Chapter 147: Chapter 144: The Apocalypse Big Boss Arrives 21

"Even without my superpower, I have other means."

Ji Xiaosong now had a full understanding of these three modified zombies. She quickly scanned her surroundings, her gaze locking onto a mountain of discarded metal parts piled up beside the gas station.

She muttered an incantation as her hands flew through a series of seals, and an invisible Spiritual Power surged from her body.

Like a formless, giant hand, this Spiritual Power precisely manipulated the scrap metal. The parts rose into the air and shot toward the zombies with incredible speed.

Using her keen perception of space and matter, Ji Xiaosong expertly guided the metal parts around the zombies’ electromagnetic interference fields to strike their vital points directly.

A shard of metal precisely hit one zombie’s dynamic visual sensor. Sparks flew, and the creature’s movements became sluggish and chaotic.

Another zombie’s micro-syringe was sent flying by a high-speed piece of metal, completely disabling its ability to release neurotoxins.

As for the last zombie, a block of metal controlled by Ji Xiaosong’s Spiritual Power slammed into the eerie blue chip on the back of its neck. The chip shattered, and the zombie crashed to the ground, motionless.

"Bye-bye, modified zombies."

Ji Xiaosong condensed a Spiritual Power Ball at her fingertip and tossed it into the gas station. The resulting shockwave blew the roof clean off.

Zhou Jian Country’s bloodcurdling scream echoed from the wreckage. His legs were pinned beneath a collapsed steel beam.

Ji Xiaosong picked up the pulse controller that had rolled nearby and noticed coordinates for the Southern City Base flashing on its screen.

Upon closer inspection, she discovered that the zombies’ data had been continuously transmitted in real time.

"You put trackers in all the modified bodies? And there are more than just three?"

Ji Xiaosong approached Zhou Jian Country, lifting his chin with the ice blade in her hand. "And you set a trap at the base, hoping to lure me there?"

Zhou Jian Country let out a maniacal laugh, black blood dribbling from the corners of his mouth. "The entire base’s water supply... has been injected with your DNA sample... By now, it should..."

The sound of a distant explosion reached them. Ji Xiaosong turned to look at the thick smoke rising over South City.

The controller suddenly let out a piercing shriek as the remaining seventy-six red dots on the map began to rapidly close in.

"These children... will carry your scent... and find everyone you love..."

Zhou Jian Country’s pupils began to dilate. Suddenly, a heavy snow started to fall.

An ice blade pierced the controller, and Ji Xiaosong immediately opened a channel to the base. "This is Ji Xiaosong! Cut off the secondary water supply pipeline, I repeat, cut it off immediately—"

She looked at her dying nemesis and, finally, plunged an Ice Crystal into her own arm.

Blood-tinged hailstones hammered the earth as the young woman smiled in the storm. "Uncle Zhou, I hear that people eaten alive by zombies... don’t even get the chance to become one themselves. Why don’t you experience it for yourself?"

As the first zombie, drawn by the scent of blood, sank its teeth into Zhou Jian Country’s arm, Ji Xiaosong turned and walked into the blizzard.

The sounds of tearing flesh and crazed screams erupted behind her. With a flick of her finger, she conjured an ice coffin, leaving this obsessive father with a final shred of dignity.

The water supply issue at Southern City Base needed to be resolved at once. Ji Xiaosong mounted Rongrong and swiftly returned to Southern City Base.

Before Xiao Qin Feng could even process what was happening, Ji Xiaosong had already used a Cleaning Technique to purify the base.

"Miss Ji, what happened?"

Ji Xiaosong had no time to explain. "Base Commander Xiao, Zhou Jian Country secretly built a lab dedicated to modifying zombies. I’ve already dealt with three, but there are seventy-six more. I know their locations and must go handle them now. Guard the base. I’ll be back soon."

With that, Ji Xiaosong mounted Rongrong and sped off, following the red dots on the map.

