Chapter 1396: Chapter 1396: An Impromptu Elopement

Knox heard that she was still in the mood to joke and instantly relaxed a lot, joining in the banter: "With my kind of vibe, even if it’s a hooligan vibe, it’s still the best-looking, most irresistible hooligan. Have you ever seen a more charming thug than me?"

"Young Master, Young Master..." Vaguely, he could still hear that woman from before calling out to Knox.

But the voice was getting farther and farther away; if you didn’t listen carefully, you could barely hear it.

Knox walked a little further, and Scarlett heard two beeps—the sound of a car door unlocking.

"Scarlett, I’m in the car now, I’ll head over to pick you up right away. Since I need to focus on driving for the next while, let’s leave it here for now. Even though I know my voice is so magnetic you’ll suffer not hearing it, just bear with it for a bit. It’s only temporary. Once I get there, we can talk for three days and three nights straight, okay?"

What a clown.

The smile at Scarlett’s lips deepened a couple of degrees; she really was a little reluctant to hang up.

She kept feeling... even though Knox hadn’t actually arrived yet, just hearing his voice was like he was right there with her, and that way she wouldn’t feel so alone.

But she also knew that in weather like this, and at night, you really did need to be highly focused when driving.

She wouldn’t dare joke around with Knox’s life and safety.

Even if he didn’t suggest hanging up, she would have been the one to end the call.

"Okay, be really careful on the road. No matter what, safety comes first. If it’s really not convenient, you don’t have to come over."

"What kind of nonsense is that?" With a crisp sound, Knox got into the car and locked the door.

"If I don’t come, what are you going to do? A weak girl with no one to rely on, on the Saxon Family’s turf—you’d be at the mercy of that bastard Matthew Saxon, letting him knead and squeeze you however he wants. I’m not about to let you suffer like that."

Scarlett’s heart warmed, her eyes went a little misty again. She held back her tears, bit her lip, and gripped her phone tightly. "Knox... thank you. Really, thank you for being willing to come all this way."

All of a sudden, she felt a little guilty.

She had never truly treated him as a friend from the heart, yet at the critical moment, when she needed help, he hadn’t hesitated for even a second before rushing over.

A good friend probably wouldn’t do more than this.

Knox let out a low chuckle, the sound carrying a wicked edge as he joked, "Feeling really touched, aren’t you? Realizing that a good man like me is practically one in a billion? Are you thinking of repaying me with your body? If you dare offer yourself, I dare to accept."

Scarlett laughed again. "You really dare to accept? Knox, don’t think I don’t know the Simmons Family’s rules. Unless she’s a young lady who’s a proper match for the Simmons Family, she could never marry in. Old Master Simmons spoils you so much—your future wife will only be chosen from the very best after countless rounds of selection. She definitely won’t be a common nobody like me."

Knox laughed too. "Scarlett, as long as you’re willing to nod your head, I can elope with you anytime, just pack up and go. Do you believe that?"

"We can talk about that later. I’m hanging up first, okay? And don’t forget what I just said: go back right away and wait for me. Don’t keep stupidly standing around outside anymore, alright?"

"Alright, I’ll do what you say." Scarlett agreed without the slightest hesitation.

With that, Knox hung up the phone, finally at ease.

The snow made the ground really slippery, but his car still shot forward at flying speed.

Driving fast in the snow had never been a problem for Knox Simmons.
