Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1073 - 92: Ambushing Moose
The group moved quickly to the spot where the wild boar carcass was found.
Upon arrival, Arseny brought a team member to the remnants and after a thorough inspection, they frowned.
"It’s been quite a while. Given the level of decay in this place, I’d guess it died about a week ago."
The team member said.
"Does that mean it has nothing to do with our target?"
The young team member was dumbfounded.
He thought he had discovered a crucial clue, but unexpectedly...
At this point, Arseny shook his head.
After confirming the wild boar had been dead for a long time, he immediately began examining the bones.
This inspection revealed something to him.
Arseny said, "This wild boar was likely hunted by the target, though it might have happened a while ago. Just look at the teeth marks on its bones; only a Siberian Tiger could leave such marks."
Upon hearing this, everyone gathered around, but they couldn’t identify the tooth marks and didn’t see much.
However, since Arseny said it, they trusted him.
Meanwhile, Boris had made a discovery.
He found two piles of feces: one fairly old, at least a week old, and the other relatively fresh, approximately two days old.
With the evidence from the feces, Arseny made a bold inference, "The target likely escaped from the trap and didn’t continue fleeing north but chose to return to an area familiar to it. It most likely went to the lake over there since its initial escape route was along the lake going north."
Hearing this, the group was a bit skeptical.
But Boris added, "Chances are high, given our target is not truly a wild Siberian Tiger. If it were wild, I’d believe the chances are low, but since it’s been trained, it doesn’t have strong survival abilities in the wild!"
"After nearly being caught by us, it was definitely scared, and wouldn’t dare approach unfamiliar territory. Only a familiar environment could provide it safety!"
This statement convinced the group somewhat.
The young team member said, "So, should we continue searching along the past route?"
"Yes!"
Arseny was quite sure, "After returning here, the target must have been extremely hungry, eating some of the wild boar bones and scraps of meat, and likely a lot of the leather too. Look, there are its teeth marks and tearing signs on them!"
The more he spoke, the more convinced Arseny felt about his inference.
He waved his fist, pointing southwards towards the forest, "In the direction we came from, south along the lake, it’s definitely in this region!"
"Keep searching!"
...
Chen Wen, elsewhere.
He wasn’t aware of what was happening outside.
At this moment, Chen Wen was carefully making his way forward, slowly through the woods.
Behind him, Hua Yun was also cautiously following.
Neither communicated, ensuring each step didn’t touch anything around or step on any dry branches or leaves.
Their pace was extraordinarily slow.
It took seconds for Chen Wen to observe and then slowly place his foot on the ground with each step.
The Golden Eagle, watching from high above, found the scene rather eerie.
However, the Golden Eagle didn’t perceive it as unusual.
It understood that this stealthy approach was necessary.
Because Chen Wen and Hua Yun had entered Moose territory!
Ten minutes ago.
Upon reaching the beast path Hua Yun discovered, Chen Wen sent the Golden Eagle to locate the Moose.
Searches were incredibly smooth this time.
Within just a few minutes, the Golden Eagle spotted a group of Moose alive and well.
An antlered male moose and three female moose.
After pinpointing their location, it immediately notified Chen Wen.
After assessing the wind direction, confirming he was downwind, Chen Wen decisively led Hua Yun to approach.
Thus began the scene at the beginning.
Now, Chen Wen and Hua Yun were close to the Moose herd.
Through the gaps in trees and shrubs, he could vaguely see the Moose’s movements.
The distance to the Moose was likely several hundred meters.
Chen Wen gently clenched his fist, raising his hand, signaling a halt.
Hua Yun crouched down immediately, waiting for Chen Wen’s instructions.
Chen Wen turned, facing Hua Yun, speaking softly, "The Moose are just ahead. What should we do? Any thoughts?"
Hua Yun felt nervous upon hearing this.
She hadn’t attempted to hunt such large animals like Moose before.
Thus, when Chen Wen asked for her opinion, Hua Yun didn’t quite know what to say.
After a pause, Hua Yun said, "The Moose are too large. My bow’s damage is limited. We’ll need your spear. If your spear can accurately hit, I believe you can quickly kill the Moose. Of course, I’ll coordinate with your actions for better accuracy."
This was exactly what Chen Wen was waiting for!
With a chuckle, Chen Wen said, "Then it’s settled. Follow my method. Here’s my plan."
He glanced around, finding three sticks, planting them on the ground in a straight line.
Hua Yun frowned, puzzled by this.
Chen Wen quickly explained, "You’ll wait here and try to get close enough for the Moose to be within your bow range. Then aim for the male Moose. No need to hit vital spots. Just aim for the legs or leg hollows to impair its movement."
Hearing this, Hua Yun was a bit confused.
Chen Wen pointed to the two sticks on the ground, "These represent you, the middle one represents our target Moose, and I’m represented by this one. I’ll try to circle around to the other side of the Moose, crouching there. We’ll do our usual coordination. You shoot an arrow whether it hits or not, then appear to drive the Moose in my direction where I’ll ambush and attack."
Hearing this, Hua Yun said, "This... doesn’t seem right. What if they run another way? I think it’s better if you try to get close to the Moose and attack them. I remember in the Yukon, didn’t you manage to tame Moose? Try getting close?"
Chen Wen, hearing this, shook his head.
True, he had interacted with Moose, but that was because he used ice made from brine to hold their attention.
Moreover, for some reason, the Moose in the Yukon didn’t seem very alert towards people.
He had some speculations.
Maybe, in the Yukon, Moose ancestors domesticated by locals were released and became wild. Hence, their wariness towards people was lower.
But the Moose here were different.
Even when the Golden Eagle tried to scout, the Moose were highly alert. If he went out empty-handed or even with weapons, they wouldn’t be responsive!