Ji Xiaosong’s fingertip traced an ice-blue trajectory in the air, and Rongrong vaulted into the sky.

She glanced down at the scarlet coordinates on the map, a frosty smile forming on her lips. "Seventy-six? Just enough for a fireworks show."

First, Ji Xiaosong found thirty mechanical zombies. They erupted from the earth, the electromagnetic turrets on their alloy spines casting an eerie glow.

The young woman landed lightly on the tip of a cannon barrel, an Ice Lotus blooming beneath her feet.

"Thunder Skill—Nine Heavens Introduction."

She brought two fingers together and tapped the space between her eyebrows. Instantly, dark clouds roiled and tore across the sky.

A massive bolt of lightning funneled down through the electromagnetic cannon, melting the zombie’s metal frame into crimson slag amidst serpents of blue-violet electricity.

Before the charred remains could even hit the ground, they were swept up by the blizzard and scattered as icy dust.

Next, following the tracker, she found twenty liquid zombies on a river. Coated in corrosive slime, they were climbing the steel cables of a bridge, which was collapsing with a loud SIZZLE.

Ji Xiaosong dove toward the churning river, the jade hairpin in her hair suddenly expanding into a turquoise longbow.

"Azure Dragon Breath."

She tore off a piece of a rainbow, nocking it as an arrow. The river itself erupted into eighteen water dragons that surged skyward.

The liquid zombies were atomized into countless droplets by the high-pressure water blades. Ji Xiaosong flicked an Ice Soul into each drop, and under the sun, they exploded into a sky of rainbow-colored ice diamonds.

The final twenty-six were radiation zombies. They were at the Southern City Nuclear Power Plant, smashing through containment walls with eerie green halos around their heads as toxic fog seeped from cracks in the ground.

Riding Rongrong, the young woman charged straight into the reactor core, tore open a lead plate with her bare hands, and pulled out a uranium fuel rod.

"Heaven Burning."

She breathed on the "torch" in her hand, igniting it. The nuclear energy, constrained by her Spiritual Power, collapsed and reformed into a golden-red fire phoenix.

The radiation zombies twisted and vaporized in the brilliant flash of the chain reaction. In the next instant, the rising mushroom cloud was sealed by an Ice Coffin Curse, freezing it into a translucent amber sculpture.

When the last red dot winked out on the map, Ji Xiaosong was sitting on the edge of a 300-meter-tall cooling tower, munching on a tanghulu.

The boiling coolant pool below suddenly froze into a perfect mirror, reflecting the hawthorn pit she casually tossed aside.

The pit streaked through the air like a crimson tracer, accurately piercing the central chip of a lone straggler zombie three kilometers away.

With the last one finished, Ji Xiaosong swept her Divine Sense across all of South City. Confirming that there were no other modified zombies left, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The blizzard continued to rage. Gu Lin and the others had already returned to the base.

Ji Xiaosong glanced at the unceasing storm, raised a Barrier, and mounted Rongrong, preparing to head back.

"Song, this blizzard is just getting stronger. A cold snap is probably on its way. The national supplies might not be adequate. Shouldn’t you go deliver a batch of cold-weather gear to the other bases first, just to be safe?"

Rongrong suddenly voiced the suggestion, and Ji Xiaosong readily agreed.

"With you, we should be able to finish all the deliveries in three days. Let’s go to Southern City Base first and tell Gu Lin, so he doesn’t worry."

Ji Xiaosong first returned to Southern City Base. After explaining the situation to Gu Lin, she immediately departed again.

This time, Rongrong flew much faster. Ji Xiaosong had contacted the various base commanders in advance, so she simply dropped off the supplies upon arrival and left.

The blizzard continued for a week without a break. Fortunately, the supplies Ji Xiaosong delivered arrived just in time, securing the lives of all the survivors.

The temperature across the country plummeted with the blizzard’s arrival, dropping from zero degrees Celsius at the start to -79°C half a month later.

As the weather grew ever colder, the task of rebuilding South City became increasingly difficult.
