Chapter 134: Chapter 133: Doomsday Bigshot Arrives 10

Ji Xiaosong and Gu Lin both knew it was impossible to calm the survivors at a time like this.

So, Ji Xiaosong simply took out a Gold and Silver Flower seed and began to grow it.

A jade-green light suddenly burst from her fingertips, and the Gold and Silver Flower seed began to spin wildly three inches off the ground.

Gu Lin’s Thunder Ability struck first, carving through the approaching zombie horde and clearing a ten-meter-diameter vacuum for the expanding seed.

"Take a deep breath!"

Ji Xiaosong’s sharp cry, laced with an icy tremor, echoed into every corner.

Before the survivors could even react, the Gold and Silver Flower exploded in a burst of unnatural growth. Its main stem split into twenty-eight fluorescent vines, and every leaf pulsed with faint, golden energy veins.

A nurse performing CPR on a pregnant woman was suddenly enveloped by leaves, a transparent, spherical barrier forming around her. Inside, an oxygen circulation system materialized.

Most shocking of all were the flowers. Buds the size of rice grains bloomed in an instant, transforming into two-meter-wide lotus platforms made of Ice Crystal.

As three zombies broke through the defensive line and lunged for the stretcher team, the three nearest Gold and Silver Flowers suddenly sprayed a fluorescent pollen with a purifying effect.

The moment the pollen enveloped the zombies, their rotting muscle tissue gradually turned waxy, melting into puddles of gray liquid that quickly evaporated.

"Grab onto the vine nodes!"

Gu Lin’s combat boot crushed another zombie’s skull as he turned and shouted to the crowd.

Before he had even finished speaking, the leaves enveloping the survivors contracted into cocoons, while the main stem of the Gold and Silver Flower twisted into the shape of a giant slingshot.

Ji Xiaosong slammed her hands onto an energy totem on the ground. The Ice Crystal Hairpin in her hair shattered into starlight. The entire mutated Gold and Silver Flower, carrying forty-six glowing cocoons, launched into the air. It struck the Ice Crystal shield covering the inpatient building’s dome, creating a rippling exit.

A soldier providing cover fire with a heavy machine gun stared wide-eyed. After landing, the Gold and Silver Flower cocoons didn’t open. Instead, they took root, forming temporary defensive fortresses.

Inside the leafy barriers, a light purple nutrient fluid was secreted, and the festering wounds of the most severely injured survivors began to heal at a visible rate.

Even more miraculously, the heart monitor for the pregnant woman’s unborn child suddenly returned to normal. The Ice Crystal lotus flower enveloping her continuously changed colors, as if simulating the environment of a womb.

Ji Xiaosong said to the accompanying personnel, "Quick, escort them out of here. There aren’t many zombies left. Mr. Gu and I can handle them."

The survivors, still in their cocoons, were loaded onto the back of a large truck. This was a precaution in case any of them had hidden injuries from the zombies.

Keeping them separated like this also ensured they wouldn’t infect one another.

One of the accompanying Superpower User special-forces soldiers hopped into the driver’s seat and started the engine. The truck let out a low rumble.

Another soldier sat in the passenger seat, walkie-talkie in hand, maintaining constant contact with Ji Xiaosong and Gu Lin, who had remained at the hospital.

"We’re on our way. ETA to the base is forty minutes."

Back at the hospital, Gu Lin and Ji Xiaosong began their first joint mission with the remaining Superpower User special-forces soldiers. Fortunately, the soldiers’ training was rigorous; they barely reacted to disgusting creatures like the zombies.

"When you deal with zombies, it’s best to incinerate them," Ji Xiaosong advised the others as she dispatched another one. "Don’t leave anything behind, or the virus on their bodies might still infect regular people."

An hour later, the entire hospital was clear.

They never found the Spiritual System zombie from their initial encounter. Ji Xiaosong searched carefully, but there was no trace of it.

After inspecting the hospital, Gu Lin asked Ji Xiaosong, "Miss Ji, is there a way you can temporarily secure the hospital to keep people out?"

"Why?"

