Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 216 - 215: Have You Rested Enough?
Teacher Hu didn’t ask for too many details; he just sent the supplies over.
He mused, "I suppose so."
Sheng Yue raised the Soul Beast Cover.
A pale blue barrier enveloped the members of Team 15.
Yin Jiu swished its tail, its big eyes staring pleadingly at Jian Yu.
It could sense Jian Yu’s erratic heartbeat. "Don’t be scared, baby. I can fight. My master and I are both really good fighters."
"Mm." Jian Yu hugged Yin Jiu tightly, her long eyelashes fluttering.
The situation outside was clear, unlike last night when they couldn’t see a thing.
The Helmet Insects’ jet-black carapaces looked both stout and hard. Each one emanated a suffocating sense of urgency.
Their ferocious heads alone were as large as ten watermelons put together.
The Mutant Beasts yesterday were also high-Level, but as Mutant Beasts with the Healing Attribute, they had little Attack Power. If you hit a vital spot, you could kill them quickly.
The Helmet Insects before them were not only high-Level, but also numerous. They were a dense, swarming mass. Besides their strong Defense Attribute, their enormous, sharp-toothed maws went CHOMP CHOMP, suggesting their Attack Power was definitely not to be underestimated.
The Emperor Wolf Star People shrieked in terror as they fled, but they still didn’t forget to protect the girl in their midst.
The distance was closing.
They looked like they were fleeing in a blind panic, but in reality, their trajectory never deviated from Jian Yu’s team.
Wang Hu’s breathing gradually steadied. "And here we were, running in circles earlier. To think they were really following us on purpose."
Zhang Qin’s scalp tingled. "Do we really have to fight? I feel like they could just wear us down and kill us."
Jian Yu thought so too. Her energy was depleted far too easily.
Zhang Ziyue squeezed her younger sister’s hand.
Yan Xu sighed. "They can’t win, but they can definitely escape. They’d have no problem chasing us until dark. And no one can be sure if the Helmet Insects will keep chasing. They have better stamina than we do. If they really catch up to us, we’ll be the ones worn down and killed."
Teacher Hu cleared his throat. "None of that defeatist talk."
Jian Yu turned her head to look at Sheng Yue. "Are you confident?"
Yin Jiu’s head swam. ’Baby’s voice is so soft, it sounds like she’s being coy.’
Yin Jiu snorted a couple of times. ’Master, don’t back down! I feel like my old injuries are completely healed. Facing them now will be no problem at all.’
Sheng Yue had experienced much bigger scenes than this, so he wasn’t panicking.
He looked into Jian Yu’s large, round, clear eyes and said in a husky voice, "I am."
Jian Yu was getting a little tired from holding Yin Jiu.
’A little gas canister. Cute, but heavy.’
Jian Yu held Yin Jiu with her left arm and stretched out her right hand, wanting to shake it a bit to relieve the discomfort.
Yin Jiu got excited. ’A handshake, Master! Baby is cheering you on!’
Sheng Yue’s lips tightened as he decisively took her hand.
Jian Yu froze for a moment, looking up in confusion.
Sheng Yue’s ears turned red, a blush creeping across his fair face. His aloof expression was gone.
Jian Yu grabbed his hand back, playing with his fingers, turning them over and over.
His breathing grew heavier in her ear, and Jian Yu’s gaze drifted.
The man’s shoulders were straight and broad, his sleek waist cinched by a belt, revealing a layer of thin yet firm abdominal muscles that were now rising and falling slightly with his restrained, heavy breaths.
Jian Yu didn’t have time to admire the view.
In just a dozen seconds, the people from Emperor Wolf Star Academy caught up.
"Is this how the top student of Weis Lan Academy behaves?"
"How disgusting. To think a selfish creature like that is valued by the Alliance."
"You obviously saw us! Why won’t you help us when we’re about to die?!"
They all chattered at once, cursing nonstop.
Jian Yu’s fingers twitched slightly.
A wisp of formless, colorless black smoke plunged into the ground, left the protective barrier, and followed her command to entangle the few people who had just spoken.
Their Instant Teleportation speed visibly slowed.
"Run! You drank the accelerator, why are you still so slow?"
