When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds
Chapter 698: Great Demon 61
Tan You pouted. "Maybe so, but we can’t just pretend we don’t know anything because he’s powerful, can we? Besides, friends are more important than offending Jing Yue."
Cang Long wanted to pat Tan You, but when he saw she was completely hidden in the fur of Bai Ze’s neck, he clicked his tongue in disappointment. "Leave it to Ahzhao to make a guy feel better. Don’t worry, we’ll stick with you through thick and thin."
"If that Jing Yue dares to come after us, he’ll find we’re no pushovers. There are so many of us—you think we can’t handle one Buddhist cultivator? If worst comes to worst, just unleash that killing array of yours. We’ll make sure it’s a one-way trip for him."
The killing array he spoke of was, of course, Tan You’s God Trapping Array. Even in the Ninth Heaven, her God Trapping Array remained a powerful asset. Tan You could even use it to trap an Upper God like Jin Yao for a few moments.
Let alone an Immortal Monarch. It was the ultimate tool for punching above her weight. In any case, after getting a taste of the God Trapping Array’s power once, Cang Long never wanted to experience it again. In fact, he was eagerly anticipating the day Tan You would unleash it and just wreck shop.
Tan You just smiled. "That’s a last resort. Besides, if we kill Jing Yue on the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, it’s sure to bring retaliation from the Buddhist Sect."
"But if we run into him during the All-Clan Grand Tournament, then death is fair game. Even if the Buddhist Sect wants to make trouble, they’ll still have to abide by the tournament’s rules."
Bai Ze sighed. "Ah, the All-Clan Grand Tournament... anyone below the rank of Upper God can join. To be honest, there are always a lot of casualties."
Tan You was full of confidence. "I don’t care about anyone else. The important thing is that we make it out alive."
"Of course. It wasn’t easy for us to get to the Ninth Heaven, so we’d better stay alive." The Nine-tailed Fox’s eyes crinkled into a smile. "But I heard Jing Yue has been an Eighth Grade Immortal Monarch for a long time. If he tries a sneak attack on the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, that’s... problematic."
Their group from the Demon Clan was mostly at the Third Grade Immortal Monarch level. The gap between that and Eighth Grade was a world of difference. This just went to show how incredibly powerful Tan You’s trump card truly was.
But for an Eighth Grade Immortal Monarch to sneak attack a Third Grade Immortal Monarch would be all too easy.
Tan You couldn’t think of a better solution. "How about... we just stick close to my uncles from now on? And don’t get separated? If all else fails, can’t we just have Third Uncle kick Jing Yue out of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield?"
"If we keep acting on our own, one of us is bound to get caught alone eventually. I’d be fine, but I can’t say you’d all be able to get away unscathed."
The Cold Dragon winced. "Ahzhao, you really know how to twist the knife. Why not just beg one of your powerful elders to get rid of Jing Yue for you?"
"He’s like a shit-covered dung beetle right now. You can’t just kill him, but his presence forces everyone to hold back."
Tan You laughed at the analogy. "Fine, I’ll go ask my uncles what they think when we get back."
Naturally, Jin Yao and the others agreed with Tan You’s proposal. In the end, it was Jin Zhen, the one most skilled in physical combat, who made a move. He tore open a spatial rift and casually tossed Jing Yue inside.
As for where Jing Yue ended up, why would Jin Zhen care? Daring to target his family’s little one—Jing Yue clearly had a death wish.
Jin Zhen’s movements had been incredibly swift, and Tan You’s eyes lit up instantly. She was no longer draped over Bai Ze’s neck; instead, she shifted into her human form and scurried over to Jin Zhen. "Third Uncle, how did you do that? Can you teach me?"
She even mimicked his hand gesture, but feeling her attempt was a clumsy imitation, she sighed in disappointment. "Why did I only choose to study the Dao of Karma? This Dao of Space is so cool."
"If you don’t like someone, you can just snatch them up and toss them into a spatial rift."
Jin Zhen flicked Tan You’s forehead, amused. "Little Zhao Zhao, you’re quite ambitious. If you want to learn, of course I can teach you."
Tan You immediately fell into a dramatic bow. "Thank you, Third Uncle! You’re so generous, Third Uncle! You’re the absolute best, Third Uncle!"
The barrage of flattery was so intense that even an Upper God like Jin Zhen, who was used to constant adulation, felt a little dizzy. He paused. "Little Zhao Zhao, you’re quite the sweet-talker. And you know when to be flexible."
Tan You wasn’t the least bit offended. She understood perfectly well that if you want to learn something, you have to be willing to swallow your pride.
Never mind what dangers Jing Yue might be facing; back on the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, Tan You once again began to study with grueling intensity. When she said she wanted to comprehend the Dao of Space, she meant it, starting right from the very beginning.
Seeing how serious Tan You was, her friends immediately kicked off a competitive race of their own. ’We’re already so far behind Ahzhao. If we don’t hurry and catch up now, are we just going to let the gap grow even wider?’
’By then, there won’t even be a place for us by Ahzhao’s side.’ With the younger generation from the Demon Market of the lower realm also catching up, it was safe to say that every single one of her old friends was now cultivating with every ounce of their strength.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time for the All-Clan Grand Tournament. On the eve of the competition, Tan You finally gained her own understanding of the Dao of Space. She couldn’t help but think, ’There are so many small worlds in this universe. Perhaps the world I live in is just a single speck of dust.’
’But doesn’t this speck of dust contain countless people and events? So, could I travel through this speck of dust?’ As she pondered this, Tan You’s head began to ache. Clearly, this was a level of understanding that was currently beyond her grasp.
"Ahzhao, we need to return to the clan," Bai Ze informed Tan You half a year before the Grand Tournament. "A voice transmission came from the clan. We have to go back and prepare, to make sure we compete in our absolute peak condition."
Tan You had been thinking the same thing. "Third Uncle told me about it yesterday, too. We’re planning to leave at noon. Why don’t we go back together? With Third Uncle leading the way, it’ll save us the trouble of traveling on our own."
She made a slicing gesture with her hand. "He just makes one little tear, and boom, we’re back in our clan’s territory."
And as she made the motion, a tiny rift tore open beside her hand.
Jin Zhen glanced over. "Not bad. You’re starting to get the hang of it. But the space isn’t stable enough. If you entered that spatial channel and it was hit by an external force, you’d have a very hard time getting out of the rift."
Tan You understood. "That’s why I won’t use it casually. Using an unmastered technique like this would just be asking for trouble."
Jin Zhen appreciated Tan You’s prudence. "Good, very good. Since everyone’s here, shall we be on our way?"
Just after Jin Zhen tore open a spatial rift and led everyone away from the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, a man in white robes suddenly appeared where they had vanished. The man stared at the now-sealed rift and couldn’t help but frown. "They certainly left in a hurry."
The newcomer was, of course, Jing Yue. After being tossed into spatial turbulence by Jin Zhen, he had expended a great deal of effort just to make it back to the Immortal-Demon Battlefield. He never expected that he would be a single step too late, that Tan You and the others from the Demon Clan would have already left.
"The All-Clan Grand Tournament? Then we’ll settle this at the tournament." Jing Yue murmured, then quickly vanished from the Immortal-Demon Battlefield. And on the battlefield, the endless fighting raged on, with no one paying the slightest attention to what had just occurred.