"Once we’ve cleared all the zombies from Chenming City, this hospital will need to be put back into use. At our current pace, we should be able to finish the job within a month. Yongfeng Base can’t house ten million people, so they’ll have to return to Chenming City eventually."

"That’s feasible. How about this: we can set up supply points in various neighborhoods. When people need to exchange for supplies, they can go there. From now on, every time we clear an area, I’ll seal it off. That will also prevent zombies from getting back in."

After they discussed the details, Ji Xiaosong erected a sturdy Barrier around the hospital.

With her current Superpower Level and cultivation, no one in this world should be able to break the Barrier and get inside.

For the next full month, the sounds of battle echoed through the streets and alleys of Chenming City.

Ji Xiaosong and Gu Lin led the charge, spearheading the Superpower Users in a life-or-death struggle against the zombies for every inch of the city.

They left no dark corner unchecked, meticulously searching house by house. Every search was a direct confrontation with danger.

In battle, the Superpower Users each showcased their unique abilities.

The Elemental system Superpower Users wielded powerful forces like fire, frost, and lightning, instantly reducing wave after wave of zombie hordes to Ashes.

Meanwhile, the Strength Type Superpower Users relied on their powerful physiques and incredible explosive strength to rip apart the clawing, lunging zombies with their bare hands, clearing safe paths for their teammates.

After a long and arduous struggle, Chenming City was finally cleared of all zombies.

When the last ordinary zombie fell, a rare peace settled over the city.

However, the mysterious Spiritual System zombie was still nowhere to be found, as if it had vanished from the Mortal World.

Although they hadn’t managed to capture this special zombie, the month-long search had not been for nothing.

Through their observations and battles over the past month, they came to a clear realization: lurking somewhere in this seemingly peaceful city was an intelligent zombie skilled at concealment.

This discovery made Ji Xiaosong and Gu Lin understand one thing clearly: the danger had not truly passed.

After finishing the final sweep, Ji Xiaosong cast a Cleaning Technique on herself, then slumped wearily into the car with Gu Lin, ready to head back to the base.

It was October, but the temperature was already nearing freezing.

Gu Lin’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. In his peripheral vision, he saw Ji Xiaosong curled up in the passenger seat. The wind billowed her gray sweatsuit, making her look like a shivering skylark.

"Put this on."

Gu Lin suddenly stopped the car. He unbuttoned his wool coat with one hand, and as the warm fabric settled onto the young woman’s shoulders, his pinky finger brushed against her cool collarbone.

The unexpected contact made Gu Lin’s throat tighten. A sweet hint of white peach suddenly mingled with the cedar fragrance of the car’s air freshener.

Ji Xiaosong clutched the lapels and lifted them to her nose. "What’s that scent you’re wearing?"

The white puff of her breath fogged the window. As the setting sun filtered through the condensation, it gilded her eyelashes with flecks of gold.

Gu Lin slammed on the brakes.

The red light at the intersection reflected in his pupils, like a dancing flame.

"Don’t move," he said, his voice tight.

In the rearview mirror, her slender neck was nestled in the coat’s cashmere collar, a hint of her pale, delicate earlobe peeking out from between strands of her jet-black hair.

Gu Lin rolled up the window, shielding Ji Xiaosong from the wind.

When they arrived at A7 Villa, Gu Lin slowly stepped out of the car.

Ginkgo trees, which Ji Xiaosong had planted after moving in, grew here. Hers was the only home in the entire Yongfeng Base that had them.

The ginkgo-lined path was covered in fallen leaves, and Gu Lin deliberately slowed his pace.

As a golden leaf drifted down and brushed the ends of Ji Xiaosong’s hair, he reached out to flick it away, only to divert his hand at the last second to brush off his own shoulder instead.

"Aunt Song was asking me last week..."

The wind seemed to swallow his words. He stared at their shadows, which overlapped and separated with each step. "...She asked if you’ve been eating well lately."

"Honestly, my mom..." Ji Xiaosong grumbled with a smile. "I’m a grown woman. Why does she still have to worry about me all the time?"

She turned to shrug off the coat, but Gu Lin placed a hand on her shoulder. "You can give it back tomorrow."
