White-Robed Chief

Chapter 906 - Show Up

Chapter 906: Show Up

Soon, two dishes were served to her. After having a few bites, Li Ruolan put down her chopsticks and tossed a piece of silver on the table before leaving without speaking to anyone else. The people around her felt sad to watch her leave, keeping their eyes on her until she disappeared down the stairway.

Some of them even looked out through the window and watched her as she strolled down the avenue. She would occasionally stop in front of a shop and pick up a trinket to examine it before putting it down again. As she continued to stroll and wander about, she slowly disappeared into the crowd.

While her heart was filled with anxiety, her movements seemed casual and relaxed. Since her demeanor appeared to be similar to that of the people around her, she easily blended into her surroundings, showing no sign of awkwardness. Anyone who saw her would think that she was from Fairy’s Capital.

There were many other beautiful women walking along the avenue and attracting the attention of the people around them. Since Li Ruolan had her face covered with a white veil, she was not as eye-catching as those women who were showing their gorgeous faces.

Furthermore, before entering Fairy’s Capital, she had used a secret skill to conceal her cultivation level and restrain the threatening aura she emitted. That way, she was able to draw less attention to herself.

As she continued to browse around, she suddenly made a sharp turn and went into an alley. She followed the winding alley and finally arrived at a huge, magnificent-looking residence.

Two lifelike stone lions emitted an imposing vibe as they stood in front of the entrance like protectors of the residence. Meanwhile, the two large golden words “Feng Residence” dazzled brilliantly on the plaque hanging above the entrance and emanated an air of aristocratic grace.

She went forward and knocked on the door. Soon after, the side gate opened and an honest-looking middle-aged man came out.

“My surname is Ji. I’m from the western hills, and I’ve come to look for my brother. I hope the owner of this residence would assist me on this,” she said while giving a fist salute.

The middle-aged man sized her up and then nodded at her before turning around and walking back into the residence.

A few moments later, he opened the side gate and invited Li Ruolan in. Then, he led Li Ruolan to the front of the main hall before turning around to leave. Li Ruolan entered the main hall by herself.

Standing inside the main hall was a short and stout old man. He had a ruddy complexion and a long beard that reached down to his chest. He stroked his beard while observing her.

Li Ruolan took out a white jade tag from her inner pocket.

The stout old man held up a fist salute and gave her a faint smile. “I’m Feng Qi. Greetings, Patrol.”

Li Ruolan waved a hand. “Where’s Senior Brother Ji?”

“Patrol Ji is in the backyard.” Feng Qi sighed. “However, Patrol Ji has been severely injured. He’s recuperating now.”

“I’d like to have a look at him,” Li Ruolan anxiously replied.

“Come with me, Patrol.” Feng Qi led her through a courtyard with three entrances and came to a quiet room at the southwest corner of the backyard. At last, she saw Ji Xin.

Ji Xin was sitting cross-legged on the bed while channeling, with white steam appearing from the top of his head. His face looked so pale that it had become as white as a blank sheet of paper.

Li Ruolan waved a hand dismissively.

Feng Qi quietly left the room.

Li Ruolan went and sat behind Ji Xin before placing her right palm on his back to lend him a hand.

Ji Xin awoke. When he opened his eyes and saw that it was her, he closed his eyes again and continued channeling.

An hour later, white steam rose like a thick fog above both their heads.

Li Ruolan withdrew her palm while Ji Xin exhaled a long breath. His face was still pale white as he sighed and said, “Junior Sister Li, why have you come?”

“I’m here to rescue you, Senior Brother,” Li Ruolan replied.

Ji Xin shook his head.

Li Ruolan said, “Senior Brother’s situation is better than I expected. The Tempest Temple didn’t manage to capture you after all.”

“My current situation is no different from being captured by them.” A bitter smile appeared on Ji Xin’s face. “Junior Sister Li, you shouldn’t have come!”

Li Ruolan replied, “The Saint said that you might not have survived. The Holy Church of Light is lacking manpower right now since most of our people have been sent to the border of the Qiu Dynasty, so the Saint can’t send more people over for reinforcement.”

Ji Xin said, “Actually, I can stay here and try to wear them out for now. When the Holy Church of Light is able to send more people over, I’ll go back then.”

“What happened?” Li Ruolan asked curiously.

Ji Xin sighed and replied, “I was careless. I didn’t expect that there would be martial arts masters from the Tempest Temple hiding in Crouching Bull Mountain. I got injured while fighting them off. They used a secret skill on me, and I can’t get rid of it no matter how hard I try. Therefore, I have no other choice but to come to Fairy’s Capital.”

