Chapter 939: Threaten

As the moon peaked high above in the sky, Chu Li left discreetly from the back garden as he met up with Bai Feng and moved to the outskirts of the city.

He walked along the main road for around 3.1 miles before he reached the forest beside it. One would definitely pass through this main road if they were to head to Falling Autumn City. The troops would certainly march through this place as well and there was no other way around it.

There were a middle-aged woman and a man in the forest. The woman was incredibly beautiful and the man was no less than handsome. Furthermore, the two looked somewhat similar as well.

They were traveling among the trees as they stepped on the branches and had circled the area a few times in a short span of time.

“Master’s Junior Cheng, Master’s Senior Cheng.” Bai Feng fist saluted. “Shall we begin?”

“Yes. Alright.” The two nodded.

The middle-aged woman checked Chu Li out and said, “So this is the infamous Zhao Dahe?”

“Yes.” Bai Feng smiled. “Young Master Zhao has come to assist us tonight. He’ll be able to protect us should there be an enemy attack!”

“We’ll be in your care, Young Master Zhao.” The middle-aged woman smiled. “My elder brother and I will need to put all of our attention on setting up the formation. There must be no distraction at all. I’ll leave the outside world to you and Lil Feng. All of us will retreat if there’s any danger!”

Chu Li fist saluted.

Bai Feng had already introduced the two to Chu Li while they were on the way there. These two who were responsible for setting up the formation were brother and sister. They were able to resist a legion army that consisted of people in the tens of thousands if they set up their formation.

This great formation was not something that could be set up by an average Joe. Fortunately, the two siblings were in complete synergy, hence allowing them to be able to set up such a great formation.

Chu Li and Bai Feng would guard the south and north. He would be situated in the south and she, north. Once there was an enemy attack, one of them would defend while the other would safely escort the two in the forest back to the city.

The first night was peaceful as they were able to progress through the forest smoothly. The four returned to the city when dawn broke. They still needed three more nights to finish setting up the great formation at this speed. Falling Autumn City would not have to fear being invaded by an army when the time came and their contribution would shock everyone.

Chu Li went back to his house quietly at dawn and sat down to meditate. After some time, hasty footsteps came from the outside.

He opened his eyes and was greeted with the morning sunlight beaming through the window.

Chu Li got off the bed and opened the window to ask Ji Xin who was at the small courtyard. “Brother Ji, what’s the matter?”

Ji Xin was in a panic. “Junior Sister Li has disappeared!”

“Disappeared?” Chu Li frowned. He used the Omniscient Mirror and he was not able to trace Li Ruolan at all. She was not in Town Defense Prefecture. “Did she go out on her own accord?”

Ji Xin took out a letter from his clasp and passed to Chu Li through the window. “This is for you!”

Chu Li turned around and got out of the house. He opened the door and sat beside the stone table in the courtyard. His expression turned gloomy as he glanced through the letter.

Ji Xin stared at him unhappily.

Chu Li scoffed. “That Wen Tingdao!”

Ji Xin said, “You shouldn’t have given this guy the Detachment Pills. Look what happened now? We’ve gotten ourselves into trouble, right? We’ve attracted the evil wolves with our fresh meat!”

Chu Li took in a deep breath.

The letter was written by Wen Tingdao.

According to the letter, Wen Tingdao had invited Miss Li to their place for a few days and they did not have to be worried about it. He had no ill intentions and would definitely send Miss Li back when the time came. He did all of this was because he wanted to thank Zhao Dahe for the Detachment Pills.

Ji Xin scoffed. “What did they mean by inviting her to their place? It’s obviously a threat. They want Junior Brother Zhao to hand over the Detachment Pills!”

Chu Li remained silent.

Ji Xin continued, “You shouldn’t have given it to him in the first place!”

Chu Li glanced at him.

Ji Xin’s expression changed as he calmed down. He knew he should not have dug up old issues but he was still quite unsatisfied as he said resentfully, “Junior Brother Zhao, tell me what we should do. Should we report this to Altar Leader Mo?”

“There’s no need for that.” Chu Li shook his head.

