Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 270 - 202: Such a High Income

  • Next Chapter

Jia Ru and Shen Ming brought the dishes to the table. Once the family was seated, Shen Ming said to Jia Lian, "Looks like my brother-in-law is doing well for himself. You guys even bought a Mercedes."

The table fell silent in an instant. Jia Lian, who had been talking to Jia Ru, turned her head and said, "With his paltry salary? No way he could afford a Mercedes."

Before she could finish, Shen Ming cut in, "You’re kidding. Don’t tell me Minmin bought it?"

He knew Shen Meng too well. Plus, she used to send money home every month, so the family had a good idea of her income. There was no way she could afford a Mercedes, so it never even crossed Shen Ming’s mind that the car might belong to his own daughter.

Wu Min’s expression immediately soured. The question brought back unpleasant memories. That Mercedes made her own little hot hatch feel completely inadequate every time she drove it.

Jia Lian laughed. "How could it be our Minmin’s? It’s Meng Meng’s car. Her boyfriend bought it for her."

CLATTER—Shen Ming’s and Jia Ru’s chopsticks fell to the floor in unison.

His expression was a complicated, unreadable mix. "Meng Meng has a boyfriend? Why didn’t she tell your mother and me?"

The Mercedes was suddenly unimportant. Their daughter was in a relationship. This left the two of them, who doted on their daughter, with a sudden emptiness in their hearts, as if a treasure they had cherished for years had been stolen by some petty thief.

Shen Meng had planned on finding the right time to tell them during this visit, but she never expected the outspoken Jia Lian to blurt it out during dinner.

She said in a low voice, "It only happened recently. I was planning on telling you both now that I’m back."

Shen Ming was getting extremely anxious. His daughter was dating someone who could buy her a Mercedes. He couldn’t help but wonder what kind of person, and what age, could afford a car like that, and his mind instantly jumped to all sorts of unsavory scenarios. He had wanted to ask her about it in private, but now he couldn’t stop himself from blurting out, "How old is he?"

"Twenty-four."

Shen Ming finally let out a sigh of relief. ’Okay, at least he’s not some old man.’ He figured the boy must be a rich kid. As long as it wasn’t an older man, he felt a little better. He decided he’d find some time later to ask her more about it properly. With Jia Lian and Wu Min present, it wasn’t convenient to keep discussing their family’s private affairs.

Jia Lian, of course, knew what was on her brother-in-law’s mind. She tried to console him, "Don’t worry. I’ll have Meng Meng bring her boyfriend over to meet me soon. I’ll help you vet him first and see what the kid is like. Minmin says he’s pretty handsome."

Her own impression of Yang Hui had actually improved. Seeing how generous he was with Shen Meng, it seemed he wasn’t the person Wu Min had described—someone who just used a fancy watch to win Shen Meng over, only to mooch off her and even make her buy him designer bags.

Wu Min, who had no filter whatsoever, blurted out, "Uncle, Yang Hui is really handsome. He just doesn’t like to pay for meals, hehe."

Shen Meng shot her a glare and kicked her under the table. ’She’ll say anything, won’t she?’

Shen Ming faltered for a moment, then said, "If he’s really a good person, it doesn’t matter who pays for meals when you’re a couple. Meng Meng, all that money you sent home before? Your mother saved it all for you. If you’re short on cash, just have her transfer it to you. I can chip in a little more, too."

Wu Min laughed. "Uncle, you don’t have to worry about that. Shen Meng’s income is super high now. I’m the one who’s broke. It’s a shame my parents won’t give me any spending money."

Jia Lian shot her a look. "Just eat your food. You’re talking nonsense."

Shen Ming chuckled. "Minmin is just being modest. She’s so talented and started working before Meng Meng, so her job must be better."

Wu Min sighed. "What’s the point of working hard? It’s better to be lucky. Shen Meng just switched jobs, and her base salary is 22,000 a month. I could never hope to catch up to that."

Shen Ming and Jia Ru both turned to look at Shen Meng, their eyes filled with disbelief. "How could your salary be that high?"

’He remembered asking about her income just a month ago. Her base salary was something like 6,000, and with commission from livestream sales, she made a little over 10,000 a month.’

The couple knew what Shen Meng’s job entailed. They weren’t against livestream e-commerce, but they were against the scammy kind of streams that Tang Bin ran. They’d heard he sold Terracotta Warriors during his streams—it was utterly absurd, and what was even more absurd was that he actually managed to scam people out of their money.

Shen Meng knew her parents were looking for confirmation, so she nodded. "Dad, Mom, I just switched jobs. The pay is really good, so... you don’t have to sell that liquor anymore."

Wu Min chimed in from the side, "Her monthly housing fund contribution is almost 5,000. After a year of work, she’ll practically be able to buy a house. Tell me that’s not infuriating."

It was only then that Shen Ming and Jia Ru realized their daughter had truly landed an excellent job. They were ecstatic and no longer minded Wu Min’s comments. Jia Lian, on the other hand, gave her daughter a light smack. "What kind of thing is that to say? You should be happy that Meng Meng’s income is so high. What’s so infuriating about it?"

"I *am* happy for her! Can’t I also be mad for my own sake? I work myself to the bone every month for a pathetic salary, and her *base pay* is 22,000, and she gets a bonus on top of that! Oh, right, Shen Meng, what’s your commission rate now?"

The whole family turned to look at Shen Meng again. She had no choice but to answer, "Two percent of the team’s sales revenue."

"Argh! I’m going to die of jealousy! It’s infuriating! So, so infuriating!"

Wu Min’s reaction was a bit over the top, but thankfully, everyone in the family was used to her personality and her obnoxious mouth.

Jia Lian tugged at her again. "Eat your dinner. Don’t let this wonderful meal your aunt cooked go to waste."

But Wu Min wasn’t done. She gestured wildly with her hands, a look of utter frustration on her face. "Do you guys know? Shen Meng’s stream yesterday made 4.1 million in sales. Based on her commission rate, that means she earned 82,000 in commission from that single stream. I’m seriously going to die of jealousy."

Gasp! 82,000... To this family, that was a small fortune. Shen Ming hadn’t even saved that much in his entire life—mainly because his income was too low to put anything aside.
