from her robes and spread it out on the table. The roll was compact, but the blueprint was quite long when unrolled. Drawn on it was a complex Rune Array: a regular hexagon with a core Rune at each corner, densely packed auxiliary Runes along its six sides, and a blank circle in the center.
She pushed the blueprint in front of Chen Shang.
"This is my Blizzard Project." There was a trace of anticipation in her tone. "I need a Witchcraft capable of modifying the environment on a large scale. Ice Element Affinity relies too heavily on ambient moisture, so its power drops drastically in unsuitable conditions."
"Call Wind?" Chen Shang raised an eyebrow. Call Wind wasn’t heavily affected by the environment.
"Exactly. This Witchcraft of yours can extract the Wind Element from the void without relying on the external environment. If we can combine Call Wind with my Ice Witchcraft, we can create a blizzard environment on any plane." Alicia nodded heavily. "Are you interested in developing this Witchcraft with me? I’ll handle the Ice Element part, and you handle the Wind Element part!"
"Of course." Chen Shang wouldn’t refuse such a mutually beneficial project. He looked down at the blueprint, his Eye of Truth activating silently.
The hexagonal Rune Array transformed into a three-dimensional energy structure in his field of vision.
The core Runes on the six corners were condensation nodes for the Ice Element, the auxiliary Runes on the six sides were energy transmission channels, and the blank circle in the center was the access point for the Spellcaster’s Spiritual Power.
The logic of the Rune Array was self-consistent, but there was a problem: the hexagonal structure would create blind spots in energy transmission. The energy distribution between the Rune nodes was uneven—the sides closer to the core Runes would overload with energy, while those farther away would suffer from an energy deficit.
He tapped his finger on one corner of the blueprint. "Your Rune Array... the energy distribution here is flawed. The Ice Element decays during transmission, meaning the further it is from the core, the lower the density of the Ice Crystals. While your Frost Domain has a large coverage area, the power of the Ice Blades in the peripheral regions drops by more than forty percent."
Alicia’s eyes lit up. "You can see that? You just saw the Rune Array and you can already point out its weaknesses? What a terrifying learning ability. No wonder you’ve mastered so many types of Witchcraft!"
"No, it’s just that I happen to have studied similar Wind Rune Arrays." Chen Shang shook his head. He had been deciphering the Fei Lian Eight Winds, so naturally, he understood similar situations.