“What should we do then?” Ji Xin was anxious. “We can’t just do nothing and wait for Wen Tingdao to give Junior Sister Li back to us, right? He’s a cunning man. He wouldn’t even bother returning Junior Sister Li back to us!”

Chu Li stared at the letter and kept looking around as if he was trying to find a hidden message.

As Ji Xin saw Chu Li looking extremely calm and had no intention of being anxious, the former started screaming. “Junior Brother Zhao, what should we do?”

“Please hold on,” Chu Li said. “Since they want something from us, they wouldn’t do anything to Junior Sister Li!”

“You’re way too calm!” Ji Xin said rudely. “Junior Sister Li is a girl and there are too many ways to deal with her. Any single method could destroy Junior Sister Li’s life for good!”

Chu Li put down the letter and said, “Junior Sister Li is extremely important to you Brother Ji but she’s not important towards Sword Moon Sect. The Detachment Pills are far more important than her. Do you think they would do something to an insignificant girl and lose the chance of getting their hands on the Detachment Pills?”

“You’re underestimating them!” Ji Xin scoffed.

Chu Li explained. “Did Wen Tingdao deliver another message to you?”

Ji Xin was stunned and his expression changed as he took out another letter from his embrace. “This was thrown in my courtyard. They’ve done so discreetly and it’s obvious that they’re scaring us!”

Chu Li took the letter and glanced at it before he shook his head. “This Wen Tingdao loves doing this sort of thing!”

In the letter, Wen Tingdao said that he would release Li Ruolan if he obtained four more Detachment Pills. If he did not get what he wanted, Li Ruolan would be released with her face ruined and even the Detachment Pills would not be able to help her.

This was a hard jab in Ji Xin’s weak spot.

He could not imagine how Li Ruolan would look like if her face was destroyed.

Chu Li threw the letter to one side and shook his head. “Relax, I’ll make an entire pot of Muscle Gaining Pill if Junior Sister Li’s face is ruined. I’ll guarantee that she would regain her normal look or even better than that!”

“Really?” Ji Xin asked hastily.

Chu Li laughed. “I can’t guarantee everything but no one is above me when it comes to alchemy!”

Ji Xin finally smiled as he let out a long sigh of relief and calmed down.

He was struggling since he received the letter. He had Junior Sister Li to worry about on one hand and had to face Zhao Dahe on the other. He could not betray both sides and was in a dilemma since he was stuck in the middle. He had even thought of stealing the Detachment Pills from Junior Sister Lu but he could not do it when he imagined just how bad of a situation Junior Sister Lu was in right now.

“Alright…” Ji Xin nodded unwillingly.

He had no other choice. Ji Xin did not know where Sword Moon Sect was and his Light-body Technique was no match for them. He could not even do anything even if he did find them.

Ji Xin fist saluted as he left Chu Li’s courtyard.

Chu Li scoffed. Wen Tingdao was willing to use any method, be it forcefully or through persuasion to obtain the Detachment Pills.

If that was the case, he was even more determined to not give in at all.

He guessed that there was someone important that needed the Detachment Pills. If Wen Tingdao were to really get his hands on the Detachment Pills, the Sword Moon Sect’s strength would increase greatly. Although Sword Moon Sect and Holy Church of Light were not enemies, it did not matter if the former’s strength increased. Furthermore, it would be for the better if they were enemies of the Holy Church of Light’s enemies.

The issue was that there were simply too few Detachment Pills. Hence, it could not be traded away that easily.

Furthermore, it was not ideal to trade it away as well. He could have donated it to the Saint since the latter must have realized that Chu Li had pushed away the Less Ultimate Sword, refusing the bait to become a Patrol.

If he were to donate the Detachment Pills to the Saint, the Holy Church of Light could trade them for the Less Ultimate Sword with the Sword Moon Sect.

The Saint would have to reward him for such an action. He would certainly be promoted to a Patrol and even obtain more than that because he had shown his loyalty to the Holy Church of Light. While contributions were admirable, loyalty was more important than that.

It was killing two birds with one stone, hence there was no reason for him to trade the Detachment Pills for the Less Ultimate Sword on his own, right?
