Wizard: I Have a Cultivation System
Chapter 615 - 44: Legendary Seed
Chapter 615: Chapter 44: Legendary Seed
"But with Nightmare Pills, ordinary people can work in the radiation zones. They can construct more buildings, mine more resources, and support a larger population."
"You could say that without Nightmare Pills, the Imperial of today wouldn’t exist."
Murphy was silent for a moment, then he slowly spoke:
"I imagine it’s also a way to make people work harder."
Rodrick’s expression filled with admiration.
"Sir... you are correct."
"The Imperial’s operations require a massive labor force. And Nightmare Pills do indeed allow ordinary people to endure higher-intensity work."
"Working in the radiation zones requires taking Nightmare Pills by default. But the pills’ effects are temporary; once they wear off, you have to take them again."
"So, if you want to stay alive, if you want to avoid the torment of radiation sickness, you must work constantly and take Nightmare Pills constantly."
Murphy nodded.
He was all too familiar with this logic.
Take wages, for example.
You work, you get paid, you use your wages to buy necessities, and then you go back to work.
Here, the system was the same.
You work, you get Nightmare Pills, you use the Nightmare Pills to resist the radiation, and then you go back to work.
Without Nightmare Pills, you get radiation sickness and die.
And to get Nightmare Pills, you must work.
It was a perfect closed loop.
A closed loop from which no one could escape.
Murphy’s gaze fell on the gray-white buildings in the distance. He suddenly thought of something.
"And what if you pair that with the faith of Oriane? The doctrines that you’ll fall into Hell if you don’t strive in life, and that you cannot commit suicide—wouldn’t that be even better at stimulating people’s potential?"
In that instant, Rodrick’s expression changed completely.
His pupils contracted abruptly, his body went rigid, and his breath even hitched for a second.
"Sir—"
His voice, laced with an irrepressible tremor, was extremely hushed.
"Be silent!"
Murphy looked at him, his dark eyes as calm as still water.
Rodrick swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing violently.
His eyes involuntarily swept his surroundings as if to confirm something, then he lowered his voice and said:
"Sir, Oriane... is real."
"I know you come from an Outer Plane and may not be familiar with the faith here. But I must tell you, Oriane is not some fictional Divine Spirit, not some false god who needs the faith of believers to sustain themself."
"They are real."
"They are the official God recognized by the Imperial."
"If you were just an ordinary person who said something disrespectful, you might get away with it. But a being like you—"
He paused, his voice dropping even lower.
"A being like you who has already stepped into the Extraordinary realm... every word, every thought, could potentially be perceived by Them."
"You must not commit blasphemy lightly."
Murphy listened quietly, his expression unchanging.
But in his mind, thoughts were racing.
’Of course, I know Oriane is real.’
’Back in the Old Realm, the Church Court worshipped Oriane.’
’And according to the Church Court’s records, not only is Oriane real, but They are also the great being who personally descended upon the Wizard World in ancient times, defeated the Wizards of old, and banished them to the New Realm.’
’Those records described this event in extreme detail.’
’They said Oriane’s gaze pierced the endless void and fell upon the world ruled by Wizards.’
’With supreme authority, They shattered the Wizards’ arrogance and drove them from their homeland like stray dogs.’
’Then, Their glory descended, the Church Court rose, and the world entered an age of redemption.’
When Murphy had read those records back then, he hadn’t paid them much mind.
After all, it was the Church Court’s own propaganda, inevitably containing elements of exaggeration and deification.
But now, standing on the soil of the New Realm and listening to Rodrick, he suddenly realized something.
’The Oriane here and the Oriane in the Old Realm... they don’t seem to be the same.’
’The Church Court of the Old Realm described Oriane as the one, supreme God, the creator of all things.’
’They didn’t need the offerings of believers or the prayers of mortals. They were a self-sufficient, perfect, and flawless being.’
’People needed Them; They did not need people.’
’But the New Realm?’
’What Rodrick just said was—’
’"The official God recognized by the Imperial."’
’That sentence itself has a subtle implication to it.’
’In the Old Realm, Oriane was above all else, a being who transcended nations, regimes, and the secular world.’
’At its peak, the Church Court could enthrone Kings, depose Emperors, and pass judgment on anyone who dared challenge Their authority.’
’But in the New Realm, Oriane is "officially recognized."’
’What does that mean?’
’It means that above Them, there is an "official" body.’
’It means Their existence needs to be "recognized."’
Murphy suddenly recalled something Cheris had said before.
About the origin of Divine Spirits, about how mortals "anchor" them, about how Divine Spirits navigate the Source Sea and require the faith of mortals to sustain themselves.
’If Cheris’s theory is correct, are the Oriane of the Old Realm and the Oriane here really the same being?’
’Or is it like the Holy Scripture of the Old Realm and the Holy Scripture here—similar in appearance, but completely different in substance?’
’Like the Quran and the Bible from my past life.’
Murphy’s eyes flickered slightly.
He didn’t press the issue.
Because now was not the time.
He just glanced at Rodrick and said flatly:
"I see."
Rodrick let out a sigh of relief, his tense shoulders relaxing slightly.
He knew this topic could not continue.
If they kept talking, and if Sir were to say something else he shouldn’t, he, as a bystander, would probably suffer the consequences as well.
So, he quickly changed the subject:
"Sir, the third significance is about the Laws."
Murphy’s gaze fell on him, signaling for him to continue.
Rodrick took another deep breath, letting his voice return to a steady tone.
"Sir, you should know that every plane has its own unique Laws."
"These Laws determine how Energy operates, how matter is formed, and how life evolves within that world."
Murphy nodded.
Rodrick continued:
"But what’s special about the Nightmare World is that it gathers the dreams of countless beings from innumerable planes, and even fragments of Divine Spirits."
"These beings and Divine Spirits come from different planes, carrying the imprints of their respective Laws. When they die, or when they dream, fragments of these Laws are left behind in the Nightmare World, where they intertwine, collide, and merge."
"This is why the Nightmare World is so bizarre and so chaotic."
His voice held a hint of wonder.
"You could be walking down this street, following one Law one second, and then suddenly switch to another the next. Sometimes, a stone might be soft, a drop of water might be hot, a gust of wind might be sweet. There’s no pattern, no logic. Everything is in flux."
"But for that very reason, the Nightmare World has become a one-of-a-kind experimental ground."
In that moment, Rodrick’s eyes suddenly lit up.
It was a light that had never appeared in them before.
It wasn’t reverence, nor fear, nor humility.
But rather, a pure, heartfelt fanaticism.
"Sir, do you know what it takes to become a Third-Level Wizard?"
He didn’t wait for Murphy to answer, continuing on his own:
"You need to condense a Legendary Seed."
"The Legendary Seed is the key for an Elemental Wizard to become a Grand Wizard. It’s not just a symbol of power, but also proof that a Wizard’s understanding of the Laws has reached a certain height."
"And to condense a Legendary Seed, you must find your own Law."
"Not one learned from a book, not one heard from a teacher, but a Law that is truly your own, one that is compatible with you."
Rodrick’s voice grew faster and more excited.
"But the problem is, within the Imperial’s territory, the Laws are too stable."
"Stable Laws are difficult to observe and study, and even harder to modify to suit oneself. It’s like on the surface of a calm lake—you can never see true waves."
"But in the Nightmare World, the chaos and fluctuation of the Laws provide the perfect experimental ground."
"Here, you can witness firsthand how different Laws operate, how they conflict, and how they merge."
"You can personally experience rules that are utterly impossible in other planes."
"And even find your own unique Path."
