White Dragon Lord
Chapter 363: Fall of the Frost Pangolin!
The White Dragon Lord radiated a chilling killing intent. The Frost Pangolin's heart trembled, but it immediately grew furious, thrashing its sharp claws as it dug toward him.
"I'm going to rip your head off! You damn dragon!"
Its claws tore through the ice at an astonishing speed. Coupled with a drill-like body built for subterranean travel, its pace beneath the ice was barely any slower than on the surface.
In his Elemental Body state, the White Dragon Lord could not use physical attacks. He retreated while rapidly chanting a spell.
Ice Bind: Empowered!
The ice around the rapidly digging Frost Pangolin suddenly surged inward, instantly sealing off its space to maneuver.
"Wuaaah!"
The pangolin-like demon exerted all its strength. Above the ice, the powerhouses locked in combat with the demons suddenly felt the ground violently tremble. Shattered chunks of ice bounced across the surface as if an Earthquake Spell had been cast, throwing both adventurers and demons off balance.
Catching the exploding ice in their peripheral vision, the adventurers hurriedly leaped back to dodge. With grave expressions, they raised their weapons to guard their hearts and other vitals. However, they soon realized the surface had merely cracked and quickly returned to normal. Weapons swinging, they resumed their clash with the equally wary demons.
Beneath the ice, the Frost Pangolin broke free from the Ice Bind and continued its pursuit. But by now, the White Dragon Lord had put enough distance between them, leaving the demon completely out of reach."Wudumaga@#¥%...&*!" it spat in abyssal.
The White Dragon Lord, who was still casting, was caught entirely off guard when he heard the Frost Pangolin's chant. It was unmistakably a spell of profane magic. Judging by its chanting speed and the magical fluctuations the incantation provoked, the Frost Pangolin's proficiency was far from low—it had reached the Master Tier of a professional Mage.
A sense of profound betrayal instantly welled up in the White Dragon Lord's heart.
Where was the most basic trust between people?!
It was supposed to be a meat-shield type demon! Yet first, it turned into an elusive assassin playing whack-a-mole, and now it was pulling out profane magic.
Sure enough! Any demon capable of becoming a High-Tier Legend possessed an ace up their sleeve that few knew about!
The White Dragon Lord dared not be careless. In the Elemental Body: Ice state, he could not use physical attacks and was immune to them. However, the trade-off for this physical immunity was taking double damage from magic.
Ignoring the mana cost, he used metamagic techniques to compress the incantation, rapidly completing the legendary magic he was already casting.
Frostbite!
Bone-chilling ice elements gathered before the White Dragon Lord, forming a dark blue, fang-shaped elemental tooth. Translucent and flawless, the elemental fang emitted a faint glow, looking like the most beautiful work of art in the world—yet it was extremely dangerous. It shot toward the Frost Pangolin at blinding speed.
As a pure magical attack, Frostbite's trajectory was unaffected by traveling beneath the ice. Its speed was incredible. Unable to dodge in time, the Frost Pangolin curled into a tight ball just as the attack slammed into its scales.
The White Dragon Lord's pupils shrank. The spot where Frostbite struck the demon's scales rapidly froze over, spreading across a large patch before coming to a halt. The Frost Pangolin's aura immediately weakened, but the extent of the decline indicated only a minor injury.
The defensive power of its scales was even more freakish than he had imagined; taking legendary magic head-on merely left it lightly wounded.
The Frost Pangolin rapidly spat out its incantation. Sensing that things were going south, the White Dragon Lord charged at the demon, opened his maw, and unleashed a draconic roar!
Shattering Roar!
The soul attack struck the Frost Pangolin. Its chanting came to an abrupt halt as it spat out a mouthful of demonic blood. With the spell interrupted at a critical juncture, the demon—whose magical prowess wasn't all that high to begin with—suffered severe magical backlash.
However, Shattering Roar was merely an Intermediate Tier Soul Magic. The Frost Pangolin recovered its senses after a brief daze. Feeling the magic the White Dragon Lord was currently weaving, it was filled with absolute terror and desperately clawed its way toward the surface of the ice.
Time magic, space magic, and Soul Magic were collectively known as the three great supreme magics of the multiverse. Among them, time magic was undisputedly the most mysterious and powerful existence, while the strength of Soul Magic and space magic could not be compared due to their different areas of focus.
Space magic was renowned for its absurd escape capabilities and indestructible destructive power. Soul Magic, on the other hand, was famous for ignoring defenses and boasting trackless, eerily unpredictable attack methods.
Regardless of which of the three supreme magics one wielded, their combat strength would far surpass ordinary peers of the same Tier. The Frost Pangolin never expected to be so lucky as to encounter the incredibly rare Soul Magic—and in a hostile situation, no less.
