We left the slave store with our new slaves in tow and the slave store was at least kind enough to give our new slaves some simple tunics to cover up instead of letting them walk around almost naked.
I also decided now was the best time to ask Jenna about her money.
“Jenna? Could I ask where did you get so much money from?”
She turned to give me a surprised look, “Eh? Is it really a lot?”
“Yes? Haven’t you needed to spend money on inns so far? I’m sure you haven’t needed to spend even a silver coin just to stay in a room right? You just spent three Gold coins, you know?”
“Umm… I mean… I’ve only been trying to stay at what looked like cheap places so I thought their prices were really low to begin with? Like… Isn’t one small Gold coin equivalent to like… A thousand dollars? Everything is pretty cheap here.”
I grimaced at her.
There was a time I also thought wrong but her idea of the money was even worse than mine…
“You need to multiply that by another thousand, Jenna…” I muttered.
Jenna furrowed her brows and shifted her gaze upwards, probably to calculate what was a thousand multiplied by a thousand.
She got it almost immediately and she looked back at me with wide eyes, “I… I just spent three milli–“
I quickly covered her mouth and looked around. Thankfully, no one seemed to have heard her and both Carrey and Inara were tactful enough not to ask.
I turned back to Jenna and nodded my head slowly, “Yes, you did… So how did you get that much money?”
“I…. I really thought they weren’t worth a lot… I was given several of them for the last few Guild Request I did…”
“Wait… What Guild rank are you even?”
“Erm… I think I’m an E rank Mercenary?”
“You got an E ranked Request that paid you several Gold coins?!”
“Ah… No… Err… I simply joined with another group to do a Request… They then paid me that much for joining them on the Request…”
“Did you participate in some really high rank Guild Request or something?”
“I don’t… I don’t think so? They said it wasn’t much either and that I deserved it for doing such a good job…”
I felt concern well up within me immediately, “What… What did you do for them?”
“Eh? Nothing much… They just asked me to give them a back massage with my feet saying it would help them relieve the muscle aches or something… So I just simply stepped on them… And then they paid me those Gold coins…”
I facepalmed.
Ok, it wasn’t as bad as I thought but that was also pretty bad…
I turned back to look at Inara, Jenna’s new slave.
She also had a shocked look on her face until she noticed me staring at her.
Her response was to simply give me a curt nod to show me that she would make sure Jenna would no longer be taken advantage of like that in the future.
As expected of a former knight I suppose? I’ll leave Jenna in her hands then.
I looked up at the sky, seeing that it was still light out, an idea came to me.
“Hey… If you girls are up for it… How about we go for a quick Guild Request? Just to get familiar with each other?”
Jenna turned to me with an excited look on her face, “Oh! That’s a good idea, Miss Aster! Let’s do that! I think we would be better able to understand each other if we were to fight together!”
That’s exactly why I suggested it, Jenna.
Carrey raised her hand worriedly, “Ummm… Mistress? I… I apologise but… Neither myself nor Inara have any weapons right now…”
“Oh right… Umm… I suppose we should go and equip the both of you first.”
Unexpectedly, Inara shook her head, “There is no need, Miss Aster. If you have any normal sword, I will be able to use it to fight. I can also fight unarmed if need be. I will first prove myself worthy of being Mistress Jenna’s bodyguard first before I accept her sword.”
Hmmm… Is this like a knight thing? Or is it just something specifically for her like a moral code?
Carrey seemed like she was trying hard not to panic so I came to her aid.
“If the both of you are fine with using stock weapons that I have looted from some bandits… You can make use of them for this trip first. Would that be alright?”
Inara bowed, “That would be more than what I deserve, Miss Aster.”
Carrey also quickly bowed her head as well, “I… I am fine with that as well, Mistress! I should be fine with any type of bow!”
Since they said so…
I took out an arming sword and a longbow as well as a quiver of arrows for both of them.
Carrey gasped when the bow and quiver dropped onto her hands, “E… Eh? Mis… Mistress? How?”
“Ah, I have an artefact that allows me to store stuff like a Pack of Folding except I can do it with a thought without needing to pull the things out myself.”
“That… That’s incredible! Is Mistress a really famous Mercenary?”
I waved my hand, “No, no, our party is only C ranked you know? I just got that artefact by chance.”
Well, that’s the excuse I’ve prepared for people who might ask about it anyway… At least it’s better than ’I got it from the gods’ I suppose.
We ended up visiting the Guild again and this time we went for an easier Request that was listed on the E Rank board instead.
I had to do my best to ignore the stares coming from all the Guild members again and though that Guild staff guy gave me an odd look, he kept his questions to himself as he processed the Request we took from the board.
He was probably wondering why I suddenly returned after completing a whole bunch of Requests only to return with another group to take another low rank Request.
It wasn’t really anything big, just a simple Goblin subjugation outside the city, should be done by the time night falls so it was just right for us.
The troublesome part would be finding the Goblins since they would be hiding somewhere in the tall grass outside but that wouldn’t be a problem with Katsuki here~
When we walked past the city gates, Jenna turned to me with a worried look on her face.
“Umm… Miss Aster? Why were the people inside the Guild looking at us like that? Is it because… We went there with slaves?”
“Oh, no, no. There’s no rule against bringing slaves inside the Guild, Jenna. The reason… Well… It’s a little complicated but the gist of it is that I helped everyone in there with a certain problem so they’re just really grateful for it. And just so you know, it’s normal to walk around with slaves here so you don’t need to be so conscious of that.”
“I… I see… Umm… What about other places outside of this Kingdom?”
I turned to look at Katsuki.
“It may not be as common as within the Mahun territories, but it is not illegal either, Miss Jenna. You do not need to worry about having your slave accompany you to Aerialla Academy,” Katsuki answered immediately without needing me to say anything.
As expected of Katsuki~
“Mistress?” Carrey suddenly spoke up. “Forgive me but… May I ask how our party should be positioned?”
Oh yeah, I’m so used to fighting with my own party now that I forgot we should discuss that first.
I clapped my hands together, “Right, I suppose we should organise first. Katsuki here plays the role of the assassin in a fight so she would be flanking and looking for targets of opportunity. Inara, you will be the sole vanguard for this party, would you be ok with that?”
She nodded, “That works for me, Miss Aster.”
I then turned to Carrey, “And Carrey will play the role of our archer of course. I intend for you to remain in that role as well if that’s alright?”
“Absolutely, Mistress. May… Umm… May I know what role you would be occupying?” She asked, a little fearfully.
Hmm… I somehow got the feeling that she was thinking I was the type of slave owner who would sit at the back and just watch my slaves fight without doing anything.
Then again, I suppose part of it is correct since it’s true that my position is at the backlines…
“I normally occupy the support role in a party if that’s what you’re wondering, so I will be handling healing and buffing. Jenna will be with me since she’s the mage of this party as well. Are we all clear with our roles?”
All the girls nodded at me. Even Jenna seemed to be quite enthusiastic about this hunt and she was holding on to her mage staff with a sparkly look in her eyes.
With that set… Lead the way Katsuki! Sniff out those Goblins!
