Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1085 - 104: Ambush and Traps
The plan had been made, and Chen Wen, Hua Yun, and the Golden Eagle were all beginning to execute it.
Hua Yun started to process the three elk simply.
This basically involved skinning, removing the entrails, and simple dismemberment.
Meanwhile, Chen Wen entered the forest to search for a suitable food storage location.
He planned to store a part of the food outside the camp, such as on a tree.
At the same time, Chen Wen also planned to set up a few small traps near the food storage site, which might not catch large prey but would easily trap a lynx.
If that lynx dared to steal the prey recklessly, the traps would certainly trap it!
Therefore, in making traps, Chen Wen planned to try something new.
He quickly found a suitable food storage location, which was a few lush trees.
Using the intersections of the tree branches, Chen Wen tied them up with some ropes to create a suitable platform.
He pressed down with his hand to test the load-bearing capacity.
Placing the elk fawn here was no problem at all.
After setting up the platform, Chen Wen found some more ropes, as well as trap ropes brought from the main camp.
He wrapped the trap ropes around the branches and tied a slipknot at the other end.
Then, Chen Wen placed the slipknot above the branches, which was the unavoidable path to the food storage platform.
As long as that lynx smells the scent and walks onto the branches, there is a ninety-nine percent chance it will step into the trap.
The slipknot tightens, and the more the lynx struggles, the tighter it becomes.
It can be said that the hit rate of these traps is extremely high.
And to be safe, Chen Wen set up seven traps, the lynx would be trapped if it dared to climb up!
Having set up the traps.
Just as Chen Wen was about to get down from the tree, the Golden Eagle flew over with a fluttering sound.
It asked, "How about I stand here?"
Hearing this, Chen Wen looked at the Golden Eagle’s position and frowned, saying, "Isn’t it too close? No matter what, the lynx is a fierce beast. Haven’t you played with the Great Desert and Night Shadow? The ferocity of this lynx is estimated to be no less than theirs, and its size is even larger."
The Great Desert was a bobcat Chen Wen had tamed before, and Night Shadow was a Canadian lynx.
Both of these creatures are members of the lynx family.
There are only four members in the lynx family: Eurasian lynx, Spanish lynx, Canadian lynx, and bobcat.
The Eurasian lynx is undoubtedly the boss of the family, being the largest and most fierce.
Therefore, Chen Wen didn’t want the Golden Eagle to be too close.
If the Eurasian lynx suddenly attacked, the Golden Eagle could easily be injured by it.
Upon hearing this, the Golden Eagle recalled the situation with the bobcat and Canadian lynx.
It hesitated momentarily, then backed away a bit, "This distance should be fine."
Chen Wen still wanted to say more, but the Golden Eagle said, "If any further, I wouldn’t see clearly."
Alright then.
Chen Wen didn’t say more, but reminded, "Be careful, when these beasts are cornered, they might explode in fury, so be mindful."
The Golden Eagle nodded.
After confirming the ambush location for the Golden Eagle, Chen Wen got down from the tree.
He took the elk fawn from Hua Yun and placed it on the platform, covering it with a layer of pine needles as camouflage.
After finishing the trap, Chen Wen left the area.
The Golden Eagle stood atop the tree, leisurely munching on the meat portioned to it by Chen Wen.
...
Time ticked away and it soon became evening.
Chen Wen and Hua Yun stayed by the camp, roasting the elk, waiting for the lynx to take action.
After waiting a bit, the meat was cooked, and Chen Wen held the meat, his eyes flickering with anticipation.
Elk meat is more tender than moose meat, with higher fat content.
The taste shouldn’t be bad!
Thinking so, Chen Wen bit into the seasoned meat, pulling with force.
As the meat tore off, the rich aroma of spices and meat wafted out.
Chen Wen squinted his eyes, chewing forcefully, showcasing a look of enjoyment.
There’s no denying the happiness of eating meat generously.
Especially grilled meat.
Hua Yun’s situation wasn’t much different; she even roasted some pine nuts, cracking them open with stones.
Roasted nuts paired with grilled meat made for quite the feast.
Checking the elk’s entry, Chen Wen was somewhat surprised as the elk gave him a quite nice entry.
[Taiga Elf (Gold): When surviving in high latitude Taiga forests, significantly enhances your survival capabilities and experience, improves perception ability, making it easier to gain information from nature, all effects are halved when not surviving in Taiga forests]
This entry is really quite good.
A comprehensive improvement to attributes, enhancing perception, and information gaining ability.
It really is a good entry.
It’s just the halving of effects when not surviving in Taiga forests; this Chen Wen can accept.
After all, for him, most entries are fine to use once or twice, and when going to a new place, new abilities can be acquired from animals surviving in new locations.
Thus, Chen Wen is rather satisfied.
After dinner, Hua Yun stood watch at night while Chen Wen rested.
He closed his eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
However, Chen Wen hadn’t felt himself sleep for long when Hua Yun woke him up.
Opening his eyes, Hua Yun wore a serious expression.
She said, "I heard noises around, it should be that lynx, it should be here, get up and take a look."
Upon hearing this, the somewhat sleepy Chen Wen instantly perked up.
That guy’s here?
Good good, well timed!
Chen Wen crawled out of his sleeping bag, picking up the spear.
But before he could speak, he suddenly felt something off; it seemed to have gotten much colder around.
"Hiss, has it cooled down?"
Chen Wen looked around a bit surprised.
Hua Yun nodded slightly, "Ever since you fell asleep, the temperature has been steadily dropping, and as if by illusion, just now I felt like snowflakes were drifting down."
Hearing this, Chen Wen examined the surroundings closely.
He slowly said, "It’s not your illusion, it’s true, it’s snowing."
Owing to his superior eyesight, Chen Wen had already clearly seen, under the nighttime sky, sporadic snowflakes were falling.
Snowfall, to Chen Wen, symbolizes survival reaching its final stage this time.
Although time is still early, yet from this point onwards, they’ll spend most of the time within the shelter.
No time to be sentimental.
Not far from the camp, sudden rustling sounds came.
Chen Wen’s eyes lit up, immediately looking towards the source of the sound.
"This is the sound, that lynx should have been here for a while now."
Hua Yun said.
Chen Wen nodded slightly, "You guard here, I’ll go have a look."
Hua Yun nodded, gripping her bow tightly.
