Chapter 125: Chapter 124: The Apocalyptic Big Shot Arrives 1

With her last mission complete, Ji Xiaosong lay lazily on a hillside, basking in the sun.

Rongrong floated over as usual. "Song, the next world is an apocalypse. The risks are higher, but if you complete the mission, the merit points will be doubled. Will you go?"

"I’ll go. What’s there to be afraid of? We’ll deal with whatever comes our way. We’re going to encounter even higher-risk worlds in the future. There’s no reason to back down now."

"I knew you were the best, Song! I’ll send you to the small world now."

「The Ji Family’s Ancestral Estate」

Today was Ji Xiaosong’s twentieth birthday banquet.

Wine glasses refracted the light of the crystal chandelier, the red wine clinging to the glass in streaks like bloody tears.

Lin Miaomiao’s hand, her nails painted a coral color, reached over, a sapphire bracelet jingling on her wrist.

"Why aren’t you drinking, Xiaosong?"

Ji Xiaosong heard a weak gasp escape her own throat as an excruciating pain exploded from her heart.

The memories of the body’s original owner pierced her sea of consciousness like an ice pick—

In her past life, at this very moment, she had downed the wine, collapsed in her champagne-colored gown, and her mother’s scream had echoed in her ears.

The next day, the apocalypse descended, and her original body turned into a zombie.

For the next ten years, the Ji Family never gave up trying to find a way to save her, even after she had become a zombie.

Just as they finally found an antidote, tragedy struck.

A sudden downpour of acid rain corroded her father’s hands.

His hands, corroded down to the bone by the acid rain, still tightly clutched the antidote, hoping to his last breath that she could be restored to her former self.

Her mother took the antidote, intending to give it to her. But just as she was about to place it in her mouth, Zhou Ziheng appeared out of nowhere.

Her brother fought Zhou Ziheng to the death to protect her but was overpowered. Ultimately, his head burst in Zhou Ziheng’s palm, splattering the scene with blood.

Lin Miaomiao had stepped on her body, a mocking sneer on her face as she said viciously, "A delicate, greenhouse-grown rose like you was always meant to rot in the mire of this apocalypse."

"...I even went out of my way to get an ’82 Lafite." The voice, a blend of reality and memory, made Ji Xiaosong’s stomach turn.

The instant her fingertips touched the rim of the glass, her true form as an Edelweiss ran rampant in her sea of consciousness.

In a flash, she saw grayish-green spores suspended in the red wine—a neurotoxin mixed with irradiated meteorite dust, potent enough to make the bones of ten elephants turn brittle.

CRACK.

A spiderweb of cracks spread across the glass, and a chill condensed from Ji Xiaosong’s Spiritual Energy crept up Lin Miaomiao’s fingertips.

Ji Xiaosong’s hand shot out, seizing her jaw with the precision of a scalpel. As an icicle pried her teeth apart, half a glass of the poisoned wine was forced down her throat.

"Since you love drinking so much,"

She let the shards of ice, mixed with bloody froth, drip from between her fingers. "Why not drink your fill?"

The chandelier suddenly exploded, its crystal fragments hovering in mid-air.

The guests’ screams caught in their throats. They watched as ice crystals formed on the tips of the Ji family’s daughter’s hair, and countless transparent roots shot out from beneath her dress, anchoring themselves in the marble floor.

Lin Miaomiao curled into a ball on the floor, her skin turning waxy at a visible rate.

"Three minutes."

Ji Xiaosong walked on steps of ice toward the head seat, ice-sculpted edelweiss blooming in her wake. "Your spine will melt like a birthday candle."

A horrific scream and the sound of shattering ice rang out simultaneously.

She glanced out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the churning, leaden clouds. The smell of acid rain, mixed with the stench of blood, drifted toward her.

"Xiaosong, what’s wrong with you? How could you do this to me? I’m your best friend!"

Lin Miaomiao stuck her fingers down her throat, trying to force out the wine, but it was utterly useless.

"Best friend? Hah. When you were in bed with my fiancé, Zhou Ziheng, discussing the next generation, did it occur to you then that I was your ’best friend’?"

