’What do you girls see?’ I asked the others.
’There’s a tent and a campfire, Mistress.’
’Err… There’s a weird wooden hut, Sister Aster. Are you also seeing the same thing?’
’Oh? That’s interesting. On my side, there seems to be a two storey building made of stone.’
’Eh? For me… It looks like it’s a small hill with a cave entrance…’
’Huh… I’m looking at a large mansion for me, Boss.’
’I have a suburban house on my side.’
So everyone’s looking at different stuff… Somehow it feels like whatever we’re seeing is tied to us in some way.
Maybe… Something related to our childhood? Because I used to live in an apartment just like this back before my parents abandoned me.
’Is this related to some unresolved problems in our past or something?’ I mused.
’Huh? I don’t have anything like that though?’ Odeta insisted.
I don’t doubt that she really didn’t have any, since I’m sure she would have just solved any problem she had directly before she would allow it to fester.
The other girls also claimed that they don’t know what might their buildings be hinting at and don’t remember any particular history with what they were looking at.
’Well… I guess we’ll just have to go in and see what happens?’ I thought aloud.
The rest also agreed so I started walking towards the apartment complex.
Still… What is going to happen here? Are there going to be more zombies coming out from the apartment that I will have to beat or something? Or else– Ack!
A sudden pain flared through my head and it felt like something had smacked me across the side of my head.
What the hell was that? Girls? Did you… Eh?
I paused when I realised that my connection with my girls had been severed.
I turned to look behind me and I believe that I seemed to have crossed some kind of boundary that cut off our connection.
Moving back, I tried to cross the boundary again, only for my hand to come into contact with an invisible wall that blocked me from proceeding further.
Tsk… So I’m guessing that this is some kind of isolated space that doesn’t allow anything out the moment they enter it… And anything also included thoughts I suppose.
This is annoying… But I trust my girls to be able to handle whatever was on their side so I should be worrying about myself first.
I turned back to look at the apartment complex, wondering what was expected for me to do.
The fact that a barrier was erected meant that this might be some kind of puzzle trial or something where we need to solve puzzles in order to free ourselves. Whoever trapped us must be some sociopath or something.
I started walking towards the apartment, my eyes scanning each of the doors and preparing myself in case something burst out from the doors.
Well… Nothing burst out but the door at the top right corner of the complex swung open and a male and female Mahun stepped out.
I eyed them warily and wondered who they were until the male waved his hand at me.
“Aster! My child! You’ve finally come home! Daddy has been so worried about you! Where have you been?!”
Huh?
“Aster, my dear child! Mother has been worried sick when you disappeared! Hurry and come home!”
Oh… I see now. These two were supposed to be my parents. Sorry, but I honestly completely forgot about their existence. Because now, I only have one Mother, and she definitely does not look like that.
Was this thing supposed to be digging up some supposed traumatic history of ours to screw with us or something? Maybe my other girls are also seeing their parents or something and they’re asking them to stay with them.
I’m not really sure how that would work though, since… Err… Now that I think about it…
Katsuki already cut off ties with her family… Odeta is still chill with hers but she’s already independent… Lisa also wasn’t really a family person until she met me… Delmare practically doesn’t even know her family aside from her sisters which I believe she still keeps in contact with… Emilia would definitely love to see her family again just so that she could kill them herself… Then Minnera is… Well, I guess I don’t know much about her situation so I guess it could go either way.
I tilt my head at my supposed ’parents’, “What are the both of you doing here?”
“We’re here to take you back home, Aster! There’s no need for you to worry anymore. Mommy and Daddy will take good care of you now!”
Funny how they are both using my new name instead of my original name which only just proves that they weren’t real.
Still, I’m curious how this thing works.
“What about my lovers?”
My ’father’ waved his hand dismissively, “Forget about them, Aster! Family is more important! Come back to us! We can be a family again!”
Ok, I can’t do this anymore without cringing really hard.
I raised my hand and shot a [Fire Blast] in their direction, engulfing them in a gout of fire.
“Ahhhh!!! Aster!! What are you doing to your mother!! Stop!!!”
“Aster!! Have you gone crazy?! Stop! Stop!!! Ahhh!! It hurts!!!”
Wow, they can really scream huh? Let me up the intensity of the fire a little, see if they scream even louder~
The fire spread to the rest of the building, the fire spreading like the entire building was soaked in gasoline and turning it into an inferno.
Thinking that this was enough, I stopped the magic and just stood back and enjoyed the sight of the entire building burn.
I watched as the two figures fell off the balcony and onto the ground, still screaming in pain before they crawled up to their feet and started shambling towards me with their hands outstretched.
“Aaaahhhh!! Aster!! Why!! Why would you do this to your own mother?! Why!!!”
For someone that was completely engulfed in flames, you sure can shout pretty loud huh…
She tried to lunge towards me so I lowered myself into a stance before swinging my fist and punching her across the face with all of my strength.
The thing posing as my ’mother’ flew back into the building, crashing straight into it and smashing through the wall.
The one acting as my ’father’ tried to lunge towards me as well and I threw my other fist forward, punching him across the face as well to send him flying back into the building, crashing through another wall.
Not done yet, I buffed myself and leapt towards the burning building, stopping just short of it to smash my hands into the ground and pull it up.
The ground cracked and I pulled up the entire building alongside the part of the ground with the foundation.
Spotting the two burning people a short distance away, I tossed the entire building at them, watching in satisfaction as the entire thing came crashing down on top of them and flattening them into meat paste.
Actually… I think they were meat pastes when I punched them through the wall but whatever, details, details.
I waited to see if anything else would happen but… The building just continued to burn and it doesn’t look like those two would be getting up either.
I tried to leave the clearing again but the barrier was still up so I believe I really do have to wait for all of my girls to finish their own ’trials’ before we can continue.
And just when I thought of that, the ground beneath my feet suddenly disappeared and I found myself falling down.
My wings flared and I flew up before I could actually fall into the hole, watching the burning remains of the building fall inside before it suddenly disappeared like an illusion.
Taking a moment to check if there were any more surprises, I tried to connect with my girls again but it seems like the barrier was still up since I don’t feel any connection with them.
How annoying…
Looking back at the hole, I wondered if my girls also received the same treatment where the ground beneath them also turned into a hole.
Seeing that most of them can’t fly, they might have fallen into said hole…
Guess I have no choice then.
I tucked my wings and dove straight down into the hole, the darkness swallowing me up.
I fell for quite a while before light suddenly appeared in front of me, blinding me for a second and prompting me to flare my wings to try and slow my descent.
Something soft then collided with me, completely stopping my momentum.
When my vision cleared up, I found myself in a cave of sorts.
“Sister Aster!!”
I turned around at the voice and found Odeta running up to me.
Err… Is this the real Odeta or a fake?
