Chapter 203: Chapter 135: Plan Step 1! Take Over the Gymnasium! The Fighting Club’s Bountiful Inheritance
This was all due to the Blood-tooth Python incident. It had decimated their club of several dozen members, and even Fan Kai had been devoured by the serpent.
If they hadn’t run fast enough, they likely would have been left behind in the Sky Pit forever...
About a dozen figures were crammed into the lounge. Even though it was past midnight, most of them hadn’t closed their eyes, instead just staring blankly at one another. Some, unable to hold out any longer, had lowered their heads and dozed off.
Normally, aside from the members on guard duty, the rest would have returned to the dorms to sleep long ago.
But things weren’t what they used to be. They didn’t dare go back...
The reason was simple: ever since their return, multiple groups had tried to force their way into the gymnasium, sparking clashes with the Fighting Club.
To protect their resources, they had been standing guard here around the clock, not even daring to leave at night. Their hands constantly gripped knives and clubs.
Every one of them had bruises and bloody scratches on their faces and bodies.
Some of the injuries were from the Celestial Pit, but most were the result of fighting off intruders...
"We can’t go on like this. Ever since Brother Kai died and word spread that the Fighting Club was all but wiped out, we’ve had seven or eight groups show up in just a single day and night. If this keeps up, forget going out for resources—we’ll be lucky if we can even hold this place."
Once one person spoke up, it was as if a floodgate had opened, and the others began to complain one after another.
"Yeah. We’re lucky the groups so far have been small, mostly a dozen or so people, so we can still fight them off. But if a group of twenty or thirty shows up, we won’t stand a chance."
"That’s not even the worst part. If the Survival Association decides they want this place, our only option will be to run for our lives."
"Damn it! If Brother Kai and the others were still here, these bastards wouldn’t dare get so brazen! Barging in here trying to plunder our resources!"
"Things aren’t what they used to be. The gymnasium has always been prime territory on campus. No one dared to mess with us before because we had the numbers. But now, our club has all but fallen apart, and we’ve pissed off plenty of people in the past. It’s only natural they’d kick us while we’re down."
"If we really can’t hold on... let’s just retreat. There’s no way the dozen of us can defend this place. If we pull out, we might be able to survive as a small, independent squad. If we stay, we’ll either be beaten to death or exhausted to death."
"Retreat? How can we? Half a month’s worth of construction, our livestock, and our crops are all here. If we leave now, it’ll be a devastating loss!"
"Yeah, abandoning all these resources would just be handing them over to someone else on a silver platter."
"I understand all that, but the bottom line is, we can’t defend it. Sigh..."
They couldn’t defend it, yet they were too unwilling to retreat.
They had been so terrified by the Blood-tooth Python in the Sky Pit that they’d fled back to the school, practically wetting themselves. Now, they had to face endless squads trying to plunder their resources.
The remaining members of the Fighting Club felt utterly suffocated, like a fire was raging inside them with no release.
The room fell silent, and for a moment, no one spoke...
BANG—
Just then, the sound of pounding echoed through the quiet gymnasium.
Everyone snapped their heads up.
"Fuck!"
"In the middle of the fucking night, someone still dares to come knocking? They’re asking for it!"
Already simmering with pent-up rage and nowhere to vent it, the dozen or so men became instantly furious upon hearing someone pounding on the door this late. They snatched up their weapons and charged menacingly toward the gymnasium entrance. ℯℯ𝘭.
"Who’s the blind bastard looking for a death wish? How dare you cause trouble on the Fighting Club’s turf! You really think we don’t have the guts to kill people?"
"Today, we’re going to cut every last one of you down..."
Amid the angry shouts, the main door was yanked open.
Before his shouts had even faded, the Fighting Club member leading the charge froze on the spot.
The night was dark, but in the hazy moonlight, they could still make out the scene outside...
A huge, dark mass of figures stood there—seventy or eighty people at the very least.
The Fighting Club members were stunned. Their first thought was, ’The Survival Association is attacking?’
But when they looked closer, they realized it wasn’t the Survival Association. Seeing who it actually was, however, left them even more bewildered.
’In the crowd at the front was... Zhong Fang? Isn’t that the leader of the Fishing Club? Wait, is that Ning Yu? Why is that heavy hitter from the Swordsmanship Club here too? And looking one last time... Chen Chong is here too! What the hell is going on!? How did these major school factions and figures suddenly team up? All just to take over our Fighting Club’s one gymnasium? That seems like overkill! Forget our sorry remnant of a group; even at the Fighting Club’s peak, there would have been no reason for all these people to mobilize their full forces for a joint attack, right?’
The men stared at each other, their faces blank with confusion. Not a single one of the tough words that had been on the tips of their tongues a moment ago could be uttered now.
"Well now, looks like you were planning to fight?"
Xu Jun grinned as he eyed the blades and clubs in their hands. In a fluid motion, he swung the Snakebone Giant Axe off his back and into his grip.
The massive axe head glinted coldly in the moonlight, sending a shiver down the spine of everyone watching.
"Wait, don’t attack! We didn’t mean to start a conflict!"
The Fighting Club members were scared out of their wits. They immediately began to plead, throwing all their weapons to the ground.
It was no joke; they weren’t idiots.
They wouldn’t have been afraid if it were one of those small campus squads of a few, or even a dozen, people coming to plunder their resources.
Even against a group of twenty, they could have put up a decent fight with their superior combat skills.
But now, they were facing a force of seventy or eighty people!
A group that included heavy hitters like Chen Chong and Ning Yu.
Not to mention forty or fifty of the Fishing Club’s tough-as-nails members, who fought like absolute madmen.
If a real fight broke out, they’d be lucky to escape with their lives, let alone avoid being beaten to a pulp!
