Chapter 269: Chapter 163: How Is This Any Different from a Suicide Mission?
The Green Crystal Bracelet continued to glow, constantly maintaining its barrier by consuming Chen Chong’s Spiritual Power.
Caught between two behemoths, Chen Chong clutched the Tiger Striped Dog, continuously using his Identification Skill to read everything he could about them.
From time to time, a vine would sweep past. Fortunately, Chen Chong wasn’t focusing all his attention on his Identification Skill. Otherwise, even with the barrier masking his aura and Perception, being physically touched by a vine would have exposed him instantly.
The more he identified and observed, the more horrified Chen Chong became of these two Extraordinary Creatures.
The Primitive Jungle was home to a total of four Extraordinary Creatures.
The Unihorn Catfish was A-, the Blood-tooth Python was A-Level, and the remaining two—the Stone Claw Eagle and the Bloodthirsty Vine King—were both A+ Class.
The Bloodthirsty Vine King, in particular, was just a hair’s breadth away from reaching S-Class.
Their strength was leagues beyond that of the Unihorn Catfish and the others.
Not only did they have no obvious weaknesses, but their abilities were also perfectly suited to them, making them adept at both offense and defense.
Forget the Bloodthirsty Vine King; Chen Chong wasn’t even fully confident he could kill the Stone Claw Eagle in its current, heavily injured and weakened state.
It seemed that even among Extraordinary Creatures of the same rank, a small difference in their classification resulted in a vast disparity in power.
’If A+ Class Extraordinary Creatures are this troublesome, I can’t even begin to imagine how terrifying an S-Class one would be.’
Still, despite the pressure of facing these two Extraordinary Creatures, Chen Chong knew that he would eventually have to confront them head-on—for the school’s safety, and for the rich rewards that came with slaying them.
’Gathering more information about them is better than going in blind.’
’An opportunity to observe them this closely is incredibly rare. I can’t let it go to waste...’
「Meanwhile, above the abyss.」
Through the combined efforts of Xu Jun, Wang Biao, and Qi Zhen, the vine was blasted to smithereens.
It was merely an offshoot from the Bloodthirsty Vine King’s main body. Even if it was far stronger than the offshoots found within Parasites, it couldn’t possibly be a match for two A-Level Transcendents.
The only reason they had struggled earlier was because they had been caught completely off guard by the surprise attack.
In a direct confrontation, it posed no threat at all...
Gazing down into the bottomless, pitch-black chasm, the three of them wore extremely grim expressions.
"Sir has fallen into the abyss! We have to go down and find him!"
"But it’s pitch-black down there, and we don’t have any Lighting Stones. Even if we go down, we’ll hardly be able to move."
"Even so, we can’t just abandon Sir! We have to go down, no matter the risk!"
"Maybe... I have an idea."
Wang Biao and Qi Zhen both turned to look at Xu Jun.
Xu Jun had kept his scent-tracking ability active the entire time. From the chasm’s edge, he could smell both Chen Chong and the Tiger Striped Dog.
Although the three of them were blind in the dark, by relying on his scent-tracking ability, they could use their noses instead of their eyes to follow Chen Chong’s trail.
Xu Jun firmly believed that his Brother Chong couldn’t have died so easily.
His strength far surpassed their own, and his Rock Body Transformation ability alone could negate the vast majority of damage.
If he got lucky and managed to land on a rock outcropping on his way down, he might have avoided falling all the way to the bottom.
But even if he had survived, he still hadn’t climbed back up. Xu Jun worried he had met with some disaster below, or had run into other trouble.
’So, we... have to go down!’
After hearing Xu Jun’s plan, Qi Zhen and Wang Biao agreed at once without hesitation.
Xu Jun leaped down first, his body landing heavily on a rocky outcropping more than five meters below.
Wang Biao and Qi Zhen followed close behind.
They encountered their first problem long before they reached the bottom of the abyss.
Near the top of the abyss, some unknown, faintly glowing minerals had provided a small degree of visibility.
But the farther down they went, the scarcer these minerals became, replaced by ordinary rock. The light grew dimmer until it was so dark they couldn’t see their hands in front of their faces.
While Xu Jun could use his scent tracking to pinpoint Chen Chong’s location, he couldn’t smell the protruding rocks on the chasm walls that they needed to land on.
At that moment, Wang Biao stepped forward.
"I have a stone-throwing technique. It can be used for long-range attacks, but I can also use it to pinpoint locations by sound."
After saying this, he slammed a fist against the rock wall, sending countless fragments showering down.
He scooped up a handful and tossed them into the darkness.
In the dead silence, the sound of the stones striking unseen objects was incessant.
The ones that didn’t hit anything simply plummeted into the depths of the abyss.
"There’s an outcropping three meters ahead, seven meters down."
The moment the words left his mouth, Wang Biao leaped.
Three seconds later, a dull thud echoed from below. He had made it.
Though unable to see, he had used the echoes of the striking stones to predict the distance and land steadily on the platform.
Without a word, Qi Zhen followed close behind, leaping out into the void.
For a pure Body Cultivator like him, control over his own body was already at the pinnacle of perfection.
He was able to make the jump with precision, not just because Wang Biao had already scouted the location of the next outcropping.
Even if he were to misjudge and fall, he was confident his incredibly powerful body would allow him to survive.
Of course, whether or not he would be injured was another matter entirely...
But while Wang Biao and Qi Zhen each had their own unique skills, Xu Jun did not.
Although he was a Transcendent, his strength was far inferior to the other two, and his physical control hadn’t reached the same level of mastery as Qi Zhen’s.
He would find the jump Wang Biao described difficult even if he could see; attempting it while practically blind was another level of challenge entirely.
