What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?

Chapter 313 First Partnership With A Super

"You know, I told her that I didn’t want anything, but you know what she did? She actually only bought food for herself. Didn’t even get me a side dish or anything. What kind of friend does that, right? Do you think I should get back at her somehow? I should, shouldn’t I? Maybe our friendship is over and I should just break it off with her and never talk to her again? Would that be appropriate? No, I think that’s too much... But what she did was bad, right?"

I turned to Singa Sister who had been talking almost non stop for the past hour.

"You just wanted someone to talk to while you’re on the job, didn’t you?" I asked.

She scoffed, "Pfft, no? But come on, you have to admit my friend was out of line here, right? We’ve known each other for five years and she didn’t even get anything for me! What kind of friend does that?"

Honestly, I’m not even that phased by her since I’ve had a younger sister that I had to put up with her gossiping as well, so it’s nothing new to me.

I’m more surprised that a professional hero like her was also acting like a gossipy teenager.

I decided to just roll with it and shrugged, "Yeah... Sure... I guess that’s pretty bad."

She perked up when she heard my response, "I know right?! She’s just the worst! I’m telling you, if she does this again, I’ll--"

I tuned her out and concentrated on leaping towards the next building instead, which involved subtly manipulating my gravity instead of fully relying on my enhanced strength to do so.

Right now, ’Hooded Fighter’ has only been revealed to have enhanced strength and durability and lightning enhancement. So using any of my other powers would be too big of a giveaway to who I actually was.

I then stopped when I heard something akin to a muffled explosion coming from somewhere below me.

I turned back, not bothering to explain what I was doing to Singa Sister before peering over the ledge of the rooftop I was standing on.

Down below, there seemed to be two groups of people who were engaged in a fight at the moment.

From here, it looked like it was a gangfight between two rival gangs that had decided to use the alley below as their battlefield.

After people awakened, gangs like these also sprung up in the shadows where they made use of their new powers to do whatever they wanted.

While there were humans amongst them, some of them were other worlders who were obviously not happy with their new life here and chose to be on the other side of the law instead.

Not all other worlders are like that of course, but there’s always a few bad apples amongst the bunch. We are the country that accepted the most number of other worlders so we would also have the most problems pertaining to them.

And one such problem has manifested below where I’m looking at a gang of other worlders clashing with a local gang, which I assumed was most likely a territory dispute or something related.

"Gang fight," Singa Sister muttered from behind me. "It’s been getting more and more frequent nowadays... Some people are saying that we shouldn’t be accepting anymore refugees at this point since they’re more trouble than they’re worth."

I stepped onto the ledge, keeping my mouth shut on the topic.

I’m not a politician anyway and I have an island full of other worlders right now so I don’t think I should be saying anything about it.

Anyway... At least we still punish the troublemakers instead of enabling them. We don’t have an idea here where we are lenient to troublemakers just because they are other worlders. In fact, we hold them to an even higher standard since we were literally giving them shelter.

So if they were to commit crimes like these... They would be in big trouble.

Looking at the fight below, it would be one thing if they were just brawling amongst themselves but... They were also using their powers and parts of the building have already been damaged. They’re a literal nuisance here.

If they wanted to fight so much, they should have just joined up as a Vanguard instead of wasting their powers in petty gang fights like this.

They’re just trying to feel strong and lord themselves over the weak instead of using it to help defend the weak.

That’s why...

I stepped off the ledge and let myself fall towards the ground, ignoring Singa Sister’s cry of alarm.

I landed on the ground softly, careful not to damage the floor which also meant no one in the fight even noticed me descending into the frey.

That worked for me.

I jumped at the nearest pair, which was a Malay guy wrestling with a bearded dwarf. Both of them seemed to have the same power of enhanced strength judging by the cracks on the floor beneath their feet so I didn’t need to be gentle with either of them.

I grabbed them both by the back of their heads, giving them a moment to realise they were being manhandled before I slammed both of them into the ground and knocked them out.

I then dashed over to another pair where it was a centaur that was throwing fireballs at another chinese guy who was using a baseball bat that was constructed with energy and using it to bat the fireballs back at the centaur.

I went ahead to kick the centaur from the side, slamming him against the wall before appearing in front of the Chinese guy and punching him in the abdomen, causing both of them to collapse on the floor in pain.

The next was an Indian that was holding off two elves on his own in a sword fight, the Indian using some kind of curved saber that was electrified with his powers.

I didn’t announce myself and just kicked their legs out from under them and smashed them into the ground before taking away their swords to stab them into the ground beside their heads as a warning not to get up.

I’m not racist, I beat everyone up equally.

There were a few more of them scattered around the alley so I took care of them one by one until all of them were down on the ground.

"Don’t get up. Just quietly let yourselves get taken in by the police," I warned them, already pulling out my phone.

One of the human thugs obviously wasn’t satisfied with this and tried to get up.

"Fuck you! Who you think you are?! Do you even know who we are?! You think you some kind of hero who can just jump in and give orders to us?! I’ll fucking bea... Beat... Beat... You..."

I noticed a shadow on the ground and turned to see Singa Sister hovering in the air above with her arms crossed. Bluish energy sparks were arching off her body as she stared menacingly at the people in the alley.

All the thugs quickly quietened down and some recoiled at the sight of her.

I guess even for them, the sight of a professional superhero was something that would send them cowering.

After all... She’s way stronger than any of them and could beat them up just as easily as I did.

Honestly... She actually looks pretty cool up there.

I started dialing the number to call the police but the sound of sirens interrupted me.

"I already called them, don’t worry about it," She explained, her voice holding none of that casual bearing she had earlier with me.

Guess she called for the police to come after I jumped down the ledge. Their response time was pretty quick though, so either they were already nearby or they prioritised her because she was a superheroine.

Welp, that means that was my cue to get out of here though.

I crouched down low and jumped up into the air, reaching the height of the roof in a single leap and grabbing onto the ledge to pull myself up.

I peered down over the edge to see a group of police officers, some of them being other worlders, flood into the alleyway.

Singa Sister then gave them the quick rundown of what happened there and they began making arrests.

None of the thugs tried to fight back since Singa Sister remained where she was to watch over them and she only left after all of them were cuffed and being escorted out of the alley.

She floated up to the roof and her demeanour changed back to the casualness she had earlier.

"So, anyway. Do you think I should tell her what I think? I think that might be too much but that’s just me."

It took me a moment to realise she was just continuing the conversation we had earlier.

I gestured at the alley, "You’re not going to comment anything about that?"

She tilted her head, "What is there to comment about? You just beat them up and then we catch them, right? That’s all? What else is there to be said?"

...

I guess she does this for a living so there’s nothing odd about this and she’s already used to it.

Will this temporary partnership be ok?
