Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 608: The Way to Recover Power (2)
Chapter 608 -380: The Way to Recover Power (2)
“How many types of Sequences have you discovered so far?”
“I’m sorry, I can’t tell you because I don’t know either. That’s beyond my clearance level.”
“How do you increase your Extraordinary Power? Or rather, how do you advance your Sequence?” This was Han Ning’s most pressing question.
“You… you don’t know how to advance, yet you’re this powerful.”
The woman stared at Han Ning, her face full of astonishment.
She quickly realized she had overstepped and hurried to answer, “You enhance your Spiritual Power and Spiritual Energy. When both are close to their saturation point, you consume a Sequence Potion to improve your Talent and obtain stronger abilities.”
“Most of the materials for enhancing Spiritual Power and Spiritual Energy, as well as for making potions, come from ruins.”
“Your Foreign Affairs Team, or some of those evil organizations, should have some in stock, right?” Han Ning watched her with a faint, knowing smile.
The woman lowered her head and said nothing.
“I can let you go, but you have to agree to a few conditions,” Han Ning said calmly.
The woman still said nothing. She seemed to be imagining just how outrageous Han Ning’s conditions would be.
“After you leave, find a way to get me some materials for enhancing Spiritual Power and Spiritual Energy, either from your unit or somewhere else. Is that a problem?”
Han Ning watched her calmly, a strand of dark red electrical light flashing through his deep eyes.
“That wouldn’t be considered betraying your organization, would it?”
The woman trembled and gritted her teeth. “No problem.”
“Second, you cannot reveal any of my secrets to anyone, nor can you even think about harming me. Otherwise, you will die from the backlash of your Sequence.”
As Han Ning spoke, he tried to use his Spiritual Power to outline a Spiritual Contract.
WHOOSH…
In the real world, pale blue flames swirled, and a contract made entirely of fire materialized between them.
“If you have no problem with this, then invest your Spiritual Power into it and sign the contract with me.”
“Demon… You’re a Demon!”
The moment she saw the Flame contract, the woman’s face turned deathly pale.
“A Demon? Would a Demon sign such a gentle contract with you?”
Han Ning sneered disdainfully.
The woman paused, slightly taken aback. Thinking it over, she realized the man’s demands weren’t actually that outrageous.
He hadn’t asked her to leak classified information, or do anything too extreme, nor did he covet her body or soul…
She hesitated for a few seconds, but under Han Ning’s constant urging, she finally projected a faint wisp of Spiritual Power. The two successfully formed the contract.
“Very good. What’s your name?” Han Ning smiled faintly, picked up the dagger from the ground, and handed it to the woman.
“Xie… Xie Mingke.”
“Besides your identity with the Foreign Affairs Team, what is your social identity?”
“A university teacher.”
“Interesting. Let’s exchange contact information. It’ll be more convenient for us to stay in touch.”
“Mm…”
…
After adding Xie Mingke’s contact information, Han Ning quietly watched her leave.
‘This woman has an official status. Killing her would undoubtedly bring endless trouble. Cooperating with her is the best approach.’
“Woof~”
Frost Jade lay on its back in front of Han Ning, tongue lolling out, looking at him pitifully.
The young Frost Jade thought it had done something wrong to make its master angry.
“You did your best today, but from now on, I’m going to intensify your training.”
Han Ning reached out, stroked Frost Jade’s fluffy belly a few times, and booped its little nose.
“Woof!”
Frost Jade rolled over into a sitting position with a happy rumble, licking his palm nonstop as its tail wagged cheerfully.
…
By the time he returned to the memorial hall at Li Lu’s home, the sky was already growing light.
Han Ning made an excuse, said goodbye to Li Lu’s family, and returned to his residence.
For the rest of the day, he went from one large pet market to another in Ludao City, trying to find any sign of his other little companions.
But the results were disappointing. He didn’t sense a single familiar Spiritual Fluctuation.
At night, he trained Frost Jade just as he had once trained Yin Yi and Egg Pancake.
He helped it improve its Skill Level with its Soul Techniques and comprehensively enhanced its skills in all areas.
Although Frost Jade had good comprehension and was quite smart, their strength progression was still a bit slow due to the lack of Spiritual Materials for replenishment.
