Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 255 - 197: Hot Hatch (3)
Shen Meng hadn’t seen her message at all; otherwise, she would have at least sent her congratulations. She couldn’t understand how Yang Hui had so much energy. They had agreed she would take half a day off, but things got out of hand. She was forced to take another half-day, meaning she wouldn’t be going into the office at all today.
By now, Shen Meng’s fingers were too weak to count what round it was. She was spread-eagled, with Yang Hui grasping her delicate feet and pulling her legs straight out to the sides.
The phone rang right at that moment. She wanted to ignore it, but a glance showed it was her cousin, Wu Min. She had no idea why she would be calling at this hour. Yang Hui slowed his rhythm slightly, letting her answer the phone.
"Shen Meng, guess what I’m doing?"
Already feeling weak, Shen Meng rolled her eyes at Wu Min’s words. "Get to the point."
"Huh? Shen Meng, what’s going on with you? What’s that noise in the background?"
Shen Meng quickly covered the phone’s microphone with her hand. "If you have something to say, spit it out."
Wu Min giggled. "Didn’t you see the picture I sent? I bought a Golf, and I’m driving it right now."
’She’s talking on the phone while driving?’ Shen Meng let out a long "Oh..." It felt a little strange. She then blushed and said, "Drive safely."
Something seemed off with Shen Meng today. Puzzled, Wu Min asked, "Are you with Yang Hui? What are you two doing?"
Shen Meng replied weakly, "Driving... Ah—" and then hung up.
Yang Hui was amused. He let go of her ankles and had her lie on her stomach. He whispered in her ear, "I’ll teach you how to drive. A rear-wheel-drive car."
Wu Min felt deflated when she didn’t detect any envy in Shen Meng’s voice.
’Hmph, my cousin must be pretending. She’s obviously upset; otherwise, why would she sound so weak and hoarse? She must have seen the picture of my Golf. That hot hatch must have really gotten to her.’
Yang Hui ordered a restorative dinner for Shen Meng, delivered to their room. After they ate, he took her to a wide, open road with little traffic so she could get some practice. To his surprise, Shen Meng had an excellent feel for the car and became quite skilled after just a few laps. She even managed to parallel park, something many female drivers hate, which made Yang Hui swear he would never look down on female drivers again.
In the end, Shen Meng drove the car to the entrance of Shunyuan District. She offered to drive him home, but he refused. He was worried she wasn’t experienced enough, and with poor visibility at night, it was better for her to drive as little as possible.
Yang Hui hailed a cab and left, while Shen Meng slowly and carefully drove into the district. Shunyuan was a resettlement community with little green space, and its parking spots were almost all on the street. Because Shen Meng hadn’t known Yang Hui would buy her a car so soon, she hadn’t rented a parking space. Now that she was back, she had to find an unclaimed spot. She searched for a long time but couldn’t find one. ’Sigh, buying a car is just asking for trouble. I’d rather take the subway.’
After circling a few times with no luck, she suddenly saw a white Golf in a roadside spot. It looked just like the one in the photo her cousin, Wu Min, had sent. A new car, and a white Golf—it had to be hers.
So, Shen Meng parked her Mercedes C260L horizontally in front of the Golf. This way, she wouldn’t block other vehicles from passing. She’d just leave it there for now and go to the property management office tomorrow to see if she could rent a space.
Once that was all taken care of, she grabbed her small purse and went upstairs. She had just stepped into the entryway to change her shoes when she heard Wu Min’s loud voice call from inside, "Shen Meng, you’ve eaten, right?"
Jia Lian also came out from inside. "Meng Meng, if you haven’t eaten, I’ll go make you something right now."
"No need, Auntie. I ate before I came back."
"You sound so drained today, dear. Was work tiring?"
"No, no." ’It had nothing to do with work, and everything to do with taking the day off. Three rounds in one afternoon really drained my vitality.’
Just then, Wu Min said, "Shen Meng, since we’re free tonight, how about I drive you guys down to Riverside Avenue for a spin? We can check out the river view."
Shen Meng was tired and wanted to rest early, but she saw that Jia Lian seemed tempted. It was true; her aunt managed the household, and her uncle worked out of town year-round. Even when he came back, he probably didn’t have time to take her out. Wu Min’s suggestion to see the river view might have been a wish her aunt had cherished for a long time.
Not wanting to spoil her aunt’s enthusiasm, she changed back into her flat shoes and waited for the two of them to go downstairs together.
Wu Min walked ahead, key fob in hand, telling Jia Lian all about how great her Golf’s handling was and how stable the chassis felt. She would occasionally turn back to Shen Meng and say, "Shen Meng, I think you should talk to Yang Hui. Maybe he can just get you a Golf, too. It’s really a great car for a girl to drive."
Shen Meng didn’t know what to say. The car was already bought. If she had known beforehand that Yang Hui was going to buy her a car, and a Mercedes at that, she might have actually listened to her cousin’s advice and settled for a Golf. But it was too late to say anything now.
"Oh, come on—"
Wu Min cried out, "Who’s so inconsiderate, parking their car right in front of mine?"
Shen Meng was just about to say that she was the one who’d parked there, but Wu Min was already jogging over. She wanted to see if the owner had left a phone number so she could call them to move their car.
Jia Lian also hurried to catch up. As they got closer, they heard Wu Min say angrily, "Whose car is this? They blocked me in and didn’t even leave a number."
The most infuriating part was that she was about to call the traffic service to have them contact the owner, but the car didn’t even have a license plate. It looked like a brand-new car, too. Jia Lian walked a circle around the Mercedes C260L and said, "Minmin, this car is gorgeous."
Wu Min said bitterly, "Of course it’s gorgeous, it’s a Mercedes! It’s way nicer than my car. This is what I’ll work towards. I’ll aim to make this my next car."
Hearing this, Jia Lian said, "Oh, give me a break. Worry about paying off the three-year loan on your Golf first."
