Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1097 - 116: Hunting the Elk Herd
To prevent two promising talents from being buried, Bernard introduced these two brothers to the Survival Association in Thailand.
Due to this Eight Extremes Challenge, few people from Thailand participated.
In the end, the slots fell on these two brothers.
After Bernard learned about this, he took these two brothers along while training Roland and the others.
However, Bernard did not let them team up with Chen Wen.
The reason is simple: these two are too weak and not familiar with Chen Wen.
Listening to Cha’s narration, Chen Wen couldn’t help but marvel at how truly small the world is, unexpectedly meeting two brothers trained by Bernard here.
Since they were trained by Bernard, Chen Wen was more inclined to trust Cha brothers’ judgment.
As he listened to Cha brothers discussing the situation of the elk herd, he quickly devised a plan.
Chen Wen turned to Lee Min-jun and said, "Call your people here. I have a plan."
Shortly afterward, Lee Min-jun gathered his team members.
Changmao looked at Chen Wen curiously, anticipating Chen Wen’s hunting scheme.
Chen Wen cleared his throat and said, "Although we have had some unpleasantness before, today we have a common goal, so I don’t want anyone to cause trouble during the upcoming survival process. Do you understand?"
Changmao nodded and looked solemnly at his remaining assistant: "Listen to me later, don’t mess up, or I’ll take you down myself."
Lee Min-jun looked at his girlfriend and said, "You’ll act with Hua Yun later, you’re responsible for support."
Jin Ruiyan nodded.
Facing Chen Wen, she didn’t dare offer any opinions.
The Cha brothers sat beside Chen Wen as obediently as elementary school students, waiting for the next instructions.
Chen Wen was satisfied with the group’s performance.
He continued, "Hunting a few elk from this herd is not difficult, but wanting to kill them all is rather challenging. Additionally, let me clarify the rules. We don’t touch fawns or lactating does; we only kill stags and does not in lactation, and young elk. I assume I don’t need to elaborate on recognizing them."
The crowd nodded again.
They were somewhat surprised that Chen Wen was such a rule-abiding person.
After establishing the rules, Chen Wen said, "As for the huntable elk, I’ve just thought up a simple plan. According to Cha brothers’ description, this herd of elk is resting by a nearby creek, but the creek is about to freeze; they won’t stay long, so today is the last chance to hunt."
"Later, we’ll divide into four groups: Changmao, you and your people are one group, Cha brothers another, the two ladies a third group, and I’m with Lee Min-jun."
Upon hearing this, Cha raised his hand, somewhat unwilling: "I don’t want to be in the same group as my brother; I want to swap with Lee Min-jun."
What a genuine fan!
Chen Wen twitched the corner of his mouth but didn’t oppose: "Alright, then you’re with me."
Upon hearing this, excitement flashed across Cha’s face, while his brother looked frustrated.
He seemed to regret not proposing it first.
Seeing this, a trace of helplessness appeared on Lee Min-jun’s face.
Why does it feel like only my girlfriend listens to me among my people?
Chen Wen continued, "Our four groups approach from four directions, remember to conceal yourselves; Hua Yun will teach you soon. When you see my signal, I’ll have the Golden Eagle appear above the elk herd. When it drops the branch, we’ll attack the elk together."
"Each group should carry a long-range weapon and a melee weapon. First, use long-range weapons to attack; when the elk flee, those with melee weapons will attack the elk running toward you. The plan is simple; anyone want to add anything?"
This plan can actually be described as rudimentary.
But for those with no time to set traps for a strategic ambush, this is the simplest scheme.
According to the assigned groups, the crowd immediately began to take action.
Cha led Chen Wen, traversing through the forest, and soon they found a creek.
Following the creek upstream, it wasn’t long before Chen Wen and Cha spotted the elk herd.
At this moment, the elk herd was resting by the creek, gathered together, two elk were standing watch, while the others were slowly drinking water and feeding.
Seeing this herd of elk, Cha’s eyes lit up.
Upon his observation, many elk within the herd met Chen Wen’s hunting standards.
Almost ninety percent of the elk are huntable.
Chen Wen noticed as well.
Holding a spear, he felt an itch to act but quickly suppressed it.
The spear in his hand was mainly a deterrent.
Though not worried about betrayal, necessary precautions were still essential.
Cha pulled out something similar to Chen Wen’s spear, which upon closer inspection turned out to be a harpoon.
In all honesty, Chen Wen had never encountered a survivor using a harpoon; this Cha was quite interesting.
Cha, holding the harpoon, took up an aiming posture.
His stance felt very familiar to Chen Wen, who upon close examination couldn’t help but ask, "Your spear throwing posture, who did you learn it from?"
Upon hearing, Cha chuckled, "Learned it from you, I feel your throwing posture generates more power."
Fair enough.
Chen Wen shook his head, "Be careful, this method can easily strain your waist and abdomen."
Cha nodded.
They waited a few minutes, and soon under the watchful eyes of the Golden Eagle, others gradually arrived at their ambush spots.
They equipped their weapons and prepared thoroughly.
The Golden Eagle witnessed everything and informed Chen Wen.
Chen Wen instructed the Golden Eagle to grab a pine branch and hover above the elk herd.
All eyes near the elk herd were soon fixed on the branch held by the Golden Eagle, awaiting the opportunity.
After circling for a while, sensing the time was right, the Golden Eagle continued.
Their sense of smell had been masked by the scent of pine resin, making the elk unable to detect the surrounding people, and they themselves had entered an extremely relaxed state.
The Golden Eagle glanced at Chen Wen, and after receiving his affirmative gesture, it swiftly dropped the branch from its claws.
And as the pine branch fell.
The group, prepared for the strike, launched their attack almost simultaneously.
On Hua Yun’s side, she drew her bow and shot at a stag, three arrows in succession, all piercing through its chest.
On Cha’s side, he took a deep breath and with movements uncannily similar to Chen Wen’s, hurled the harpoon, which accurately skewered the abdomen of an adult elk.
Changmao and Lee Min-jun, also using bows, fired arrows with a whooshing sound, and more elk fell to the ground.
