Chapter 1353: Why I ’Hide’ Behind
Chapter 1353: Why I ’Hide’ Behind
I looked around as the Trasif merchant convoy was preparing to set off once again.
Seabille came over to me, the merchant convoy leader shooting me a sincere smile, “Thank you once again for agreeing to accompany us, Miss Aster.”
I waved at her, “No need for that, we were already heading in the same direction anyway. It’s also safer to travel with more people as well.”
“Still, I have to thank you for agreeing to accompany us. You could have just gone ahead since we’re obviously slowing you down.”
“Oh, it’s not like we’re in a rush anyway, don’t worry about it.”
Right then, one of the Trasifs waved towards us, signalling that we were ready to leave.
I rejoined my girls and we took up escort positions around the caravan before we set off from the village.
We also had five new members of this convoy, namely the Barker sisters who have been giving me bedroom eyes the entire time. Beside them were their own giant chickens pulling their wagon filled with their stuff after their parents had seen them off and wished them good luck.
Seriously… How much can people change in a single night?
Ira and Tsara obviously noticed and they came over to me with odd looks on their faces.
“What happened with those girls?” Ira asked, her eyes narrowed at the five Amrap sisters. “Why are they looking at you like that?”
Tsara turned to me, “Did you tell them that you are a favourite of the Gods as well, Lady Aster?”
I wasn’t sure how to answer them since I don’t know how they would react to the fact that I had basically gone out and… Err… Well… I guess there’s no other way to say this but… I went out and slept with almost their entire family…
And that’s after beating all of them up too…
Fortunately, I didn’t have to say anything because Odeta came along and laughed, “Wahahaha! Seems like they really took a liking to you, Sister Aster!”
Ira gave Odeta a suspicious look, “What happened? What did Aster do?”
Odeta huffed, “Does Sister Aster need to do anything for people to like her?”
I was fully expecting Ira and Tsara to refute her and say something like ’yes, she does’ but… The two of them just looked at each other, shrugged, and then nodded in agreement.
What the heck?! I was expecting the both of you to be the voices of reason here! The both of you have basically already joined my girls in this! Did they brainwash you?!
Well whatever, we’re already moving out and I already have those Amraps to worry about since they were still looking at me and making lewd faces.
Look, look, Isabella even licked her lips while looking at my crotch, don’t think I didn’t see that!!
Girls! Girls!! I need… Crap… Lisa is also looking at me and licking her lips… Ok, I’m basically trapped on both sides…
I’m just glad that they would at least take the escort job seriously while we’re still walking through the forest…
Once again, I was following the convoy at the very back with Ira and Tsara accompanying me. The others were spread out along the length of the convoy.
The Amrap sisters were following along as additional guests instead of guards so they weren’t expected to guard the caravan but I’m pretty sure they could hold their own in a fight if it came down to it.
…
I know that sounds unconvincing coming from me when I quite literally handed their ass to them earlier, but I know that they have gone out of the village to hunt monsters before so they aren’t strangers to a fight, ok?
That’s why… After a few hours on the road…
“Monsters coming from above us!” One of the Trasifs shouted.
Instead of panicking, the five Amrap sisters immediately went into battle mode as they raised their fists to prepare to fight.
While I had been taking care of monsters that were in the forests with my Shadow Guards, I unfortunately could not position anyone above us as that would be too obvious.
Thus, I was now looking at a large wyvern that was diving down towards us at an angle, clearly thinking we were easy prey.
Hmm… I don’t really want the wyvern to get close to us since that might endanger the entire caravan if a fight breaks out here so a ranged attack to take them down should be good.
I turned towards Minnera, “Can you shoot it down before it reaches us? No need to kill it, just aim for the wings to ground it.”
After all… We do want the materials from it~
Minnera nodded and raised her hand, materialising her weapon in the shape of a… Is that an anti-material sniper rifle?!
I watched as she raised the weapon up which drew attention to the fact that the weapon did not even have a scope attached to the top.
There was a pause before she pulled the trigger, causing a beam of light to blast out of the barrel of the rifle which also caused a shockwave to explode out from around her, throwing up a miniature gale that blew around us.
The beam of light pierced through the wyvern’s left wing, the monster letting out an ear piercing shriek before it spiralled down towards the ground.
It tried to regain control but with a torn wing, there was no way that was happening and it eventually crashed into the forest near us.
My girls immediately leapt into action as they charged towards the crash site of the wyvern, their weapons drawn.
The wyvern had already managed to push itself up on its limbs and was already trying to make its way towards us, its jaws opening to let out a roar when it saw us.
[Screened] told me that this was an Aero Wyvern and, as the name implies, the wyvern was capable of manipulating air.
A blast of air came out from its mouth and that would have sent normal people flying away but I quickly redirected the blast with a light shield that materialised in front of my girls.
Some of the trees were torn up from the blow and Odeta leapt in the moment the attack stopped.
The wyvern tried to open its mouth again, only for my Amrap lover to wrap her arm around its snout and forcing it shut.
The monster thrashed around, trying to shake free from Odeta’s grasp but she held strong, even having the time to smirk at the wyvern’s futile attempts.
Five figures then leap past her and I realised it was the Amrap sisters, all of them pouncing on the wyvern without fear.
Two of them went for the wings, jumping on top of them to pin it down to stop it from flailing.
Two went for the legs and while it tried to kick them off, they managed to grab a hold of it and pinned its legs to the ground.
The last of the sisters jumped onto the tail, hugging it tightly and using her weight to push it down.
The wyvern was effectively pinned at that point and my girls descended on it, quickly slaughtering it before it could shake off the Amraps that were holding it down.
As the Aero Wyvern flopped down to the ground, the Amrap sisters approached me looking quite confused.
“Umm… Ast… I mean… Lady Aster?” Regina called out, her hands fiddling in front of her nervously. “Could we ask something?”
I nodded at her, “Sure? Is something wrong?”
“Umm… We’re just wondering… Why did you not participate in the fight? You are strong enough to take down that monster alone if you wanted to, right? But yet you chose to stand behind?”
I chuckled, remembering that Ira and Tsara had almost the exact same sentiments when they first joined the party not too long ago.
“Ehehe~ Well… It is true that I could beat the wyvern alone if I wanted to but… We are a party, you see. Everyone has a role in this party and since I’m the one with the healing and support magic, I primarily play the role of being the support instead of being a combat role. If I also engage the enemies in the front lines, I would not be able to cast my support spells as effectively because of tunnel vision, you see.”
“But… If you were to just beat the monster yourself, you wouldn’t need to worry about the monster hurting anyone else… Right?”
Odeta immediately appeared beside me, “Ha?! And you expect me to just sit at the side and do nothing while Sister Aster does all the work for us?! Absolutely no way!!”
Yeah… See?
I gave them a look and I guess they understood exactly why I chose to stay behind now, all of them even nodding along to that.
Even Tsara and Ira were also nodding beside me like they were sympathising with the Amrap sisters for having that question in the first place.
All I can say is that I have a pretty weird party dynamic…
