White Dragon Lord

Chapter 203: Friendly Forces?!

  • Next Chapter

After several volleys of arrows, the fastest and strongest of the demonized beasts reached the foot of the City Wall.

Most of the demonized beasts could do nothing against the towering City Wall. They could only ram their heads against the stone in an attempt to bash their way through. However, a monument to human engineering was not so easily breached. Their efforts ended in nothing but cracked skulls, spilled blood, and utter futility.

The greatest threat came from a dozen agile, feline demonized beasts. They leaped into the air, unsheathing hooked claws from their thick pads to grip the rough stone, scaling the City Wall at terrifying speeds.

Seeing this, the defending general drew the Enchanted Longsword at his waist and unleashed a crescent-shaped energy slash downward, cleaving a mindless demonized bobcat cleanly in two.

"Quick! Drop the stones! Do not let them breach the top!"

The soldiers hoisted stones the size of millstones and hurled them over the edge.

Stripped of all reason, the demonized beasts made no attempt to dodge. Almost every boulder found its mark, but against the truly powerful beasts, the falling stones had little effect.

A powerful demonized tiger swiped its paw. Three cold flashes of light flickered, and the sharp claws sliced a falling boulder into four neat pieces that tumbled harmlessly down.

However, an energy slash followed closely behind the shattered stone. Blood sprayed through the air as the strike sheared off most of the tiger's paw.

The demonized tiger let out a furious roar, desperate to scale the City Wall and tear its attacker apart. But its mangled limb could no longer support its weight, and the beast plummeted back to the ground. Up above, the High Tier professionals in the army simply waited for their next worthy target.

With falling boulders crushing the ordinary demonized beasts and High Tier professionals eliminating the powerful ones, the immediate crisis of the City Wall being overrun was resolved.

"Keep firing!"

The soldiers aimed their crossbows and longbows, raining arrows upon the horde. Before long, a ring of corpses piled up beneath the City Wall, and even the surviving demonized beasts bristled with shafts.

However, the casualties were mostly the weaker demonized beasts. The stronger ones boasted thick, leathery hides; the arrows merely pierced their tough skin before wedging harmlessly in their dense muscle.

Black demonic blood oozed from their wounds. Though the demonized creatures had lost their minds, they were still flesh and blood—severe blood loss would eventually prove fatal.

If not for the several Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls closing in, the situation would have been well under control.

The general kept his eyes locked on the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls, and the six giant crossbow crews stood at the ready.

Giant crossbows were specialized weapons forged by humanity to hunt massive Transcendent Tier creatures. Powered by the elastic, crisscrossing tendons of Transcendent Tier beasts, they packed devastating lethal force. Each giant crossbow was three meters long, required two people to operate, and had to be mounted permanently on the City Wall.

Seeing the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls entering optimal range, the veteran general roared out a command.

"Crossbowmen! Take aim! Prepare to fire!"

The operators locked onto the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls, sweat beading on their foreheads as they slowly adjusted the angle of their heavy weapons.

The general stared unblinking at the thundering beasts. Reloading a giant crossbow was a grueling process, and given the speed of the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls, the soldiers would only get one shot.

And that single volley would determine the survival of everyone in Feilan City.

A little closer!

Just a little closer!

"Now! Fire!"

At the general's command, the operators yanked the triggers.

Swoosh!

Six three-meter-long massive bolts shot forth. The sharp, cold-gleaming tips tore through the air with a low howl, streaking straight toward the charging Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls.

Four of the six massive bolts found their marks. Two of the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls were struck in their vitals, dying on the spot.

A third bull took a bolt to the thigh. The terrifying kinetic energy shattered its bone, sending the massive beast tumbling to the ground. Carried by its own momentum, it rolled wildly into the horde of demonized creatures massed before the City Wall, its tremendous bulk crushing several of its own kind to death.

The fourth struck bull suffered only a minor graze. Alongside four completely unharmed kin, it rampaged forward, continuing the relentless charge toward the City Wall.

The eight-meter-long Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls plowed through the battlefield like massive runaway trucks. They knocked aside any lesser demonized beasts in their path and slammed into the City Wall at almost the exact same moment.

Boom!

The impact felt like an earthquake. The soldiers on the City Wall lost their footing, frantically grabbing the battlements to keep from falling.

The general peered over the edge, cold sweat dripping from his forehead as he spotted five massive craters pulverized into the stone. A few more hits like that, and the City Wall would collapse.

Having delivered their first strike, the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls backed up to prepare for a second charge.

"Quick! Aim for their eyes! Fire!"

The soldiers ignored the rest of the demon horde, leveling their weapons at the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls and pulling their triggers.

However, because of the steep downward angle, the window to hit the bulls' weak spots was vanishingly small.

Arrows bounced off the bulls' exceptionally tough hides, leaving behind nothing but faint white scuff marks. The beasts simply lowered their heads and charged again, battering the exact same spots. The fractures in the City Wall spread further.

"Mages! Where are the Mages?!"

Several Mid-Tier Mages arrived on the City Wall. Just as the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls slammed into the stone, they cast an Earth Wall spell to block the initial impact.

By taking the initial force of the charge, the Earth Wall drastically weakened the blow, keeping the City Wall standing.

The situation devolved into a stalemate. Seeing the Mid-Tier Mages beginning to pant, the general knew their mana would run dry first. Infuriated, he slammed a fist against the battlements.

"Dammit!"

The moment the Demonic Azure-Horned Bulls had appeared, Count Pedro Ureta had gathered his Master Tier Magic Consultant and fled toward the city lord's mansion, preparing to teleport away.

If only a Master Tier Mage were here right now, the general was eighty percent sure he could hold Feilan City.

Unfortunately, there were no "ifs" in this world.

The general touched the Single-Use Flight Scroll tucked inside his armor.

For some unknown reason, not a single flying demonized creature had been spotted anywhere on the continent.

Because of this, the general had gone through private channels and spent a fortune to acquire a Flight Spell Scroll as a final, life-saving measure.

However, when he looked at his soldiers—their fingers bruised purple from repeatedly drawing their bowstrings—he slowly withdrew his hand from his armor.

"Soldiers! We...!"

Roar!

A resounding dragon's roar echoed across the sky, cutting off the general's speech.

A massive White Dragon appeared in the distant sky. At first, it was nothing more than a white speck, but a moment later, it arrived just outside Feilan City.

It was an eighteen-meter-long White Dragon, and the general's heart skipped a beat.

It's over!

When it rains, it pours!

They hadn't even dealt with the demonized creatures, and now a White Dragon had come to pillage them.

Yet, as the White Dragon drew closer, it beat its wings and purposely hovered in the air just ahead of the City Wall.

A moment later, an icy blue torrent of Dragon Breath cascaded downward, drowning the demonized creatures below.

"Wait?! Friendly forces!!!"