‘Why haven’t I heard from Xie Mingke yet? Don’t tell me she got caught making a move by her superiors?’
That night, after several hours of training, Han Ning returned to his rented apartment and was just about to send a reminder to the beautiful woman.
Suddenly, a message appeared on his phone screen.
“Mr. Han, how should I find you?”
On the messaging app, a contact with an elegant, traditional-style character as their profile picture sent him a message.
“I’ll come to you,” Han Ning replied.
“Okay. Then… let’s meet at 22:30 at the Lanyu Cafe on Luda University Student Street.”
“Alright, I got it.”
Han Ning glanced at the time: 21:47.
Luda University Student Street was in another district, and it would take some time to get there. He quickly got his things together and headed out.
…
Thirty minutes later, Han Ning was walking down the bustling university student street.
He scanned the youthful faces passing by in twos and threes, a slightly dazed expression on his face.
‘Once upon a time, I was one of them. If I hadn’t accidentally crossed over to the Purple Crystal World, I might be working now, or still pursuing a master’s degree at some university, just like these students.’
Han Ning had only just arrived at their meeting spot when a crisp, pleasant voice called out from behind him, “Han Ning?”
He looked up.
She was wearing a slim-fitting, light green, modern-style Hanfu. Her jet-black hair was tied in a bun, and a pair of non-prescription glasses rested on her delicate nose…
The Xie Mingke before him no longer had the youthful glamour of last night. She now had a more scholarly air, looking much more like a university teacher.
“Teacher Xie, good evening.”
‘Doing business with a beautiful woman really does lift one’s spirits, especially when my previous business partners were mostly bizarre creatures like Octopus Heads and elephant heads.’
‘He looks so young, but he seems to be full of stories.’
Xie Mingke had already noticed the wistful look on Han Ning’s face, and her curiosity about this mysterious man grew.
The two walked into the cafe side by side. After ordering a cold drink, Xie Mingke subconsciously scanned their surroundings, deliberately avoiding the cameras. She then took an exquisite little gift box out of her designer handbag and opened it.
Inside the box lay three vials of transparent liquid, each the size of an oral supplement bottle.
“This is concentrated Spiritual Energy Liquid. Long-term use can increase your Spiritual Energy limit. Most members of the Foreign Affairs Team use this.”
“Let me see.”
Han Ning picked up a bottle of the Spiritual Energy Liquid and first tried to summon his panel to absorb the Energy inside.
[BEEP~]
[Energy +0.05]
[Energy Value too low. Estimated to reach minimum restart standard after total Energy exceeds 5 points.]
The notification appeared three times before vanishing without a trace, as if it were running out of power.
And from Xie Mingke’s perspective:
Han Ning was simply twirling the glass vial with his slender fingers. Under his calm gaze, the Spiritual Energy Liquid inside flickered with a faint fluorescent light and quickly disappeared.
“Not bad. I can feel the Spiritual Energy contained within, but… it’s too little. Is there no way to get more?”
Han Ning put down the empty vial. Instead of immediately continuing to absorb, he looked at Xie Mingke.
Xie Mingke lowered her head slightly and spoke in a hushed voice:
“This… this is already my supply for half a month. I can’t get you any more Spiritual Energy Liquid for now. As for Spiritual Liquid, I can only claim it once a month, and I’ve already used mine.”
“When do you guys explore ruins? Can you take me with you? Or when you’re destroying some evil organization, give me a call. We can cooperate.”
‘0.15 Energy every half a month? It’ll take forever to save up 5 points.’
‘Not to mention, all of this would have to be fed to the panel. He could go without, but Frost Jade and Egg Pancake also need some Energy for their daily upkeep.’
“Within the Tangge Federation, all Extraordinary Beings must join the Foreign Affairs Team or one of its subordinate departments. Any unregistered Extraordinary Beings are considered part of an evil organization. Once discovered, they are either expelled from the country, forced to join the Foreign Affairs Team, or, in serious cases, killed on sight.”
Xie Mingke watched Han Ning’s expression and cautiously suggested, “How about… you join us? I can be your sponsor.”
“No.”
