When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal
Chapter 247: The Crazies 7
Wu Daniu had been waiting to see what Ji Xiaosong would do, not because anyone here was afraid of her, but because the incident with Li Zhixiao had far-reaching consequences.
Unless they massacred the entire village, the matter with Li Zhixiao would remain a potential problem.
But if they could appease Ji Xiaosong now, things would be different.
However, this was a principle that Xiao Mumu did not understand.
Ji Xiaosong watched Xiao Mumu’s hysteria and sneered inwardly.
She knew that the more of a scene Xiao Mumu made, the more unreasonable she would appear.
And she could use this opportunity to secure more benefits for herself.
Ji Xiaosong suddenly lowered her head, a glint of tears in her eyes, her voice tinged with grievance.
“Miss Xiao, why must you be so aggressive? I am just a simple country girl, truly unworthy of arguing with you. Since you look down on me so much, I have no face to remain here. You are powerful and influential, so you can bully others and force me to back down again and again. But I… am unwilling to retreat any further!”
After speaking, she spun around abruptly and ran towards the gates of the General Mansion.
Seeing this, Wu Daniu and Wu Chufeng were momentarily stunned. They quickly shouted, “Miss Ji, what are you doing?”
But Ji Xiaosong acted as if she hadn’t heard and charged straight to the front of the General Mansion’s gates.
She stood at the entrance, her voice filled with grief and indignation, “My live-in husband was stolen by General Wu’s granddaughter—”
Just as Ji Xiaosong’s voice was about to echo across the entire front of the General Mansion, a woman in rich, elegant clothes suddenly rushed out from the crowd and clamped a hand over Ji Xiaosong’s mouth.
An ordinary person would never have been able to do that; Ji Xiaosong had deliberately let the woman cover her mouth.
The woman had coarse features, with a slight resemblance to Xiao Mumu in her eyes and brows. It was none other than Xiao Mumu’s mother, Wu Daniu’s daughter, Wu Wanqing.
Wu Wanqing looked flustered, her tone rushed. “Miss, we can talk things out. Why must you cause such a huge scene?”
With her mouth covered, a cold glint flashed in Ji Xiaosong’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a wronged expression.
She struggled a few times, her voice muffled, “You… You’re all bullies… I… I don’t want to live anymore…”
Seeing this, Wu Wanqing quickly let go, her tone placating.
“Miss, don’t be rash! Whatever it is, let’s go inside the mansion to talk. Don’t make a scene out here.”
Ji Xiaosong lowered her head, her eyes filled with tears, her voice choked with sobs.
“Go inside to talk? You are people of the General Mansion. How could a simple country girl like me dare to enter? What if I go in and can’t get back out?”
Wu Wanqing’s expression changed slightly at these words, but she quickly composed herself.
She forced a smile, her tone pleading.
“Miss, rest assured, with me here, I will absolutely not let you be wronged. Let’s go inside the mansion and talk properly. I will definitely give you a satisfactory explanation.”
Ji Xiaosong looked up, a hint of hesitation in her eyes. “Really?”
Wu Wanqing nodded hastily. “Really! I guarantee it in the name of the Wu Family. I will absolutely not let you be wronged.”
Only then did Ji Xiaosong reluctantly nod, her voice still full of grievance. “Then… alright, then.”
Wu Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief and quickly took Ji Xiaosong’s hand, leading her back into the General Mansion.
Wu Daniu and Wu Chufeng stood to the side, watching everything with cold eyes.
A playful smile touched the corner of Wu Chufeng’s mouth as he said in a low voice to Wu Daniu, “Father, your daughter certainly knows how to put on an act.”
Wu Daniu snorted, his tone laced with dissatisfaction.
“If she really knew how to act, she wouldn’t have let Mumu cause such a scene.”
Wu Chufeng shrugged, his tone light. “Still, Miss Ji’s move was brilliant. Now, the General Mansion’s reputation is thoroughly ruined, thanks to her.”
Wu Daniu’s face darkened, a hint of anger in his voice.
“Enough with the sarcastic remarks! Hurry inside and see what’s happening. Don’t let this get any bigger.”
Wu Chufeng smiled and followed Wu Daniu into the General Mansion.
By now, a crowd of onlookers had gathered in front of the General Mansion, all buzzing with discussion.
“What did that young woman say just now? That her live-in husband was stolen?”
“I think she said General Wu’s granddaughter stole her fiancé and left her with nowhere to turn.”
“Tsk, tsk. I never thought something like this would happen in the General Wu Mansion. It just goes to show you can know a person’s face, but not their heart.”
“That young woman looked so pitiful. I wonder how General Wu will handle this.”
The onlookers’ gossip filtered into the General Mansion, and Wu Daniu’s expression grew even more grim.
He strode into the main hall and saw Wu Wanqing pulling Ji Xiaosong to a seat.
But as soon as Wu Wanqing pulled Ji Xiaosong into the main hall, her gentle smile vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, harsh expression.
She let go of Ji Xiaosong’s hand and stared at her coldly, her voice laced with threat. “Miss Ji, I suggest you know your place and stop causing trouble. A mere country girl like you is worthy of running wild in the General Mansion? If you know what’s good for you, get out now. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being discourteous!”
Ji Xiaosong looked up, a cold glint flashing in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a wronged expression.
She said in a low voice, “What do you mean by this? Didn’t you just promise to give me a satisfactory explanation? How could you now…”
Wu Wanqing sneered, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “A satisfactory explanation? Who do you think you are, to deserve an explanation from me? Let me tell you, this matter ends here. If you dare cause any more trouble, you’d better watch your life!”
Ji Xiaosong lowered her head, her eyes filled with tears, her voice choked with sobs.
“How could you do this? You clearly promised me just now…”
Wu Wanqing waved her hand impatiently, her voice filled with disgust. “Alright, stop playing the victim here! Scram, and don’t let me see you again!”
Just then, Wu Daniu and Wu Chufeng walked in.
When Wu Daniu saw Wu Wanqing’s attitude, his face darkened instantly, his voice laced with anger. “Wanqing, what are you doing? Miss Ji is a guest I invited in. How can you treat her like this?”
Hearing Wu Daniu’s words, Wu Wanqing’s expression changed slightly, but she quickly composed herself.
She forced a smile, her voice tinged with grievance. “Father, don’t be fooled by her! She’s just a country girl who came here to cause trouble, clearly intending to ruin our General Mansion’s reputation!”
Wu Daniu looked at her coldly, his voice stern and imposing. “Wanqing, you have greatly disappointed me. Miss Ji has been wronged today, and we ought to give her a proper explanation. But you? Not only did you not help her, you threatened her instead? Do you even see me as your father anymore?”
Wu Wanqing was choked by Wu Daniu’s words, her face turning ashen.
She bit her lip, a flash of unwillingness in her eyes, before her expression shifted back to one of grievance, her voice choked with sobs.
“Father, how can you say that to me? Have you forgotten? Back then, while you were away at war, Mother and I wandered from place to place, suffering so much hardship. The two of us had only each other to survive, enduring endless scorn and bullying. And now, you treat me like this… for an outsider?”