It dug frantically toward the surface. Its only hope now was to blend into the crowd of adventurers, making the White Dragon Lord hesitate to strike for fear of collateral damage.
The White Dragon Lord stared expressionlessly at the madly digging demon. He had calculated the timing the moment he used Shattering Roar. The stun duration from the roar, combined with the time it would take the Frost Pangolin to dig upward, was more than enough for him to cast his spell.
Master Tier Soul Magic—Soul-Perishing Needle!
Not long after it began digging upward, an ominous sensation struck from behind, as if a freezing needle were piercing straight toward its brow. A sense of fatal crisis flooded its heart. The Frost Pangolin looked back at the White Dragon Lord but saw no abnormal energy traces. Yet, it knew with absolute certainty that a lethal threat was bearing down on it.
"Spare me! I am willing to submit!"
"Too late!"
Whether the Frost Pangolin was telling the truth or just stalling for time, it was already too late. Once fired, the Master Tier Soul Magic—the Soul-Perishing Needle—was like a bullet leaving the chamber; even the White Dragon Lord had no way of stopping it.
Condensed from the power of the soul, the Soul-Perishing Needle was invisible to the naked eye, leaving the Frost Pangolin with no way to dodge. To the White Dragon Lord, however, it was perfectly clear.
A tiny, slender, transparent needle, fine as a strand of hair, shot through the ice and pierced into the Frost Pangolin's scales. Its exceptional dual-resistance armor provided absolutely no protection. The needle sank straight into its foul soul, which was tainted with strands of ominous, dark crimson energy.
Crack!
The White Dragon Lord seemingly heard a crisp sound akin to shattering glass. The demon's filthy soul fractured into countless pieces, dissolving into wisps of soul smoke that drifted up toward the River Styx in the sky.
The terror and despair in the Frost Pangolin's eyes gradually faded, turning dull and lifeless like a slowly extinguishing light bulb.
The High-Tier Legend demon lord, the Frost Pangolin Kibra, had thoroughly perished!
"Phew! Finally took care of it!"
He wiped non-existent cold sweat from his forehead and floated upward. As long as he brought its corpse to the surface, he could declare this battle over.
His illusory dragon claw reached out for the body but phased right through it. Still immersed in the joy of slaying a powerful enemy, the White Dragon Lord suddenly remembered that he was still in his Elemental Body state.
Pondering for a moment, he rapidly chanted an incantation that lasted for a few seconds.
Ice Animate!
Using Ice Animate, the White Dragon Lord turned all the solid ice above the corpse into a fluid state. He then exited his Elemental Body, grabbed the Frost Pangolin's body, and floated up.
A massive dragon head surfaced from the ice. A nearby demon froze in surprise before immediately throwing a punch at it. The White Dragon Lord unleashed his dragon might, instantly crushing the audacious High-Tier Demon against the ground with terrifying pressure.
It wasn't just the daring High-Tier Demon; every demon below the Master Tier in his vicinity completely lost the ability to move.
Lifting the Frost Pangolin's corpse, the White Dragon Lord tossed it into the sky.
"Demons! You have lost!"
Crash!
The massive corpse smashed into an igloo beside the White Dragon Lord, pulverizing it. Its scales reflected a blinding glare beneath the three suns that had just risen.
Staring at the colossal corpse, the demons and adventurers locked in fierce combat collectively froze, as if someone had hit the pause button.
Although his battle with the Frost Pangolin had been fraught with danger, it hadn't taken long. From the moment he transformed into his Elemental Body and dove into the ice to the moment he surfaced with the corpse, scarcely more than a minute had passed.
The fact that the White Dragon Lord could slay a High-Tier Legend demon of the same level within a single minute carried a staggering amount of implications that left everyone in disbelief.
After a moment of shock, reality set in. The adventurers erupted in ecstatic cheers while the demons suffered a total morale collapse. Those demons that still possessed a shred of rationality immediately tried to shake off their opponents and break out of the encirclement. The White Dragon Lord also joined the massacre.
A surging torrent of Dragon Breath swept through the routing Demon Army, leaving behind rows of lifelike ice sculptures. His long, powerful tail whipped across the ground, reducing igloos to powder and sending the shivering demons hiding inside flying backwards, coughing up blood before losing their lives.
The fierce battle instantly devolved into a one-sided slaughter. In the face of absolute power, the vast majority of the demons fell. Only a tiny fraction with exceptionally good luck managed to escape the lockdown radius of the Dimensional Anchor and teleport away.
Ten minutes later, the last living demon in the Ice and Snow Demon Base let out a scream and collapsed. Looking at the corpses littering the ground, the victorious team of powerhouses panted heavily, though their spirits were high.
