Chapter 1459 -1368: Reinforcements Descend the Mountain

Sitting on the high-back chair with mahogany silk cushions at Holy Grail Heights, Serafe propped her right hand against her cheek but remained silent.

After midnight, the wind rose. Though it cleared much of the smoke, it also parted the clouds that veiled the moonlight.

The moonlight poured onto the earth like a floodgate unleashed.

“Your Majesty,” the clan elder beside her was still uneasy, “this Konyaz, constantly defeated against the Holy Alliance, this decisive battle is of great significance, can he really…”

“The more defeats in battle, the more sophisticated the strategy.” Serafe waved her hand, “Trust those you use, and do not use those you distrust.”

“But the previous attack on Narran’s army resulted in failures…”

“Fallen soldiers lament, lamenting soldiers conquer—no more persuasion. When I say I trust him, I mean complete trust.”

“But here we are indeed suffering heavy losses.”

Serafe said nothing further.

Watching the moonlight gradually illuminate the battlefield, she silently calculated the troops in her heart.

It was now past two in the morning, and though she didn’t know the Holy Alliance’s losses, she was aware of the losses on the Royal Court’s side.

Already over 10,000 vampire soldiers from the Royal Court had completely withdrawn from the battlefield and wouldn’t be able to fight for at least three days.

Whether dead or gravely injured, the result was the same.

These casualties were concentrated among the clan army that had descended from the heights and the Royal Palace army. Meanwhile, the reserve of over 20,000 on the heights remained unscathed.

What pained Serafe most was at least fifty-six Blood Titans had died entirely on the South Line battlefield.

That’s fifty-six in total; when she first received the list, Serafe counted it seven or eight times.

She had created only 333 Blood Titans, each requiring her utmost effort and dedication.

In a literal sense, her life’s energies.

If she still possessed Lilith’s Heart, this expenditure wouldn’t mean much.

But now she was merely mortal, nearly every blood extraction cost her a bit of lifelong vitality.

After making these 333 Blood Titans, she would likely never be able to create new Titans again, nor would there be any need for new Titans.

Previously, she had lost nearly fifty in countless battles against the Holy Alliance and the Empire.

Yet this was just one battle, one South Line battlefield, and in about eight hours, fifty-six were lost.

Throughout the years of conflict between the Empire and Royal Court, only twenty-three had ever been killed.

If this continues, perhaps a hundred Blood Titans would be wiped out on the South Line.

Konyaz had previously sent word that not a single member of the reserve on the heights should be moved until pushing into River Heart Island.

This made it hard for the elite Royal Palace army to stay unsettled, with the angel envoys petitioning Serafe in shifts, carrying grievances about Konyaz.

Yet, it’s not as if Konyaz is incompetent.

Although she fully entrusted the military affairs to Konyaz, Serafe could never completely ignore the South Line.

Regarding the South Line battlefield, she sometimes knew more than Konyaz.

She possessed the ability to link with high-level vampire souls, using their perspective to observe.

Utilizing the eyes of the high-level vampires present, Serafe had fully grasped the battle at hand.

She knew that both the soldiers of the Royal Palace army and Konyaz had done their utmost.

Even if it were her, she might not do better.

The battlefield was exceedingly fierce, surpassing any of similar scale battles in Imperial history.

They were killing madly, on both the South Line and the North Line.

The Holy Alliance’s forces were seasoned troops, led by renowned generals forged in hundreds of battles.

The Royal Palace army absorbed the premier fighters from the previous Royal Court military and elite from various clans and even human nobles.

Though the commanders of these Royal Palace troops were inexperienced, they had adopted a similar tactical system to the Holy Alliance’s advanced officers, engaging in numerous high-intensity wars locally.

After this period of brewing, the combat strength and morale of both sides had peaked.

Next was a raw collision.

Don’t talk about the Holy Alliance’s unorthodox ways—the Royal Court also had Blood Titans.

It’s all part of power; if I have it, why don’t you?

Among the continuous drumbeat of military music and cannon fire, the night wind whipped up flames and smoke, creating beacons on the battlefield.

The flashes of Sun Bullets repeatedly illuminated the ground, leaving silhouettes of charging or fallen soldiers.

“Charge, Lilith is with us!”

“Eternal Lord supreme!”

“Heaven bless our king!”

Stepping into the dark river water sticky with blood, slaughter was everywhere.

Night flares scattered like water on the riverbed, washing over Royal Court soldiers, as some Blood Titans had landed on the sandbanks.

They roared, aiming their scatterguns at the shooting Holy Alliance soldiers and pulled the trigger.

The blasting pellets punctured the Holy Alliance soldiers who couldn’t squat behind low walls, creating bloody holes and spraying blood arrows.

Although the Holy Alliance soldiers wore iron helmets and chest armor, it was meant for ordinary blood contract firearms.

The Blood Titans’ scatterguns were clearly beyond this category.

But the laughter of that Blood Titan lasted only a few seconds before he heard several low-frequency whooshing sounds.

Three electric spears rushed towards him. He only managed to knock down one, but one hit his upper arm and another hit his abdomen.