Seeing the Helmet Insects about to catch up, the few people Jian Yu had ensnared looked panicked yet vicious. They grabbed the people in front of them and threw them backward, one after another.
"AHH!"
Overlapping, blood-curdling screams tore through the sky.
The men who had been thrown behind were caught by the swarm of insects.
Their enormous, pointed maws opened to tear, rip, and devour.
Fresh blood sprayed everywhere.
Yan Xu frowned.
’Could the secret potion have expired?’
Before he could react, the swarm of insects pounced on the others.
With a crush of their hard shells, several people were flattened.
Zhang Qin swallowed hard. "Everyone, we can’t do close-quarters combat later. These big boys are too strong."
No one responded to Zhang Qin’s attempt at humor.
After seeing one of the Emperor Wolf Star people try to block with his arm, only to have the entire limb bitten off along with half his shoulder, everyone felt their hearts leap into their throats.
Wang Hu hadn’t expected a Mutant Beast with a Defense Attribute to have such high Attack Power. "That’s terrifying. Such an abyssal maw."
A few "CRUNCH" sounds of chewing followed, making their hair stand on end.
In the blink of an eye, only seven of the dozen or so people were left.
Lu Qi wanted to run again. "Maybe they haven’t seen us. Shouldn’t we just run?"
Jiang Fei shot him down. "We’ll run into them sooner or later, unless we leave this place today."
Lu Yi watched, unable to bear it. "Shouldn’t we save that girl? She looks so scared she can’t even move."
Yan Xu sneered.
"Counterattack! Quickly, counterattack! Protect Miss Yan Ying!" the survivors roared.
They no longer had the luxury of trying to drag Jian Yu’s team down with them. They frantically fired their guns, anesthetic needles, and Poison Beast Needles.
"CRACKLE! POP! POP!"
A large portion of them died.
But the remaining high-Level ones were completely unharmed.
The bullets and needles couldn’t penetrate. They were either knocked away by the Helmet Insects’ sharp heads or hit uselessly against the beetles’ rock-hard, bulky shells.
It was like trying to tickle them; they didn’t even produce a spark.
The needles were either snapped in half or sent flying.
Lu Yi was no longer soft-hearted. "She’s the Planet Master’s daughter? That violent and arrogant Yan Ying?"
Yan Yi nodded. "That’s her. Yan Yu is her cousin."
Jian Yu tried to find a vital point.
Wang Hu observed for a long time but couldn’t find one. "Their defense is simply heaven-defying. I can’t find any weaknesses at all."
At a distance of less than two hundred meters, another one of the seven people died a horrible death protecting that girl, Yan Ying.
The few who remained desperately protected Yan Ying as they sprinted toward Jian Yu’s team.
"Help! Save us!" they cried out hoarsely.
Lu Qi’s face was deathly pale.
Everyone urgently activated their energy shield devices, but then, realizing they were still inside a translucent blue curtain of light, they quickly deactivated them to avoid excessive energy consumption.
Unable to break into Sheng Yue’s protective cover, Yan Ying and her group scrambled and rolled to hide behind it.
Everyone: "..."
It was expected, but they were still furious.
The Helmet Insects didn’t retreat just because of the Soul Beast Barrier’s presence.
They were still clumsy and cumbersome, but now they revealed an even more frenzied side.
"THUD! BANG! BANG! THUD!"
Their big, watermelon-like heads slammed against it madly.
The Soul Beast’s glowing ring flickered and trembled slightly.
Wang Hu hated them. "Are they blind? Can’t they see Yan Ying’s group is behind us?"
The hungry Helmet Insects stared fixedly at the prey inside the Soul Beast Cover, unmoved.
Wang Hu was out of ideas.
Sheng Yue was expressionless, cold and detached. "Have you rested enough?"
Lu Qi’s voice trembled. "President, they look really agitated."
Teacher Hu beamed. "You all need the training. Don’t worry, if you really can’t hold on, the President will step in to save you."
There was no other way; they had to bite the bullet and go.
One by one, their teammates were let out.
When it was Jian Yu’s turn, she was about to step forward when Sheng Yue pulled her back.
Sheng Yue’s eyes were fixed on the outside, and Yin Jiu was also ready to strike at any moment.
Teacher Hu continued to beam. "The Healer doesn’t need to go."
