Chapter 66: Chapter 64: Killing Spree, Mission Canceled

Sandru looked at Roy with a sigh. Then, a sudden realization struck him, and he frowned.

"Wait, how did you get back so quickly?"

"The day the four Dukes captured the Royal Capital, you were supposed to be near the Tulip Domain. How did you cross the entire Kingdom in just three days, all the way from the Tulip Domain in the far south back to Redwood City?"

"And how did you know that the Exchange Scroll was updated to include military supplies? Did you meet André in Ice Wind City, or Benjamin in the Royal Capital?"

When Sandru finished, Roy replied calmly, "I was able to return so quickly because I’m much faster than you think."

"As for how I knew about the military supplies, I used my identity as Roy Wesley to rejoin the organization in Ice Wind City."

"After I signed the contract, André showed me the latest Exchange Scroll."

Sandru fell silent upon hearing his answer.

After a few seconds, he finally asked, "Who sponsored your entry into the organization in Ice Wind City? Was it Allen Adams?"

Roy nodded.

"Does he know you’re already a Black Iron Great Knight?" Sandru continued.

"Of course not."

"Enough about that. Where is Count Rock Lion now?" Roy said slowly.

"A few days after you left, he took Nox and several dozen Knights from Rock Lion Castle. They were heading to Ice Wind City to join the Ironblood Duke’s army."

"If the Ironblood Duke hasn’t given him another assignment, he should be in the Royal Capital by now."

"But that’s not guaranteed. From what I’ve heard, while the four Dukes were attacking the Royal Capital, they also dispatched men to raid the territories of some of the Royal Family’s Vassals," Sandru replied quickly.

"You told me before that all of Count Rock Lion’s sons were on the assassination list," Roy asked. "Are those missions still available?"

Sandru shook his head and said slowly, "All the assassination missions targeting the Beluns Clan have been canceled, except for the one on Count Rock Lion himself."

"Why were they canceled?" Roy looked at Sandru, surprised.

"That’s a question you should ask the client," Sandru replied instantly, without a hint of hesitation.

Roy sighed.

He had been planning to assassinate Count Rock Lion’s other sons for some Contribution Points, which he could then use to redeem military supplies for Ice Wolf Castle.

But now, unexpectedly, all those missions had been canceled.

The mission to assassinate Count Rock Lion himself was still active, but Roy couldn’t leave Yorkshire right now to hunt a target who might not even be in the Royal Capital.

"If there’s nothing else, I’m heading back," Roy said to Sandru.

"Alright."

Sandru nodded.

As Sandru watched, Roy put his mask back on and left the office.

After leaving the "Red Salmon and Cherry Pie" tavern, Roy went nowhere else, heading straight back to the Ice Wolf Domain.

...

「Night fell.」

Roy finished his Cultivation of the Ghost Leopard Breathing Technique inside Chaos Square and walked over to the corner where he kept his miscellaneous items.

He opened a box and took out the armor, Sword, and mask of the Dark Night Knight.

He donned the armor and Sword, then held the mask. With a mere thought, he returned from Chaos Square to the forest outside Ice Wolf Castle.

He chose a large tree with a clear view of Ice Wolf Castle and sat down on a sturdy branch.

Although his Spiritual Warning hadn’t given a precise time for the attack on Ice Wolf Castle, his intuition told him it would happen either tonight or tomorrow night.

Time trickled by.

Several hours passed in the blink of an eye.

Roy didn’t just sit there waiting foolishly. He quietly began his Cultivation of the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method.

Unlike a Breathing Technique, a Meditation Technique had no postural requirements for its Cultivation.

One could practice it while standing, sitting, or even lying down.

As long as one could concentrate on meditating on the Will Runes, posture didn’t matter.

Without the bonus from Chaos Square, Roy could clearly feel his Cultivation efficiency for the Meditation Technique drop. He didn’t much care, though.

For him, the main purpose of cultivating the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method was simply to pass the time and make the wait less tedious.

As time went on, Ice Wolf Castle grew increasingly quiet.

Aside from the soldiers on night watch, everyone else in the castle had retired for the night.

Before he knew it, the night had deepened.

Roy stopped his Cultivation of the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method and stood up on the thick branch to stretch his limbs.

’Maybe it’s not tonight?’ The thought surfaced in his mind.

After a moment’s thought, he came up with a new plan.

Without hesitation, he leaped from the tree and raced toward Ice Wolf Castle.

He planned to keep watch from inside the castle.

To be precise, he would return to Ice Wolf Castle, enter Chaos Square, and then monitor the situation from there.

In addition, he planned to meet with Tony as the Dark Night Knight to give him a warning.

That was the plan, at least.

But things rarely go as planned.

Before he could even make it back to Ice Wolf Castle, the horn signaling an enemy attack blared from within its walls.

’What’s happening?’

A surprised expression crossed Roy’s face.

He hadn’t been meditating on any Will Runes he hadn’t yet mastered. He had only been focused on the ones he already knew, which allowed him to spare enough mental energy to keep an eye on Ice Wolf Castle.

He didn’t know how the enemy had managed to get inside Ice Wolf Castle, but he didn’t dwell on it. In an instant, a white, flame-like Fighting Qi enveloped his entire body.

The next second, he pushed off with his legs and shot toward Ice Wolf Castle like a rocket.

In no time, he vaulted over the wall and landed inside the castle.

The moment he was inside, Roy saw more than a dozen Official Knights in mismatched armor, slaughtering people in front of the main keep.

Only a few seconds had passed since the horn had sounded.

It wasn’t a long time, but twenty to thirty soldiers had already been cut down.

Against these Official Knights, the ordinary soldiers, who had never practiced a Breathing Technique, were completely helpless.

The bodies of the soldiers lay scattered across the courtyard, their blood staining the flagstones red.

Roy quickly recognized the Official Knights.

’Bounty Hunters!’

’They’re Bounty Hunters!’

He’d never dealt with them personally, but he had seen them before in the "Blood and Flames" tavern.

In addition to the Bounty Hunters, he also spotted a familiar figure.

’Sir Adam!’

The moment he saw Sir Adam, Roy didn’t hesitate. He instantly drew the ruby-inlaid Fine Steel Cross Sword from his hip and shot toward Sir Adam like a bolt of lightning.

In the blink of an eye, he was upon him.

SHING! SHING!

Before Sir Adam could even react, Roy’s Fine Steel Cross Sword flashed, severing both of his hands.

As Sir Adam’s severed hands fell to the ground, Roy lifted his right foot and slammed a kick into the knight’s abdomen.

BAM!

The armor over Sir Adam’s abdomen caved in. He flew backward uncontrollably and slammed hard into the outer wall of the main keep, creating a spiderweb of cracks on impact.

Only after Sir Adam was sent flying did the Bounty Hunters, who had been busy slaughtering the castle’s soldiers, finally notice Roy’s arrival.

The moment they saw him, the Bounty Hunters froze, and then the same thought flashed through all of their minds.
