Who Says I’m Not a Legitimate Adventurer?
Chapter 192: The Transgressor’s Point Battle
When Lance opened his eyes once more, the surrounding world had already undergone a heaven-and-earth-shattering transformation.
He discovered that he was standing in a golden wheat field that stretched all the way to the end of his vision.
A gentle breeze swept through, causing the heavy wheat stalks to rise and fall like ocean waves.
The place radiated a tranquil pastoral atmosphere.
But when Lance raised his head, he discovered that there was no sun in the sky at all.
Above him was a vast and boundless sea of stars, countless shimmering stars slowly revolving according to some mysterious trajectory.
The light illuminating this wheat field actually came from a golden celestial body floating extremely close in the sky.
Lance narrowed his eyes and vaguely saw a gigantic tree stump in the center of the wheat sea.
The tree had apparently been severed in half by some terrifying force, and he could faintly see someone sitting atop the stump.
He lowered his head and examined himself. The upper body that had originally been bare inside the attic had somehow been thoughtfully draped in a grayish-blue long cloak.
Lance silently complained inwardly.
It seemed that the game about to begin was a healthy and uplifting intellectual game, and participants weren’t allowed to attend shirtless.
Lance reached out and parted the waist-high waves of wheat as he walked toward the tree stump.
After approaching closer, he finally saw the person clearly.
It was a little boy who looked only eight or nine years old.
He wore an oversized divine robe that fit him terribly, the loose collar slipping casually off one shoulder.
The little boy was currently sitting comfortably on the edge of the tree stump, leaning against a soft stack of wheat straw, seriously examining several cards in his hands with his head tilted upward.
A transparent butterfly entirely condensed from starlight quietly rested on the boy’s shoulder, slowly flapping its glowing wings.
Hearing the rustling footsteps through the wheat field, the little boy turned his head, his clear gaze landing upon Lance.
“Big Brother, you’re here?”
The little boy put down the cards in his hands. His smile was brilliantly bright, just like an ordinary child who had been waiting a long time for a playmate.
“And you are?”
Lance stopped walking and politely asked in a soft voice.
“My name is Chaos.”
“I specially invited Big Brother here to play a game with me.”
The little boy’s expression was innocent and pure as he happily swung his legs.
“If you can beat me in the game, I’ll give you a really great gift.”
Upon hearing that name, countless legends regarding the appearance of gods in the mortal world instantly surfaced in Lance’s mind.
According to the rumors, the true forms of gods were impossible to look upon directly. The moment mortals witnessed them, their sanity would collapse.
Therefore, whenever gods actively appeared before humans, they would generally transform into avatars representing aspects of their personalities.
The appearance of this child before him likely represented the aspect of fun and childlike innocence.
“The fact that Big Brother sees me like this means that deep down inside, Big Brother also really likes playing games.”
Chaos smiled even more happily, his eyes curving into crescent moons.
That smile resembled someone who had finally found a like-minded companion.
Hearing those words caused a subtle ripple to arise within Lance’s heart.
Likes playing games.
Those five words instantly reminded him of many things from his previous life.
Those nights spent sitting before a screen while staying up late to clear games—
They truly had been some of the best moments of his past life.
“Yeah.”
Lance looked at the child god before him, and a relaxed smile also appeared at the corner of his lips.
“We really are fellow enthusiasts.”
“Fellow enthusiasts?”
Chaos tilted his head in confusion at the unfamiliar phrase.
However, he didn’t continue dwelling on the matter. Instead, he excitedly stretched out his small hand and patted the edge of the tree stump beneath him.
“Big Brother, hurry and sit down. We’re about to start the game.”
“The game we’re playing today is this.”
Chaos spread open his palm and revealed the cards in his hand to Lance.
It was a deck composed of ten Secret Silver cards.
In the upper-left corner of each card were clear numbers from 1 to 10, while the center of the cards was engraved with intricate and magnificent mysterious patterns.
“This game is called 【The Transgressor’s Point Battle】.”
Chaos patiently laid out each card across the tree stump while using a crisp voice to explain the rules.
“It’s a very simple point battle game. After both sides reveal their cards, the side with the higher number wins.”
“However, 1 point can defeat 10 points.”
“As the dealer, I’ll have just a tiny little bit of privilege.”
Chaos raised two fingers and gestured slightly, as though it really were only a tiny bit.
“At the beginning of every round, I’ll draw two cards from the shuffled deck.”
“After looking at both cards, I’ll secretly place one as my battle card, while the other will be returned to the deck.”
“And Big Brother, as the challenger, can only blindly draw one card from the deck each round.”
“Once we compare points, the two battle cards used in that round will be completely discarded to the side and can no longer be used.”
“The game lasts for three rounds total and uses a best-of-three format.”
After hearing these rules—
The corner of Lance’s eye twitched slightly.
Yes, this was absolutely a completely unfair game.
From the perspective of mathematical probability and information disparity, the dealer possessed the right to choose between two cards. This meant that Chaos could perfectly avoid useless low-point cards and could even infer what kind of point value Lance might draw based on the card he kept.
Looking at the sly little-fox-like smile on Chaos’s face while he explained this tyrannical rule—
Lance immediately thought of the core authorities this god controlled.
Rebellion, reversal, absurdity, mockery.
He even had reason to suspect that besides the openly stated two-card advantage, the game definitely concealed even more shameless cheating methods from Chaos behind the scenes.
But if this were merely a one-sided slaughter where a god crushed a mortal—
Then the game itself would be far too boring.
And Chaos clearly disliked boredom.
Therefore—
Chaos suddenly extended a fair and tender finger and lightly pointed at Lance through the air.
Immediately afterward, Lance felt an external force stir the Source Essence he had just condensed.
His heart violently thumped once.
Then he distinctly felt that beneath his grayish-blue cloak, additional cards had suddenly appeared in his hands.
There was no need to lower his head to look.
The information on those cards had already clearly flowed into his mind.
“Big Brother, you can now use the additional card effects generated by your Source Essence to try and defeat me.”
The smile on Chaos’s face faded slightly. At this moment, a trace of divine authority seemed to appear upon his delicate face.
“This is the only chance mortals have to defeat a god head-on.”
“That is to wager the entirety of your past, transform your Source Essence into a blade, and launch a counterattack against a god.”