“They didn’t follow you here?”

“They won’t dare to attack me so openly in Fairy’s Capital.”

“In that case, they know that you’re hiding in this city, Senior Brother?”

“Yes.” Ji Xin nodded. “They’re waiting for me to leave Fairy’s Capital to carry on hunting me down!”

“Well then, Senior Brother Ji, you should stay here in the meantime. You can wait until your injuries recover first before leaving this place,” Li Ruolan said, “when that time comes, the Holy Church of Light should be able to send more people over to protect you on the way back. The Tempest Temple won’t manage to harm you then.”

Ji Xin shook his head and let out a sigh. “I’m just afraid that I can’t hold on until then.”

Li Ruolan knitted her eyebrows together while staring at him.

Ji Xin explained, “This particular martial art of the Tempest Temple is quite unique indeed. The palm energy that injured me was extremely deadly, and I can’t suppress it at all. My injuries have been becoming more and more severe. I’m afraid I might die in less than half a month!”

“What palm technique was it?”

“I don’t know,” Ji Xin muttered and shook his head, “the martial arts of the Tempest Temple are complicated and unfathomable. There are many that I’ve never even heard of. It was Little Monk Fa Yuan who struck me with this palm technique. Huh, he has a well-deserved reputation indeed!”

“Fa Yuan…” A grave expression appeared on Li Ruolan’s charming and gorgeous face.

She knew of this Fa Yuan from the Tempest Temple. He was a leading figure among their younger generation of disciples and was exceptionally talented. He was to become the future champion of the Tempest Temple.

Ji Xin said, “They’re not anxious to rush in and attack me, firstly because they can’t start a fight so openly here in Fairy’s Capital, and secondly because they’re confident that I’ll die soon so they won’t have to fight me again anyway!”

“Even the Light Pill won’t be able to help?” Li Ruolan frowned.

Ji Xin shook his head. “This palm energy is very weird. It keeps consuming the effects of the Light Pill. Basically, there’s no way I can escape from it.”

“Ah…” Li Ruolan gently sighed.

If even Ji Xin could not defuse this palm energy, she would not be able to do so either, seeing as there was not a huge difference in their cultivation levels.

Ji Xin said, “Nonetheless, I’m glad that I can see you before I die, Junior Sister Li. Now, I can die in peace!”

“Senior Brother, why must you say such disheartening words?” Li Ruolan muttered. “If the worst-case scenario does come, and you can’t deal with it anymore, just use the Secret Technique of Great Light and ascend to Outland.”

Ji Xin smiled. “I was thinking of that too.”

Li Ruolan could not help sighing. “If only Junior Brother Zhao was here to help!”

Zhao Dahe had always managed to perform miracles and accomplish what others could not. If he was here, he might be able to eliminate this palm energy.

“Junior Brother Zhao can save me?” Ji Xin shook his head in disbelief.

Li Ruolan replied, “Junior Brother Zhao has learned a wide variety of martial arts, all of which are the most profound and advanced martial arts, so he might be able to get rid of this palm energy.”

“Senior Sister has never thought of me during good times. It’s only when you encounter problems like this that you’d remember me!” Chu Li’s voice could suddenly be heard from outside the window.

Li Ruolan was startled and quickly looked out the window.

Ji Xin called out, “Junior Brother Zhao?”

Li Ruolan opened the window and saw Chu Li propping himself up against a plum tree as he chuckled and glanced in her direction.

“Junior Brother Zhao, you really came!” Li Ruolan stared at him in shock.

Chu Li said, “I’m not that cold-blooded and heartless, Senior Sister Li. Since you’ve requested my assistance, how can I not come?”

Li Ruolan rolled her eyes at him and felt her anger flaring up against him once more. However, since he had shown up, she felt happy too. As her anger and joy mixed together, her emotions were all jumbled up inside her.

Chu Li gave a fist salute. “Senior Brother Ji.”

“Quickly come in,” Ji Xin said with a smile. “I didn’t expect that, aside from Junior Sister Li, Junior Brother Zhao would show up too!”

Amidst the desperate situation he had fallen into, he felt very touched that they were willing to come over and help him regardless of the danger involved.

Chu Li slowly entered the room.

Li Ruolan frowned. “Junior Brother, how’s the condition of your injuries?”

“It’s not fatal.” Chu Li waved a hand and turned his gaze to Ji Xin. “Senior Brother Ji, you’re injured too?”

Ji Xin gave him a humorless smile and said, “My injury from this particular palm technique is quite fatal.”

Chu Li stretched out his arm to check his pulse.