Her father, Ji Chengguang, rushed over and froze in place at the sight.

’Thank goodness my precious daughter isn’t the one who’s hurt,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I can’t even imagine how I’d fall apart.’

"Song, what did you say Lin Miaomiao and Zhou Ziheng did? How dare they!"

Mother Ji, Song Ya, had been startled by her daughter’s sudden outburst, but after hearing the reason, she agreed that Lin Miaomiao deserved it!

Zhou Ziheng and Ji Xiaosong had been engaged since childhood. It was a union of interests between the Ji and Zhou families.

But in recent years, the Zhou Family had become increasingly powerful, and even Zhou Ziheng’s attitude had changed.

’Thinking about it now, it’s clear the betrayal happened long ago.’

"Yes, Mother. Lin Miaomiao and Zhou Ziheng have been carrying on for a long time. I have no use for a man like that."

Ji Xiaosong said coolly, completely ignoring Lin Miaomiao’s pleas for mercy.

Zhou Ziheng had been talking with Ji Xiaosong’s older brother, Ji Youshu, in the garden. Seeing guests fleeing in every direction, he broke into a sprint toward the banquet hall.

Three minutes were up. The poison was taking full effect.

The first thing Zhou Ziheng saw when he entered was Lin Miaomiao collapsed on the floor like a puddle.

His eyes flew wide, his face a mask of horror and disbelief. He staggered to Lin Miaomiao’s side and hauled her up from the floor, his voice trembling with panic. "Miaomiao! Miaomiao, what’s wrong with you!"

He shook her body violently, as if trying to drag her back from the brink of death.

Lin Miaomiao was already hanging on by a thread. Under Zhou Ziheng’s violent shaking, a faint whimper escaped her throat before she fell silent, her head slumping lifelessly.

Zhou Ziheng froze, seemingly unable to process what had just happened. After a long moment, he gently laid Lin Miaomiao down and slowly rose to his feet. His eyes were bloodshot as he glared at Ji Xiaosong, spitting out each word, "It was you. You killed her!"

He knew perfectly well that Lin Miaomiao had planned to poison Ji Xiaosong today, but he had chosen to play dumb.

He had not only carefully fabricated an alibi beforehand but had also been casually chatting about everything under the sun with Ji Youshu in the garden, as if everything was under his control, just waiting to see the drama unfold.

Now, seeing Ji Xiaosong standing there perfectly fine while Lin Miaomiao was dead was a reality he simply could not accept.

With those words, he charged at Ji Xiaosong like a crazed beast, his hands shaped into claws, desperate to tear her to shreds on the spot.

There was no way Ji Youshu would stand by and watch his sister be threatened. In a flash, he moved like a bolt of black lightning, instantly appearing in front of Ji Xiaosong.

"If you want to lay a hand on my sister, you’ll have to get through me first!"

Ji Youshu’s gaze was ice-cold as he radiated a chilling aura.

But Zhou Ziheng was practically berserk by this point. He paid no heed, simply swinging his fists wildly at Ji Youshu.

Ji Youshu calmly dodged Zhou Ziheng’s attack, then landed a fierce kick to his abdomen.

Zhou Ziheng went flying back several meters like a kite with a snapped string, crashing heavily to the floor.

But he still wouldn’t give up, struggling to his feet to charge once more.

Ji Youshu snorted, dashed forward, and unleashed a barrage of kicks and punches on Zhou Ziheng.

Each blow landed with tremendous force, beating Zhou Ziheng so badly he was powerless to retaliate, left to do nothing but groan in agony on the floor.

Seeing him like this, Ji Youshu understood everything.

He cursed as he continued the beating, "You shameless bastard! You dare betray my sister, and then you dare try to lay a hand on her? Today, I’ll teach you the consequences of messing with the Ji family!"

Only when Ji Youshu had beaten Zhou Ziheng to within an inch of his life did Ji Chengguang finally call him off.

"Alright, that’s enough of a lesson. It’s not worth it to kill him. We’ll keep him around and torture him slowly later. Sooner or later, we’ll finish him off!"
