Chapter 80: Chapter 79: The Overbearing President’s Little Wildcat 20

"My apologies for the interruption, Mr. Lu. The police have a few more details they’d like to go over with you. Is now a convenient time?"

Assistant Wu stood at the doorway, not taking a single step inside.

"Have them wait for me in the reception room. I’ll be right there."

Lu Youheng checked the surveillance footage one more time, making sure no clips of his wife and children could ever be seen by the public. Only then did he select a few frames and fabricate a scene to make it look like the kidnappers had destroyed the surveillance system beforehand.

’Everything has to line up perfectly. As a man, I have to protect my wife and kids!’

After finishing all this, Lu Youheng finally left the surveillance room.

The moment he left, Liu Wanqing snuck in.

"System, hurry up and pull up that footage! I want the whole world to know Lu Youheng married a monster!"

[You absolute idiot. Even if you get the footage, Lu Youheng can just deny it and tell everyone it’s an AI-generated video. What standing would you have to expose him?]

"But this is the perfect leverage to threaten Ji Xiaosong. That woman is just a seemingly idle housewife. All she does is read all day; she’s completely useless in my eyes. What gives her the right to be Lu Youheng’s wife? I just need to find the right moment. I’ll use this secret to ruin her reputation, and Lu Youheng, considering his own fame and interests, will surely weigh the pros and cons. Then he’ll discard her without a second thought."

[So you’re just going to save it as leverage to use later?]

"Of course!"

[Fine, I’ll pull it up for you.]

Strings of code flashed before Liu Wanqing’s eyes. A moment later, a large red X appeared in her vision.

"System, what does this mean?"

[It means the data has been manually and completely deleted. The hard drive itself was even damaged, so I can’t recover it.]

"Didn’t you tell me your technology was invincible in this world? How can you not even fix a simple surveillance recording?"

[Even if I were to restore it, there has to be something *to* restore! The hard drive is broken. How am I supposed to fix that? The person who just left the surveillance room was Lu Youheng. It’s highly likely he discovered Ji Xiaosong’s uniqueness and deleted it himself.]

"So you’re saying Lu Youheng found out Ji Xiaosong is abnormal?"

Liu Wanqing’s eyes lit up. "He must be scared! Who in this world can actually fly? She has to be a monster!"

[Shut up! Don’t you know the rules? No new spirits after the founding of Jian Country! Are you trying to make it so we can never cross over into your world?]

Without any warning, a furious roar came from the System. Liu Wanqing flinched violently as if struck by lightning.

A terrified jolt shot up her spine. She instinctively recoiled, her head nearly sinking into her shoulders. Her eyes were wide with terror and confusion.

"I get it, I’ll be more careful. What do we do now? You were the only reason I could even get into the building today. It won’t be so easy for me to get in again."

[What’s there to be afraid of? This time, we took Lu Youheng’s three children, hoping to pose as their saviors to get close to him, but the plan failed. In that case, next time, let’s just kill Ji Xiaosong and all three kids.]

"Kill them? I... I’m scared..."

[Hah. Coward. Weren’t you the one who said Ji Xiaosong was useless? The bond between her and Lu Youheng is mainly maintained by their children. As long as we get rid of the kids, their emotional connection will be severed. For a man, with no love and no children, there’s no reason to stay involved with that woman. This will completely cut the ties between Ji Xiaosong and Lu Youheng. If you want to get anywhere, this is the only way.]

"I... I need to think about it..."

[Suit yourself. Now you need to leave quickly. You got nothing out of today, so you can’t afford to get caught.]

Liu Wanqing scanned her surroundings, then left directly under the System’s cover.

To ensure a clean and unnoticed getaway, Liu Wanqing had been very cautious in her planning.

She had parked her car in a deserted, structurally complex underground garage for the sake of concealment.

After scouting the area multiple times, she had chosen a secluded parking spot in the northwest corner.

The signal here was weak, which would limit tracking methods like phone positioning. Moreover, the spot was relatively isolated, making it easy to enter and exit without attracting attention, allowing for a quick escape after her operation.

She nervously made her way to the car. Just as she sat down in the driver’s seat, a woman’s voice suddenly spoke from behind her.

"What are you up to, Miss Liu, skulking around like this?"

Hearing that voice, the blood in Liu Wanqing’s veins instantly froze. Her heart seized as if crushed by a large, invisible hand.

She slowly turned her head, her stiff neck making a CREAKING sound. Her face was twisted in terror, her eyes wide as saucers in utter disbelief.

When her gaze fell on the rearview mirror, her pupils contracted. There was Ji Xiaosong, sitting calmly in the back seat as if it were her own car.

Ji Xiaosong looked at Liu Wanqing calmly, the corners of her lips turning up in a faint, almost imperceptible smile, as if she had everything under control.

"Ji... Ji Xiaosong, how are you here?"

Liu Wanqing’s lips trembled, her voice laced with unconcealable fear. Her teeth chattered uncontrollably, making a soft CLACKING sound.

She had watched Ji Xiaosong dispassionately deal with the kidnappers holding her sons. She’d looked like someone who had climbed out of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.

’It’s utterly terrifying!’

’Why isn’t she at home with her kids? How did she suddenly appear in my car?’

But Ji Xiaosong was unhurried. She gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then leaned forward, bringing her face close to the driver’s seat. Her gaze was like a torch, boring straight into Liu Wanqing’s eyes, and her tone was flat yet carried an undeniable sense of pressure:

"Miss Liu, did you think your little schemes could escape my notice? I’ve been watching you since the moment you started plotting."

As she spoke, she tilted her head slightly, a flicker of amusement in her eyes. "I’m very curious. What is it you’re really trying to do?"

Liu Wanqing’s hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her breathing grew ragged and chaotic, as if she might suffocate at any moment.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but found her throat too dry to make a sound. Beads of sweat rolled down from her forehead, tracing paths across her pale cheeks.

"I... I wasn’t trying to do anything. I just wanted to be Mr. Lu’s... mistress."

The word "mistress" seemed to be squeezed from between her teeth.

She had no idea what consequences she would face for lying, but whenever the image of Ji Xiaosong riding the clouds and mist flashed in her mind, a primal fear would well up inside her, erasing any thought of concealment.

Under the threat of Ji Xiaosong’s mysterious and unfathomable power, she knew that any lie could bring about an unforeseen disaster. So, she forced herself to swallow the falsehoods that had been on the tip of her tongue.

"Mrs. Lu, a man as outstanding as Mr. Lu has countless women wanting to get involved with him. I... I’m just one of them. If you mind, Mrs. Lu..."
