Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1047 - 66: Trap—Boar Snare
If there’s anything more unfortunate in this world than encountering a terrorist in a small alley, it must be when escaping from that terrorist, another terrorist wielding a bazooka appears at the other end of the alley.
The wild boars’ situation was similar at this moment.
Fred, wielding an axe, clearly had a more oppressive aura.
This sense of oppression was abstract but undeniably present.
With Fred in front and Roland behind, the wild boars’ formation was completely messed up.
Roland, from behind, strung an arrow again, aimed at a fleeing piglet, and with a bit of foresight, the arrow whistled through the air, embedding itself into the piglet’s body.
The piglet let out a miserable scream, its body shuddering as if struck by lightning, losing balance and tumbling into the distance.
Good shot!
Fred thought as he swung his axe with all his might.
Beside him, a wild boar was desperately fleeing.
It dared not look back and instead charged towards Fred, attempting to escape from him.
But it was clearly overconfident.
Fred, swinging his axe with all his might, unleashed his strength. Standing over two meters tall, akin to a steel tower, he had formidable power enough to contend even with Chen Wen, who benefited from attribute enhancements.
Thus, when the axe solidly struck down upon the wild boar.
A part of the adult wild boar’s head instantly caved in.
It barely made a sound before breathing its last.
Simultaneously, the heavy blow even pierced through the boar’s hide, causing a large amount of blood mixed with unknown fluids to flow out.
Fred quickly stepped aside.
However, he only had this one chance to attack, for not everyone possesses great strength paired with swift speed.
Behind him, Roland also lacked further opportunities to attack.
The wild boars were fleeing towards the forest.
As a result, his shots were disrupted by the trees.
Moreover, the boars’ unpredictable escape paths made it difficult to aim, and after missing two shots, Roland gave up on his bow.
Still, the harvest this time was quite substantial.
Fred killed a grown wild boar with one axe stroke, weighing around sixty to seventy pounds.
Roland shot dead a young wild boar; it’s smaller, probably less than twenty pounds.
Another adult boar was arrowed in the belly but didn’t die immediately; it fled deeper into the forest with the arrow.
Roland asked Fred to clean up the aftermath here and have Fred build a shelter.
While he grabbed his weapon to pursue that boar.
That boar was injured in the gut and wouldn’t get far.
Roland intended to bring it back!
Fred responded, starting to drag the two dead boars together, while also picking up Roland’s missed arrows.
Then began constructing a temporary camp.
...
Over at Chen Wen’s side.
After Hua Yun returned, she briefed Chen Wen about the situation over there.
But she didn’t know that Chen Wen, through the ability of [Shared Vision], had seen everything unfold.
After hearing Hua Yun’s tale, Chen Wen voiced a plan he had already devised: "Since these wild boars are worth our effort, let’s follow your plan."
Hua Yun nodded.
She walked to the sledge and began searching for suitable tools.
Quickly, Hua Yun took out some rope.
Since Arseny and the others brought over a huge pile of rope, Chen Wen and the rest were no longer short on rope.
"Then let’s start making traps, will you join?"
Hua Yun held the rope, looking at Chen Wen.
Chen Wen nodded, catching the rope Hua Yun tossed over, pulled out a dagger, and started crafting traps.
For catching wild boars, the most effective trap is the boar snare.
The boar snare isn’t a complex trap; its working principle and crafting method are very simple.
It’s about finding a small, reasonably elastic tree, binding it with a rope forming a slipknot, tying it to the tree, setting up a trigger on the slipknot – when a boar passes over and steps on the trigger, it gets caught by the slipknot which gets tighter the more it struggles.
Forget animals; even some people who venture into the mountains for wild eats or mushrooms often can’t escape if inadvertently snared by this contraption.
So, this device is perfect for wild boars, which rely solely on brute strength – a guaranteed catch in every set!
Chen Wen knew how to make boar snares; he had seen the association’s complete trap compendium, detailing numerous boar snares.
Boar snares are not limited to one method; in various parts of the country, locals have their own boar snares.
The association’s compilation was quite comprehensive.
Regardless of the type of boar snare, they are all based on local experience of boar hunting, all effective in use.
While tying a boar snare, Chen Wen glanced towards Hua Yun.
She also used a boar snare, though their techniques slightly differed.
Soon, Chen Wen and Hua Yun had tied seven or eight boar snares.
Feeling they had enough, Hua Yun said, "Let’s go set the traps; once done, it should coincide with the time for the boars to go out foraging."
Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded: "When they go out for food, the likelihood of stepping on a trap greatly increases; let’s move!"
Chen Wen had the Golden Eagle accompany Hua Yun, and they quickly reached near the boars’ nest.
Hua Yun went one way, and Chen Wen went another, both starting to set the traps separately.
Setting traps can be somewhat complex, but certainly not difficult.
Both being dexterous individuals, trap setting came naturally to them.
At Chen Wen’s side.
Through animal trails and dung on them, he quickly identified the path the wild boars prefer.
Then, he pinpointed specific spots along their usual path suitable for trap setting.
He found a small tree with a trunk as thick as a child’s wrist.
He bent it vigorously; though hard to break, it was quite elastic.
A rather suitable place for trap setting.
Chen Wen swiftly tied the boar snare to the upper part of the tree, bent the tree down, and tightened the rope.
Next, he stepped on the other end of the rope and started setting the trap.
He didn’t dig too deep – boars have keen senses, they’re quite cautious.
If they sniff something unusual along a familiar path, they might opt for an alternative route.
Therefore, the damp scent from freshly dug soil can make them alert and possibly change their route.
While it’s a probabilistic matter, Chen Wen didn’t want to gamble on it.
He dug a shallow pit, using nearby wood to set a trigger inside, cautiously placed the boar snare and supported it in place.
Slowly lifting his foot, the trigger immediately tightened.
Now, anything triggering it would activate the mechanism, tightening the rope, snapping the tree upright, and firmly binding whatever triggered the trap!
Perfect!
Chen Wen thought, cautiously refilling the soil to conceal the trap’s traces.
Additionally, he scattered some nuts found in the forest around.
These nuts are food for wild boars and won’t alert them; rather, they entice boars to linger around.
Increasing their likelihood of stepping into the trap.
