Chapter 619: Chapter 46: Bloodline Inheritor

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!

A knock came from outside the private room.

Neither too light nor too heavy, it was just loud enough for those inside to hear without being startling.

Hearing the sound, Cheris’s brow furrowed slightly, and a flicker of barely perceptible displeasure crossed her eyes.

The displeasure was faint, so faint it was almost nonexistent.

But Alonso, standing behind her, caught it all the same.

His heart leaped in his chest.

In that instant, he was once again hit with the same feeling of imminent death he’d experienced when facing the flash of Lord Melfield’s sword.

No!

In fact, this feeling was even more profound than before.

It was as if he were about to be delivered into the god of death’s domain.

Alonso quickly lowered his head, not daring to look any longer. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

The waiter in the room had clearly felt that shadow of death as well, his face turning deathly pale.

But he remained standing to the side, maintaining a slight bow. His expression was respectful, and he did his best to keep his voice steady:

"My apologies for the interruption, Lady Douglas. We’ve been informed that a guest wishes to see you."

Cheris said nothing, merely lifting her eyes to glance at him.

The glance was light, as if it were just a casual peek.

But a fine layer of sweat instantly beaded on the waiter’s back, and his entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.

He hurriedly continued, his voice trembling with a hint of panic:

"It’s Senator York Sedrick."

"If you don’t wish to see him, I’ll turn him away at once."

Cheris arched an eyebrow.

At the name, the trace of displeasure in her eyes faded somewhat.

"That won’t be necessary. Let him in."

The waiter breathed a sigh of relief, turned quickly, and walked softly to the door, gently pulling it open.

Outside, a middle-aged man in a dark blue magic robe stood waiting quietly.

He was one of the spectators who had been watching the little drama between Alonso and Pittman in the square earlier.

York stepped into the room, his gaze sweeping across the interior before immediately locking onto Cheris on the sofa.

She was leaning against Murphy in a casual, intimate posture, her arm naturally draped around his, her body practically molded to his side.

York’s gaze lingered on Murphy’s face for a second. He gave a slight nod, a silent greeting.

Then, he turned to Cheris, a perfectly measured smile on his face.

"Good afternoon, Lady Douglas."

Cheris regarded him with a bland expression, her face devoid of the playful charm she showed Murphy. All that remained was a cold indifference.

"What is it, Cedric? Be quick about it."

York’s smile didn’t waver in the slightest.

He seemed long accustomed to Cheris’s attitude.

As a seasoned veteran of the Senate, he knew this young leader’s personality all too well.

’She appears innocent and carefree on the surface, but her mind runs deep.

’Her current impatience, however, is genuine.

’And yet, she’s remarkably patient with Mr. Melfield beside her.’

York’s gaze flickered discreetly toward Murphy beside her before he spoke again.

"It’s about the development license for the Alternate Plane."

Before he could finish, Cheris cut him off.

"If that’s what this is about, don’t bother."

Her voice was still sweet, yet it carried an undeniable, domineering tone.

"The development license for the Kronos Plane must be mine."

York was taken aback.

He hadn’t expected Cheris to be so blunt and unsparing.

But he was a man who had weathered many storms, and he quickly regained his composure.

He sighed, his smile twisting into a helpless, wry grimace.

"Lady Douglas, can’t we negotiate?"

Cheris didn’t respond, simply watching him with a playful glint in her emerald eyes.

York continued.

"The Kronos Plane holds a special significance for our Shaping Domain."

He paused, seeming to choose his words carefully.

"You must be aware that we have been researching a particular bloodline. It’s a nearly extinct lineage passed down from ancient times."

Cheris’s brow twitched slightly.

But she remained silent.

Seeing this, York pressed on.

"Recently, our research has finally yielded a breakthrough. If we can secure the development rights for that plane, we’ll be able to extract a key substance from its native creatures—a substance that can stabilize the bloodline."

His voice was tinged with unconcealable excitement.

"Lady Douglas, you must understand the significance of inheritors of advanced bloodlines. They aren’t ordinary Wizards. They are beings born with immense power."

"They don’t need to spend decades, or even centuries, like ordinary Wizards, studying the Laws and forging a Legendary Seed. The Law itself flows through their veins."

"A Fourth-Level bloodline inheritor is the equivalent of a Fourth-Level Wizard."

"If our research succeeds, the Empire will be able to mass-produce such individuals."

"At that point, the Empire’s military strength will be significantly enhanced. Whether it’s defending against the encroachment of the Nightmare World or developing new planes, everything will become much easier."

Cheris listened quietly, her expression unchanging.

Only when he had finished did she speak, her voice laced with disdain.

"And? What does any of that have to do with me?"

She held up a hand, wiggling her slender fingers. Her nails, coated in glossy black polish, shimmered in the light.

"Don’t come to me for an investment, and don’t try to sell me on some grand vision."

"I’m not one of your gullible commoners."

"’Epoch-making?’ ’Filling a void?’"
