Chapter 156: Chapter 156: King of the North

[Combat Style Comparison... Knowledge Inclination Comparison... Dungeon Performance Comparison...]

[Final Role-Play Compatibility Judgment: Extremely Poor! (1%)]

[Warning: Role-play compatibility is too low. The Life Track of target historical figure "Karen Valcius" has rejected the grafting!]

’Just as I thought.’

Seeing the lines of flashing red text, Lance let out a long breath, releasing the pent-up frustration in his chest.

The hidden mastermind had gone to great lengths to set this whole thing up, and now it had fizzled out without so much as a ripple.

Lance had been thoroughly disgusted by the mastermind’s attempt to force Karen’s Life Track onto him.

This comical 1% result was, in a way, exactly what he had hoped for.

However, according to what Elisya had explained earlier in the Projection Space, if the disparity between the intruder and the designated character was too great for the target Life Track to attach, then the Technique would forcibly seize another, unknown Life Track at random from the river of history and graft it on instead.

This uncontrollable variable left Lance feeling a little uneasy.

He didn’t know what kind of fate would ultimately befall him.

He recalled his brutal, meat-grinder-like performance on the shoals earlier. ’What if the Technique glitches out and forcibly grafts the fate of some famous, psychopathic serial killer from history onto me?’ He’d probably be disgusted for a long time.

Lance pushed aside his complicated thoughts and turned his gaze back to the panel, wanting to see how the Technique had finalized its calculations in the time since he’d left the historical projection.

[Warning! The Technique has been triggered. Life Track Grafting cannot be interrupted!]

[Due to the distinct characteristics displayed by the player, such as "Extreme Physical Violence," "Superhuman Resilience," and "One-Man Army," the great wheel of fate is now forcibly searching the river of history for a Life Track with higher compatibility!]

[Search Successful!]

[Fate Target: King of the North]

The panel didn’t provide a detailed description of what kind of person this so-called "King of the North" was.

But the four words "King of the North" were glowing with a faint golden light on the translucent screen, and it seemed he could click on them with his thoughts to learn more.

Just then, the two of them emerged from Copper Creek Forest.

Ahead, they could already see the familiar, low-lying walls of Gray Rock Town.

Once they were back in Gray Rock Town, Lance stopped and waved goodbye to Guild Master Necros beside him.

The old Guild Master looked at the young man and smiled.

He reminded Lance to visit the Adventurer’s Guild the next morning.

The sudden internship mission had been forcibly terminated, and the Guild needed to settle the rewards for all the participating students and Adventurers.

He had personally issued Lance’s commission, so he told Lance to come to him to settle it.

Lance readily agreed, then immediately turned and strode toward his home.

Pushing open the door to his home, Lance didn’t even bother to turn on the lights in the living room.

He strode into his bedroom, pulled a loose-fitting casual outfit from the wardrobe, and changed into it.

Then he flopped onto his soft bed, eagerly refocusing his attention on the system panel.

He took a deep breath and, with his mind, firmly tapped the glowing name: King of the North.

HUMMM...

Along with a faint ringing in his ears, a series of blurry images flooded into his mind like a tidal wave.

Lance’s vision was instantly replaced by a vast expanse of white.

This was an arctic ice field, perpetually shrouded in wind and snow.

The wind, cold as a knife’s edge, howled between the glaciers.

It seemed even colder than Beifeng Province.

The first light of dawn struggled to pierce the thick blizzard, scattering across the ice field.

On the snow-covered ground, the mangled corpses of Demons were piled into a terrifying mountain several meters high.

And in the center of the scene, a man sat quietly atop that mountain of corpses.

He was encased in fully-enclosed black Heavy Armor, its powerful, streamlined silhouette covered in the old scars of sword and axe blows.

His arms were clad in jet-black Metal Hand Guards, their edges sharpened into vicious spikes.

The key joints of his legs were likewise fitted with sharp Impact Armor.

In one hand, the man casually gripped a blood-soaked Heavy Spear.

The extravagantly designed spear was clearly of astonishing weight, and the butt of its shaft was carved into a ferocious Dragon Head.

The deep black shaft was covered in shimmering, crimson cracks, as if sealing some frenzied Magic Power that was about to erupt. Just looking at the spearhead, exposed to the snowstorm, was enough to imagine the agony of being impaled by it.

He sat there on the pile of Demons, gazing at the golden sun slowly rising in the distance.

But this peace did not last long.

Immediately after, the clouds were violently torn asunder by a brutish Power.

A true Giant Dragon appeared in the sky above the battlefield.

The Giant Dragon’s size was suffocatingly immense, and anyone could tell at a glance that this was no low-level Sub-Dragon, capable only of crawling on the ground.

This was a pure-blooded Giant Dragon.

Its broad Wings were caked in thick frost, and its entire massive body glowed with a crystalline, Deep Blue luster.

With every beat of its Wings, the surrounding air instantly condensed into sharp ice crystals.

The Giant Dragon opened its Tusk-filled maw to let out a roar, then dove from the heavens, straight for the man on the corpse-mountain.

Faced with such an oppressive Mythical Creature, the man slowly rose to his feet.

He then did something so insane it made even Lance’s scalp tingle.

He reverse-gripped the crimson spear in his right hand.

Leaning back, he concentrated all his Power into his waist and arms, taking a throwing stance and aiming squarely at the Frost Giant Dragon descending from the sky.

After gathering his strength for a brief moment, the man let out a furious roar and hurled the Heavy Spear.

Although the spear flew upward, defying gravity, from Lance’s perspective, the crimson-glowing weapon was like a burning meteor flying in reverse, carrying an oppressive Power that seemed capable of piercing through anything.

The spear tore through the sky, the terrifying Power forcibly displacing the air around it, which exploded into a massive white shockwave in mid-air.

At that stunning moment, all the historical images came to an abrupt halt.

Lance’s eyes snapped open, and he gasped for breath.

The vision had been so real that he had felt the oppressive presence of the descending Giant Dragon.

His forehead was covered in a fine sheen of cold sweat.

’If I’m not mistaken... the Life Track I just forcibly intercepted must be the one that ferocious man once walked.’

Sure enough.

As the vision faded, the system panel immediately displayed the final notification.

[Notification: You have successfully intercepted the King of the North’s Life Track, "Spear of the Lake."]
