White Dragon Lord
Chapter 178: Legendary Magic—Silent Chill
A blood-red hemispherical magic barrier protected the entire island, blocking the Dragon Breath. Like dry ice on a stage, the breath cascaded down the barrier and flowed in all directions, bringing disaster to the corrupted creatures in the surrounding waters.
These corrupted creatures had been bred for a long time and were deeply mutated. Their strength was at least High Tier; dropping any single one of them into a human kingdom would trigger a panic.
But right now, stripped of fear and left with only brutality and murderous intent, they attacked the White Dragon like moths flying into the fire, perishing one and all beneath the Dragon Breath.
Under the bombardment of the Dragon Breath, the magic barrier's energy rapidly depleted. The powerhouse at the Altar could no longer sit still.
A secret door opened beneath the Altar, and a tall figure shrouded in a voluminous red robe darted out.
He stood in the clearing and stared at the White Dragon in the sky. With a single wave of his hand, a whip-like shadow shot out from his wide sleeve, instantly crossing a distance of a hundred meters to lash at the White Dragon Lord.
The White Dragon Lord's pupils shrank. That was no whip—it was clearly a tentacle. Amos shifted the direction of his Dragon Breath, blasting it toward the incoming limb.
He had no desire to be touched by this obviously modified tentacle. Who knew if it carried some bizarre virus, like HIV or something?
Struck by the Dragon Breath, the tentacle instantly lost its vitality. Frozen solid, it snapped cleanly in half.
The tall red-robed figure gave a muffled groan as a new tentacle grew from his arm, dragging across the ground in a massive, fleshy heap. The White Dragon Lord ceased his breath attack. He had spotted the Demon Cultists rolling out three massive crossbow cannons.
Complex magic arrays were carved into the crossbow cannons, and the tips of the bolts gleamed with a cold light.
Amos had no intention of testing the bolts' sharpness against his dragon scales.
Flapping his wings, the White Dragon Lord circled in another direction, keeping a safe distance as he rapidly chanted a spell.
Below, hearing the incantation and sensing the Magical Energy gathering frantically around the White Dragon Lord, the red-robed man went mad. He shaped his tentacle into a massive two-hundred-meter-long whip and launched an attack at the White Dragon Lord.
The White Dragon Lord dismissed it with a sneer. Flapping his wings, he pulled back, escaping the tentacle's attack range.
Hmph! A miserable, short-ranged Warrior!
During their brief clash, the White Dragon Lord noticed the opponent's magical fluctuations were weak, revealing him as a melee-focused Legendary Rank Warrior. Amos immediately felt relieved.
Even though he was modified, the red-robed man's combat prowess and resilience were exceptional among Legendary Rank Warriors, equivalent to a peak expert just below a High-Tier Legend.
But the Warrior class shared a common flaw: once a magic caster took to the sky, it was incredibly easy for them to kite their opponents.
That was true for any magic caster, let alone the White Dragon Lord, who could naturally fly.
The red-robed man possessed a flight item of his own. He activated it and soared toward the White Dragon Lord.
But how could item-assisted flight ever keep pace with the White Dragon Lord's speed?
The White Dragon Lord led him in circles, infuriating the red-robed man until he howled in rage.
Thirty seconds passed.
As the final syllable concluded, the air in the entire Underworld trembled, and an invisible pressure blanketed the Dark Lands.
Energy surged wildly, forming a massive ice-blue vortex. A gigantic orb of ice gradually materialized in front of the White Dragon Lord.
Legendary magic—Silent Chill!
In the White Dragon Lord's eyes, this was no simple ball of ice, but highly concentrated frost magic.
Amos looked back in amusement at the relentlessly pursuing red-robed man. Knowing that the casting of a legendary magic spell could not be stopped, the red-robed man hurriedly retreated to the island, hoping to use the magic barrier for defense.
In the waters below, four Adult Benthic Demon Fish had just arrived from their underwater caverns. The moment they surfaced and saw the sphere of magic in the White Dragon Lord's claws, they immediately dove back down.
Finally, the orb absorbed enough Magical Energy to take complete shape, forming a sphere of ice ten meters in diameter.
The ice orb was pale blue and crystalline, just like the clearest crystal.
Beautiful, yet extremely deadly!
Guided by the White Dragon Lord's mental strength, the ice orb moved. It started slow, then accelerated, ultimately crashing into the blood-red magic barrier like a falling meteor.
There was no earth-shattering boom. The instant it touched the magic barrier, the orb of condensed frost energy dissolved, transforming into a lethal, white Cold Wave that rolled out in all directions.
The ice-blue Cold Wave swept across the underground lake. Before it even physically touched the water, the terrifying chill was already freezing it solid.
In an instant, the entire surface of the underground lake was capped by a layer of ice ten meters thick.
The whole world fell terrifyingly silent.
This was the origin of the name Silent Chill. Beneath the Cold Wave, all things returned to silence!
Inside a cave high on the cliff face, the Nether Panther shivered from the terrifying chill. Looking out at the completely frozen lake, he couldn't help but count his blessings; the White Dragon had only wanted to capture him, not kill him.
Otherwise, if a massive area-of-effect spell like this came down on me, I wouldn't have been able to escape no matter what!
Crack!
In the dead silence of the Underworld, the sound of the frost-covered blood-red magic array fracturing was incredibly sharp.
The cracks on the magic barrier grew wider and wider, finally spreading across the entire dome like an avalanche before shattering into countless pieces.
The magic barrier that had blocked the White Dragon's breath for several seconds ultimately could not withstand the might of a legendary magic spell.
It shattered!
The White Dragon Lord saw the scene inside the dome. Even though the magic barrier had absorbed the vast majority of the energy attack, the aftershock of a legendary magic spell was not something small fry could withstand.
The overwhelming majority of the Demon Cultists lay collapsed on the ground. Only three of the more powerful ones managed to endure it, and even they had suffered massive energy damage. Let alone fight, they couldn't even stand steady.
The only one completely unharmed was the red-robed man, who had wrapped both himself and the Altar tightly in his tentacle.
The massive coiled tentacle writhed and retracted, revealing the red-robed man at the center and the Altar below.
The red-robed man looked around, his face ashen. His companions lay dead on the ground, which was covered in a thin layer of frost. He glared up at the White Dragon in a towering rage.
The White Dragon Lord answered with three Ice Lances.
The three Ice Lances shot in a triangular formation, streaking directly toward the Altar behind the red-robed man.
The red-robed man flew into a fury. Guarding the Altar was the sacred mission bestowed upon him by his master; it was his entire reason for living.
The tentacle lashed out, wrapping around the three Ice Lances in midair and hurling them down onto the ice.
Crunch!
The five-meter-long Ice Lances smashed into powder against the thick layer of ice.
Crack!
In the water beneath the ice, the Benthic Demon Fish manipulated the currents to slam into the frozen ceiling, fracturing the surface.
Bang!
After several impacts, the frozen lake fractured from below. A surge of water mixed with broken shards of ice shot into the sky.
Through the breached hole, the Benthic Demon Fish leapt out onto the surface of the lake amid the falling water and shattered ice.
The White Dragon Lord looked at the enemies arrayed in formation. Through the Vassal Contract, he spoke to the Nether Panther hiding on the cliff wall.
"Prepare to move!"