Explosive electric light burst forth, causing his heavy arm to fly off, and after the white light dissipated, a massive charred hole was left in his abdomen.

When his vision gradually recovered, the last scene the Flesh Titan saw was the Holy Alliance Long Halberd Soldiers raising their halberds high and countless Royal Court warriors charging through water.

It wasn’t just this beachhead, from the north side to the south side of the entire river isle, it was the same scenario.

Not only the river isle, but further to the north across narrow river segments, and further south at Lake Corchin, electric light, firelight, and bloodlight equally lit up.

Bodies floated in the river, pursued by joyful fish and shrimp.

If we looked at the entire battlefield, even the northern line was the same; the aggressive Holy Alliance’s central battle group pushed the clan army back step by step.

Dust clouds rose, lead bullets and night glow bullets flew around, the night wind became even fiercer, causing both sides’ beards and hair to fly in the air.

Whether they were Holy Alliance soldiers or Royal Court soldiers, they kept wading or climbing forward, heads down, gripping their guns tightly, moving forward step by step.

Lead bullets and night glow bullets shot alternately, war cries mixed with footsteps, continuously charging and counter-charging.

Bayonets and blood race axes and spears crossed, Flesh Titan racing wildly across the battlefield where electric spears flew.

Every time they barely steadied a foothold, or repelled a wave of Holy Alliance attack, the next wave of bombardment and assault would come almost relentlessly.

This even left many vampires in a daze; are you vampires or are we vampires?

Don’t you need rest? But we vampires need to drink blood!

They didn’t know, however, that the Holy Alliance had an incredibly precise control over the deployment and rotation to ensure quality in each charge.

Besides, the Holy Alliance troops were basically all trained in breath spells, and if nothing else can be said, morale and endurance absolutely dominate the continent.

Turning his gaze southward, Serafe rose to his feet, biting his finger, and pointed south.

It was clearly just three or five drops of blood, yet they were thick like mercury and even glossy.

They lifted into the air, transforming into clouds of blood mist, then through the assistance of other high-ranking vampires nearby, turned into blood clouds drifting toward the southern battlefield.

This blood cloud spell, to humans, was acid rain, but to vampires, it was refreshing nectar after a long drought.

With such a simple spell, Serafe staggered a bit after casting it.

“Konyaz, don’t let me down.”

The blood clouds passed through the night sky, resisting the night wind.

As Holy Alliance priests shouted and cheered to prepare for another push, they noticed blood clouds drifting overhead.

The scarlet, putrid rain fell, streaming across the hands of Holy Alliance soldiers, bringing a sensation of candle-like burning.

Yet the vampire assault wave that had been retreating halted, they cheered and raised their faces to welcome it.

Under Konyaz’s judgment, he immediately ordered another counterattack.

The exhausted Holy Alliance soldiers gritted their teeth and picked up their spooled guns again: “Come on, white skins!”

The originally slowing Royal Court momentum became intense once more.

Charge, countercharge, occupation, reoccupation.

Under the blood clouds and rain, the scenes continued to unfold, even to the very end.

After releasing the blood cloud spell, Serafe was almost half-asleep and dozing in her chair.

Until she woke up, clenching the Holy Alliance-made pocket watch in her hand, looking down at it: “It’s three o’clock, just over two hours until daylight…”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“What’s the report? Have we entered the river isle?”

“The north line is holding on with difficulty, the south line casualties are nearing twenty thousand, about to enter the river isle…”

“Not broken through yet!” Serafe’s voice abruptly rose eight pitches, “What’s Konyaz doing?!”

“The Holy Alliance soldiers are incredibly stubborn,” the messenger explained hastily, “but the enemy’s repeaters have stopped firing, we’re just that last bit of force away from breaking through. Please wait a little longer, just a little longer and…”

Serafe raised her hand, interrupting him.

The once noisy clan elders and angel envoys now remained quiet as chickens.

Because they all could see, with just a nap, Serafe’s previously tight and fair skin suddenly bore many wrinkles, and even age spots appeared.

Serafe tried to stand up, but the hand on the armrest lost strength, causing her to plop back down.

Suddenly, she felt a premonition—within a week, her end would likely come.

“Your Majesty, your Majesty… we can’t drag this out any longer; if we do, we’ll lose our advantage in forces.”

“Your Majesty… it’s a lost cause, we should retreat…”

“Your Majesty, the enemy has sent everything; we have twenty thousand idly placed on the high ground… now that the enemy is weary, it’s time to act!”

“Your Majesty! Lord Konyaz said the reserves must remain intact.”

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty, Your Majesty…”

The continual cries of “Your Majesty” rang in her ears, seemingly both distant and close, like the symphony of clanging bells and buzzing mosquitoes at once.

Serafe, annoyed, suddenly slammed the armrest: “Silence!”

Once peace returned, she spoke: “Give me the last two drops of Holy Grail Blood… then… then…”

She looked toward the south line, her vision seemingly doubled, could fate be aiding Horn?

It had to be now!

Taking a deep breath, Serafe didn’t look at the chicken skin wrinkles on her hand, instead she ordered: “…have the Ninth and Eleventh Royal Palace Army… descend to support the southern line.”

The last chance, it can only be a gamble now.