"Clean up the battlefield."
Under everyone's envious gazes, the White Dragon Lord stored away the Frost Pangolin's corpse.
According to battlefield rules, whoever killed the enemy claimed the spoils. The adventurers busily gathered the bodies of the demons they had slain. As for the demons killed collectively or left unclaimed, dedicated personnel collected them for distribution based on merit after the battle.
"Amos, come here quickly!"
Hearing the Gold Dragon's shout, the White Dragon Lord flew toward the ice castle in the central district.
The ice castle hadn't been fully constructed to begin with, and after taking damage from the fierce battle, half of the structure had already collapsed.
Amid the ruins, the White Dragon Lord spotted the Diamond Automaton that had been besieged by numerous Legendary Demons. Portions of its diamond exterior were shattered, and it bore scorch marks alongside signs of severe acid corrosion, but the overall damage wasn't serious. It was still functional.
Stowing away the Diamond Automaton, he turned to the Gold Dragon beside him. The Gold Dragon was holding a few Cold Ice Chests.
"Leopold, what do you have there?"
"Materials for building the fortress! Hahaha, we conquered this place before they could even finish it. There are tons of leftover materials, which works out perfectly for us."
The Gold Dragon tossed a Cold Ice Chest over to him. A chest that a multi-meter-tall ice ape demon would have had to carry on its shoulder looked like a tiny music box in the White Dragon Lord's claws. He flipped open the lid.
"Whoa, this is all good stuff!"
The White Dragon Lord felt extremely pleased. The resources the demons used to construct their core bastions were exceedingly rare magical materials from the Bottomless Abyss—items that only native demons could gather in large quantities.
Because they were specialties of the Bottomless Abyss, these materials were exceptionally scarce and valuable in the outside world. Moreover, the Frost Demons' resources perfectly matched his own attributes, meaning he could put them to use immediately.
Holding a pale blue ice crystal in his claws, the White Dragon Lord brought it close to his eyes to inspect it carefully.
"Oh! An Oghma Crystal! Today really is my lucky day! By the way, Leopold, how was your harvest?"
"I took down two Legendary Demons. It doesn't compare to you, but it's not a bad haul."
Clearly, the Gold Dragon was very satisfied with his own spoils.
After the two dragons chatted for a bit, the White Dragon Lord walked to the side and cleared an open space with his claws. Drawing a palm-sized metal disc from his Dimensional Bag, he activated the magic array within it. Purple arcane light shot up from the disc.
He didn't have to wait long before the purple arcane light morphed into a three-dimensional projection of Engru Ghostwolf's upper body.
"Your Excellency, the mission is complete. The Frost Pangolin, Kibra, is dead. The Frost Demon forces across the Frozen Land have been largely wiped out. Only a few small fries managed to slip away, posing no threat to the army."
"Well done, Amos! I will record this merit for you! Our next strategic goal is to completely tear open the demons' defensive line so the Alliance army can strike directly into their heartland. Head to Vagro Fortress as quickly as possible. Join forces with Mage Alan and take down Vagro together!"
"Yes, Your Excellency!"
"Also, it's best if you capture Vagro Fortress by today. Both the demons and the Alliance require one day to send reinforcements to the front lines. However, the demons can march under the blood moon, whereas ordinary Alliance Warriors cannot endure its negative energy."
"I understand."
Engru Ghostwolf's projection vanished. The White Dragon Lord tucked away the exceptionally rare, specially crafted Emergency Communication Disc.
"Everyone! Speed it up! We have a new mission! Our target this time is Vagro Fortress!"
His magically amplified voice echoed across the battlefield. The crowd eagerly responded to his call and hastened their pace. Immediately after, the White Dragon Lord summoned his Harpy dependents and Gurgalu.
"Lomana Ironfeather! Rush back to Blackrock Fortress at top speed. Ensure the army arrives at Vagro Fortress by this afternoon! We have a tough battle ahead."
"Yes!"
"Gurgalu! Leopold and I will head to Vagro Fortress first. You lead the army and follow close behind."
"Yes!"
The White Dragon Lord and the Gold Dragon took to the sky. Mage Alan's troops could easily serve as a substitute for the powerhouse army, meaning the latter wasn't strictly necessary right now. Thus, the two dragons set off ahead of the rest.
Unburdened by the slow march of an army, the two dragons tore through the sky, trailing sonic booms in their wake.
After flying for half an hour, the White Dragon Lord shook his head.
"Amos, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Just a little sleepy. It's a normal side effect of expending a massive amount of soul power."
The White Dragon Lord looked out over the distant land. A grand demonic city was besieged by rings of enemy troops. Above the vast army, a proud and solitary figure floated in the sky, utterly aloof from the world.
"We're here!"
