Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1083 - 102: White Lynx
The Golden Eagle spread its wings, and the entire forest appeared in its vision.
Chen Wen quickly saw the prey discovered by the Golden Eagle with the help of [Shared Vision].
Elk!
Looking at the group of red and brown deer in the forest, Chen Wen immediately recognized them.
Elk, a mammal of the deer family and genus, is also the largest deer species after the moose.
Due to their horse-like appearance, people call them elk.
An adult male elk can weigh up to 200 kilograms, nearly half a ton, while female elk are lighter but can weigh up to 150 kilograms.
Elk and moose share some similar habits.
They also live in mountainous forests and grassland areas, preferring to live in groups.
They are mostly active at night and early morning in summer but are more active during the day in winter and are skilled at running and swimming.
Chen Wen disengaged [Shared Vision], opened his eyes, and looked toward the location of the elk herd in the distance.
He was already considering a hunting plan.
He and Hua Yun were still wearing those silencing shoes, and the scent of pine needles on them was strong.
"Let’s go this way, we’re already very close."
Chen Wen reminded Hua Yun to take out her bow and arrow.
Hua Yun nodded slightly.
Soon, separated by a forest, Chen Wen and Hua Yun saw the elk herd.
"It’s elk; the total number of elk in this area isn’t too high, so we’re pretty lucky!"
Hua Yun couldn’t help but say after seeing them clearly.
Chen Wen nodded slightly and asked, "Do you have any plans?"
Plan...
Hua Yun shook her head: "Not really sure, elk are quite large, my bow and arrow aren’t that powerful, so you lead the attack, and I’ll support you."
This is exactly what I was waiting for.
Chen Wen instantly said: "Alright, later I’ll use the spear to find a chance to strike down an adult male elk, while you take the bow and pick the easiest targets. This herd is grazing over there, they won’t run away in a short time, this is our chance, we can slowly choose our targets."
Hua Yun nodded.
The two began to take a detour, searching for a route with favorable wind direction and more cover.
...
Ten minutes later.
About one hundred and fifty meters from the elk herd, Chen Wen and Hua Yun slowly approached from two positions using the cover of large trees.
The strongest sense of perception for elk is their sense of smell.
Therefore, Chen Wen directly activated the entry [Gua Fragrance].
Since they were downwind, Chen Wen wasn’t too worried about the fragrance attracting the elk.
He carried the spear and progressed rapidly under the cover of the trees.
Elk’s vision is quite average; it’s only slightly better than severe nearsightedness, enabling them to see where they’re going and their food.
But once the distance increases, they can only vaguely see outlines.
Therefore, Chen Wen wasn’t too worried about being seen by the elk.
Upon reaching around one hundred meters, Chen Wen glanced back at Hua Yun, who was still approximately at one hundred and twenty meters.
Chen Wen waited for a moment and seeing Hua Yun catching up, continued his approach.
But at this point, he had to be more cautious.
At this distance, making slightly louder sounds, or suddenly appearing and disappearing, could alert the elk.
Hua Yun also heightened her vigilance.
She held her bow and arrow, watching the elk, and moved forward slowly.
But before she had gone far, Chen Wen suddenly stopped, signaling Hua Yun to halt.
While Hua Yun was somewhat confused, Chen Wen suddenly signaled her to crouch down.
Though puzzled, Hua Yun complied with the instruction.
As soon as she crouched down, she saw an all-white animal suddenly flash by in front of Chen Wen.
Hua Yun was stunned, but the animal didn’t pay any attention to her; it seemed interested in the elk herd ahead.
After flashing past the two, the animal accelerated its pace toward the elk herd.
Hua Yun couldn’t clearly see what kind of animal it was, so she cautiously moved to Chen Wen’s side and whispered, "What is that thing?"
Chen Wen carefully watched a bush in the forest and softly replied, "Lynx, an all-white lynx. Its target is the same as ours."
Speaking, Chen Wen shifted his gaze to the elk herd.
He saw the lynx’s target, an extremely young elk, possibly born this year, estimated to be only a few months old.
Lynxes rarely hunt elk calves.
Thus, Chen Wen found this pure white lynx somewhat intriguing.
This was also the reason he stopped Hua Yun.
Chen Wen wanted to observe the lynx’s next move.
It wasn’t long before the lynx emerged from its ambush in the bush.
Crouching its body, it advanced slowly and gracefully toward the elk herd like an experienced hunter.
About twenty meters away from the elk herd.
The elk herd seemed to notice something, the vigilant member of the group raised its head, listening to sounds around and smelling the air.
It appeared the white lynx was very aware of the elk’s alertness methods.
As soon as the vigilant one raised its head, it immediately lay flat on the ground, like a statue, staring at the elk.
Observing this scene, Chen Wen felt a spark of interest.
The lynx’s approach drew the attention of the elk all toward its direction.
While on the opposite side, there were no elk paying attention.
He signaled Hua Yun to follow, and the two seized the opportunity, circling from another direction toward the elk herd.
Both reached within attack range.
Chen Wen slowly took out his spear, using his eyes to signal Hua Yun to prepare.
He quietly explained: "The lynx’s hunt will surely be swift; as the lynx strikes, we need to be ready."
Upon hearing, Hua Yun nodded slightly.
And Chen Wen continued: "When the lynx hunts, the elk won’t flee immediately; they will try to group together to confront the lynx. I will then use the spear to hunt the largest male elk, while you look for opportunities to hunt other elk, understand?"
"Got it!"
Hua Yun vigorously nodded, holding her bow and arrow in hand.
There passed a span of time once more.
The white lynx patiently waited for the elk to relax their vigilance, its patience paid off, as the vigilant elk gradually relaxed, lowered its head, and resumed grazing.
The white lynx waited several more minutes.
Until it was completely sure the elk were no longer wary, it continued to inch closer from approximately ten meters away, abandoning its elegant hunter image.
Like a white flash, the lynx charged swiftly from its hiding spot toward its target, the young elk.
The elk herd noticed something launched an attack, quickly rising to look around, contemplating how to respond.
But it was already too late!
The white lynx reached the young elk’s side before they could mount their defense, raising its forepaws and clenching the young elk tightly.
Before the young elk could let out a cry, the white lynx opened its jaws and bit fiercely on the young elk’s neck.
Roaring!
The male elk emitted a high-pitched roar, and the herd immediately gathered together.
The male elk lowered their heads, using their huge antlers to ram toward the white lynx.
The white lynx seemingly understood the elk’s attack strategy well.
After securing its bite, it quickly abandoned the young elk, darting quickly away to avoid the elk’s onslaught.
The male elk stood together, forming a wall blocking between the white lynx and the female and calf elk.
However, the white lynx was not in a hurry.
It gently licked the blood stains near its mouth, leisurely eyeing the bleeding young elk being blocked by the male elk.
The young elk was bleeding!
