Chapter 90: Chapter 90 - Last Attempt

"V-Vinny! Are you insane?! What are you even saying?!"

Vincent’s face bore no trace of a joke. His eyes remained locked onto hers, burning with an intensity that made her heart race.

"I’m serious, Deina. You just told me you’re afraid I’ll never be there for you and that you hate that I’m living across three different realms. So, I’m giving you my answer."

He took a step toward her, closing the gap she had just tried to create.

"I’m not offering you some vague promise of ’trying my best. If you need proof that my heart belongs here with you, then let me anchor myself, my bloodline, and my entire future right to your side. I’m not asking to just date you, Deina. I’m telling you that my commitment isn’t to be made lightly. It’s permanent."

The staggering audacity of his words shattered the chaotic panic that had been building between them. The absurdity of jumping straight from an argument to a life-binding proposal broke the tension. Deina’s expression didn’t turn to anger, instead, it crumpled into a pained, melancholy.

Looking down at the grass, her lower lip trembling as she hugged her arms tightly around herself.

"You really... you really don’t know when to stop, do you? Vinny... I’m scared. I’ve been terrified to take this step for so long. Do you know why I never said a single word to you during the five hundred years we knew each other before all of this? Why I kept my mouth shut every single day?"

Vincent remained quiet, letting her speak.

"Because I was content," Deina said as a tear slipped down her cheek and caught the blue glow of the flowers below.

"I was terrified of changing things. I convinced myself that being your mentor, your friend, your safe harbor... that it was enough. The closest I’ve ever come to wavering was right before you left for Earth the first time. When we shared that kiss. And ever since then, the cracks in my heart just kept getting bigger."

She let out a wet, breathless laugh, wiping her cheek with the back of her trembling hand.

"When I went to Earth for the mission... I saw your home. I saw your family. I met your little sister. Do you know what broke my heart the most? She didn’t even know you had been gone for five hundred years.

"To her, to your world, it had only been five days. But she still missed you so much. She cried when she talked about you, about how hurt you were when your childhood friend rejected you."

Vincent’s gaze softened into a nostalgic warmth. "That moody girl actually cried for me?"

"She did... She loves you so much, Vinny. And seeing that... seeing how many people need you across different worlds... it made me realise how small my place is. So please... let’s forget any of this ever happened and go back to the way things were–"

Closing the final distance between them, Vinent reached out and pulled her in, sealing her lips with a sudden kiss that caught her completely off guard.

Deina’s eyes went wide against his cheek as her mind blanked all over again.

When he finally pulled back, his thumb gently wiped away a tear on her cheek, and he looked at her with a nonchalant, casual smile.

"I was thinking. If it’s a boy... we should name him Neo. And if it’s a girl... we should name her something like... Marigold? I dunno, those sound pretty cool. What do you think?"

"W-Wait– what?! Vinny, you can’t just–"

Before she could form another sentence, Vincent’s arm snaked around her waist and pulled her flush against his chest as he sealed her lips once more. But this time, it wasn’t a quick interruption.

It was a passionate kiss that ate all the words of doubt she was about to speak.

Vincent parted her lips and slipped his tongue inside with hers, stripping away every argument she had built over centuries.

Deina whimpered against his mouth as fresh tears spilled down her cheeks – not of sorrow, but of surrender. The last wall around her heart shattered into dust.

Her hands flew up and around his shoulder, pulling him closer, deeper, refusing to let him go. She melted into him, kissing him back with all the pent-up longing she had suppressed for half a millennium.

The starlight flora around them swayed gently in the wind as they stood locked together, pouring their souls into a single, breathless exchange.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them were gasping for air. Deina rested her forehead against his chest and clutched her hands tightly onto his shirt.

"Little Bird...?"

"Hm?"

"I... *sniff* love you... I love you so much..."

Vincent’s heart swelled with a profound sense of warmth that spread through his entire chest. He wrapped his arms tightly around hers and placed a soft kiss on top of her head. "I love you too, Deina. More than you know. I can’t imagine my future without you being there."

"... Will... Will a baby really heal all these awful insecurities in my heart? Will it really keep me from feeling so alone?"

"I know it will," Vincent replied without a second of hesitation.

He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. "Like I told you before, I’m not leaving you alone for years on end. I’m going to Earth, I’m doing that god’s favor, and I’m syncing the time dilation. I will be here with you, and with Natasha, as much as I humanly can. This child... this baby will be my promise to you that I am always coming home."

"So... it’s really okay? Is it really okay if I’m selfish? If I stay by your side?"

"Haha. I’m the one who should be asking you that, Dee."

He let go of her and confessed to her one last time.

"Deina... you have guided me, watched over me, and held me together when I was nothing more than a... well... than a little bird. But now that little bird has grown up. I want you. All of you. So, will you do me the honor... of having my first child?"

That did it.

A fresh wave of tears overflowed from her eyes, but a breathtaking smile broke across her flushed face.

"Yes... yes, yes, yes!" she sobbed happily and threw her arms around his neck. "Yes! A thousand times, yes!"

She pulled herself up and reached his lips again. The momentum of her passionate embrace threw them both off balance, and they tumbled back onto the soft bed of luminescent flowers.

The blue and purple petals exploded around them in a shower of divine light as they crashed, pressing their bodies tightly together, and locking their lips in a desperate kiss.

When Deina finally broke away from him, her golden eyes showed no signs of sorrow nor doubt. Only the mature and undeniably sexy allure that sent an electric jolt straight up Vincent’s spine remained.

She ran her fingers from his cheek, down his neck, and rested them against his collarbone as she dropped her voice into a sultry, husky purr.

"It’s getting awfully cold out here on the hill..." she bit her lower lip playfully. "As romantic as it would be to make our first of many children here, I prefer we continue this... back at my place."

"I... *gulp* yeah."

.......

BANG!

The front door of Deina’s home echoed loudly as Vincent slammed them open and carried her over the threshold.

They didn’t even make it three steps into the foyer before they were devouring each other all over again.

Vincent pushed Deina’s back against the smooth wall as his hands began tearing at the fabric of her white dress.

Deina let out a needy gasp against his mouth and also began feverishly pulling at his shirt, tearing the buttons free and shoving the fabric off his shoulders.

"Vinny... mmgh... faster..."

Through her whimpers, she tangled her leg around his hip as they stumbled down the hallway toward her room.

The remainder of their clothing fell in a messy trail across the floor – her sash, his belt, her silk undergarments, his boots.

By the time they breached the threshold of her bedroom, they were gloriously naked.

The dim light of the divine crystals illuminated their bodies. Vincent’s muscular, combat-toned frame glowed with a faint blueish hue, while Deina’s soft curves – her narrow waist, full hips, and voluptuous breasts – shimmered with a delicate orange radiance.

Vincent effortlessly lifted her up and placed her gently onto the center of the bed.

Laying face to face, he leaned down to capture her lips in a slow kiss while his hand stroked down her side, cupping the fullness of her hip.

"You’re so beautiful, Dee."

"Show me..." Her large supple breasts swayed with every deep breath. "Don’t hold back... take all of me, Vinny..."

Vincent traced his lips in a burning trail of kisses down her jawline, over her throat, and down to her chest. He took one of her perky nipples into his mouth and swirling his tongue around the sensitive peak before sucking it in deeply.

"Ah~! Mmm... Vinny~!"
